I heard that Kyoto was quiet, so I decided to visit on a whim. I stayed near To-ji Temple as there was a flea market being held on the 20th. When I arrived at the breakfast venue on the first floor at 6:30, about half of the seats were already taken. It seemed that there was a special early breakfast menu available for those in a hurry from 6:00. I was expecting a typical breakfast you would find at a budget business hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of dishes offered. The breakfast mainly consisted of curry rice and yakisoba, which was quite satisfying. The sausages served as a side dish may have been the only proper dish, along with various side dishes like simmered pumpkin. There were also dishes like hot tofu. I recommend having white rice with raw egg or fermented soybeans. The curry seemed to be homemade by the hotel staff, which added a nice touch of simplicity. The yakisoba had a wild flavor with black pepper and pickled ginger. Overall, I appreciated the homely feel of the dishes. Although it didn't have the traditional Kyoto touch, it was still enjoyable.

I had reserved a semi-double room in the main building for less than 6,000 yen using a discount coupon, but they upgraded me to the new building because there was availability. It's about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station and has a large communal bath. The top floor is an observatory floor where you can see Toji Temple. At night, the five-story pagoda is lit up and looks fantastical. Breakfast is buffet style with yakisoba, curry (a bit watery), and Kyoto-style hot tofu. The rice was too soft, but considering the price, I was satisfied. As I was leaving, the lady at the dining hall gave me a candy, which made me happy for some reason.

This hotel offers free breakfast for guests staying here. There are no tickets required, you can just go and eat. The restaurant on the first floor is open from 6:30 am to 9:30 am, but it opens at 6 am for early risers. Not all dishes are available at that time. The restaurant is not just a small corner in the lobby, it is a proper restaurant. The background piano music creates an elegant atmosphere. For a free breakfast, it is quite luxurious. They offer yudofu, about 3 types of bread, yakisoba, sausages, simmered burdock, simmered daikon radish, simmered hijiki seaweed, daikon namasu, simmered koya tofu, spicy konjac, yogurt, etc. The porridge is a nice touch. I love porridge! The spicy konjac is really spicy and delicious. The specialty here is the "Auntie's Curry" and the yakisoba. The yakisoba noodles are chewy and tasty. There is a soft drink machine for beverages. They also have a coffee machine. Milk and oolong tea are served in pitchers. There is also warm barley tea available. Mostly male customers, with two women arriving later. The atmosphere in this restaurant is nice. The staff are always welcoming and polite. A suggestion for improvement would be to not have all the dishes placed on trays at the beginning. It can be confusing to choose plates and cutlery when you don't know what food is available. I picked up a curry spoon first because I heard the announcement in the elevator, but ended up not getting curry. I returned the unused curry spoon along with my used dishes, which creates unnecessary washing for the kitchen staff. To avoid this, I think the curry spoons should be placed next to the curry. I chose this hotel as part of a JR Tokai Tours package with Shinkansen and hotel included. It's a good option for solo travelers. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the station, around 10 minutes on foot. Kyoto Station is large, so you may pass by other places on your way. If you arrive at the far end of the station, it might be closer.

The price is for a package tour. I went to Kyoto to search for a house for my move. Had breakfast at Kyoto Plaza Hotel's breakfast buffet. By the way, the room was a semi-double room and quite small. The elevator had a sign saying there was curry and yakisoba at the breakfast buffet. I had scrambled eggs, which were more homemade style compared to other hotels. My husband noticed that there was no usual ham or bacon. I've realized that breakfast buffets at top and mid-range hotels are similar, while lower-tier hotels have more unique offerings. Personally, I prefer breakfast buffets with a mix of Japanese and Western dishes.

I had breakfast on the third day of my 2-night, 3-day solo trip to Kyoto, enjoying the "A Gourmet Journey in Kyoto" at Kyoto Plaza Hotel. I arrived at the hotel's main building cafe lounge around 7:30 am, where breakfast is exclusively served for guests. I sat at a table for two and had the "Auntie's Homemade Curry" which was available the previous day as well. The curry, made by Auntie, had a homemade look but was rich in spices and tasted authentic. It was so delicious that I couldn't resist having seconds. Even after a night of eating and drinking, it was still enjoyable. Highly recommended for those with a big appetite.

