On the third night of the Kyoto trip, we visited the stylish "Ristrante STRADA" on Oike Street with its eye-catching stone exterior. The chef, Tomoya Otsuka, who also serves as a sommelier, showcased his skills in the kitchen. Interestingly, Chef Otsuka has a connection with my brother, so I was determined to visit this place. When we arrived at 7:00 pm for our reservation, the spacious restaurant was already 80% full with over 20 guests, showing its popularity. Opting for the affordable 7,000 yen Cena course, we started with a Prosecco Millesimato Dry and appetizers like aged prosciutto, mozzarella, and fruit tomato caprese. The antipasto included dishes like smoked Atlantic salmon, pork rillettes crostini, and a variety of seafood. For the main course, we enjoyed homemade sausage spaghetti, herb-crusted fish, and roasted duck meat. The meal concluded with desserts like tiramisu, chocolate torte, and gelato. After the meal, I had a pleasant chat with Chef Otsuka and he expressed surprise at the connection with my brother. He promised to do even better next time, so I am looking forward to visiting again soon.

When I visited for dinner, I was able to choose the main menu, but the part-time staff made a mistake and brought me the wrong dish. They didn't realize until the end... It's okay for part-time staff to serve, but I wish experienced staff would take the menu orders.

Known as a pioneer of Kyoto Italian cuisine, the first owner, Kenichi Fukumura, retired, and the current owner chef, who has been working at the restaurant for the past 4 years, took over the reins. The restaurant has an elegant and calm atmosphere typical of a traditional Italian restaurant. For lunch, they offer three course options priced at 1600 yen, 2900 yen, and 4000 yen. I tried the 1600 yen lunch course, which included a vegetable salad, homemade bread, a choice of pasta (Carbonara), a small dessert, and a drink. It was a relaxing lunchtime experience with a leisurely flow of time.

In the second year of Reiwa, the best place to start with Italian cuisine is definitely this restaurant. Despite the recent trend in Italian cuisine, this place in Kyoto offers a classic Italian experience that is unparalleled. We visited for a New Year's party with coworkers this time. We enjoyed the taste that lacked the typical Japanese twist, but rather reflected authentic Italian flavors. Today's lunch was at Ristorante Strada. I had chilled cream soup with onions, homemade focaccia with orange peel, and white wine. The main dish was shrimp and clam in tomato sauce, generously portioned with lots of clams and even four shrimp! The noodles were thick and chewy, possibly homemade, and very delicious. For dessert, there was fruit white wine jelly with mango gelato. I first came here about 10 years ago, and the service and ambiance are still as elegant and pleasant as ever.