Located in Kuranosuke-cho, Nishikujo, Minami-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Plaza Hotel is a great place to stay for a solo traveler on a 2-night, 3-day food and drink adventure in Kyoto. On the second day, I enjoyed breakfast at the hotel's cafe lounge on the first floor. The breakfast is included in the room rate, which starts from around 5,000 yen. The buffet-style breakfast offers a variety of Japanese and Western dishes. The "oba-chan's homemade curry" and "yakisoba" are recommended, although the curry was already sold out when I arrived. The yakisoba is cooked on a hot plate, keeping it warm and delicious. It's a great option for those who enjoy eating a lot.

Thanks to a fortunate connection, this was my second stay at this place. I mistakenly arrived at 6:00 instead of 6:30 for breakfast, but they kindly allowed me in early and offered me some dishes that were already prepared. I enjoyed various side dishes like natto and raw eggs, but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have curry. Thank you for the meal!

In March 2016, I stayed in Kyoto using JR Tokai Tours for the first time, even though I have visited Kyoto many times before. I usually stay in Osaka. The hotel I stayed at offered a complimentary breakfast for guests, even though I had booked a "no breakfast" plan. Luckily, I made it to breakfast time and headed to the restaurant a bit before 7 am. It was still empty. I rushed there because I saw a note in the elevator saying that there were limited quantities of freshly baked bread. I couldn't resist getting the egg sandwich, so I ended up with a mix of Japanese dishes like shishamo, taro stew, and hijiki, along with scrambled eggs, ham, and potato salad. I also grabbed yakisoba, milk, orange juice, and the sandwiches I wanted the most - egg and hamburger. I made sure to finish everything, even though it was a lot. The egg sandwich was delicious, but the hamburger sandwich was too heavy. As I was eating, the restaurant quickly filled up. I was so full. Thank you for the meal.

First, the room. It's actually bigger than I thought, but somehow it feels cramped. The unit bath is small. And the walls seem thin, as I can hear noises from the hallway and outside quite clearly. Breakfast buffet is included for free, but the only thing that stood out was the bread rolls. Everything else was just okay. They offer a daily special dish, but other than that, the menu seems to be the same every day, so guests staying multiple nights might get tired of it. The dining area is small considering the number of rooms, and the variety of dishes is limited. There's nothing really special to refresh your palate, so it's kind of mediocre. Overall, it's a bit underwhelming.

I went on a one-night trip to Kyoto with Toho Tours. I had too much ramen for breakfast, so I decided to balance it out with some side dishes at this buffet. However, the variety of side dishes was quite limited. I ended up eating a few hot dogs that looked tasty, and then had a little bit of orange juice with low juice content. I wished they had yogurt or fruits. Vegetables are expensive, after all. I wonder if anyone can just walk in and eat at this buffet... Oh well, that's life.

A business hotel located south of JR Kyoto Station. It is situated between Nishinotoin Street and the Kintetsu Kyoto Line, so during the day, you can hear the sound of cars and trains from the rooms, but it becomes less noticeable at night. Each room has a bathroom, and there is also a large communal bath. Following the recent trend of business hotels, guests are provided with a complimentary breakfast that includes both Japanese and Western options such as yakisoba, salad, simmered dish, bread, sausage, eggs (boiled and raw), rice, miso soup, and drinks. It is an all-you-can-eat style, so you can eat as much as you want, but since I was traveling, I kept it simple (although I ended up eating quite a bit). The breakfast area is not too crowded, but it can get busy.

The front staff's service was very good. However, it seemed like soundproofing was not a priority. At night, various noises could be heard from different places, like the crinkling of snack or food packaging, murmurs from neighboring rooms (even the content was clear), and the sounds of multiple rooms' baths as if they were in your own room. Also, some parts of the room did not have carpeting, so the sound of heels from the floor above could be heard. Maybe it's because of the location or the diverse international guests. Breakfast was included in the room rate and consisted of shredded cabbage, sausages, yakisoba, macaroni salad, yudofu, simmered beans, stir-fried dish, bread, rice, miso soup, seasoned seaweed, but the options seemed limited with mostly items that seemed to contain artificial seasonings. A person next to me, who seemed Korean, mentioned that they would prefer sundubu over yakisoba. The sign mentioned contracted specified farms for rice and vegetables, but the origin was not specified. It made me wonder why they would hide the prefecture names if the farms are specified and have a fixed location.
