I visited Kyoto and went to Hako Hige. This will be the Kyoto edition for a while. It is located on the way from Kiyomizu-dera to Sannenzaka and Ninnen-zaka. I originally visited for the Mont Blanc, but ended up being drawn to the roasted chestnut soft serve. Roasted Chestnut Soft Serve - 500 yen. If you want to experience the pure taste of chestnuts, you may feel a bit strange at first, but personally, I loved it. The flavor reminds me of Häagen-Dazs' seasonal "Rich Marron." It has a strong rum flavor and a smooth texture. It is rich with a high milk fat content. As you eat, you'll find two roasted chestnuts inside the cone. It's a limited edition item only available at the main store. If there was one nearby, I would want to eat it once a week. Thank you for the meal.

After sightseeing at the Kyoto National Museum from Kyoto Station, I took a taxi to the entrance of Kiyomizu-dera Temple because it started raining. It felt refreshing to see everything on foot, as it had been since my elementary school field trip. The atmosphere without foreign tourists was a rare sight, but during the spring break, there were many young people in rental kimono, creating a lively atmosphere. As it was drizzling, I quickly climbed the approach to the temple, prayed at Kiyomizu-dera, and when I looked around from the stage, I was captivated by the beautiful scenery. There was a long line at the water source at Kiyomizu Temple, so I skipped it and took a break halfway down the approach. When I went to the order counter, they had chestnut soft serve, but since I was in Kyoto, I opted for matcha. The matcha soft serve cost exactly 500 yen, which is the typical tourist price in Kyoto. However, when I took a bite of the matcha soft serve, I felt a bit strange. It didn't have the smooth texture I expected, but rather a crunchy texture. Although it had hints of the bitterness of matcha, the texture was not what I had in mind for matcha soft serve. Despite feeling a bit confused by this new sensation, I finished it. It may have been a matcha soft serve that didn't suit my taste. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 13:00 on a weekday. At that time, eating in was only available on weekends, so I couldn't get the Mont Blanc. - Roasted Chestnut Soft Serve Ice Cream 500 yen The soft serve ice cream had a distinct chestnut flavor. It's a limited edition item only available at the Shimizu main store. There were no extra chestnut bits mixed into the cream, and there were delicious chestnuts placed at the bottom center. I think there were about two of them.

When I stopped by Kiyomizu Temple, I happened to come across a chestnut Mont Blanc shop and decided to go in. The service was lackluster, with no one to greet me when I entered and being made to wait outside even though there were only two customers inside. Once seated, I was left unattended without any guidance. Just as I was considering leaving, a young man who seemed like a craftsman appeared. He started making the Mont Blanc in a ritualistic manner reminiscent of tea ceremony, creating a tense atmosphere with no music and no room for conversation. The Mont Blanc that came out was delicious, but not outstanding. I honestly felt that I would have enjoyed it more if it had been a more fun experience. I have no intention of revisiting this place.

"HISAYA CAFE: The famous roasted chestnut shop 'Hisaya' has opened inside the main store. Located in Cafe Shimizuzaka, this high-end Mont Blanc specialty shop uses chestnuts grown in their own farm in Tanba. They only have a 6-seat counter where the staff makes the Mont Blanc right in front of you. Inside, there is green tea ice cream, and on the outside, there is roasted chestnut powder. #PremiumMontBlanc made with Tanba chestnuts"

After the state of emergency was lifted, my family of four went on a trip to Kyoto. We wanted to revisit the place where we had delicious Mont Blanc last time and let our son try it. We arrived at 10:00, ordered the PREMIUM MONT BLANC SET with hojicha ice cream, and it arrived at 10:35. The chestnut flavor was delicious as always. While the matcha version had a bitterness that added contrast, this time the hojicha version had a toasty flavor as its accent. Both were delicious, but personally, I recommend the matcha one for its contrast of chestnut sweetness with bitterness. The thin, needle-like cookies (gataifu) were a standout side. Overall, the balance of richness and lingering taste was excellent. It was sweet and moist yet not overly heavy.

I was strongly drawn to the roasted chestnut soft serve after lunch. After taking a bite, I thought, "Wow, this tastes sophisticated, like rum raisin." But where are the chestnuts? Towards the end, I could see crushed chestnuts, but I couldn't enjoy it without the cream! In the end, I felt like I only ate the chestnuts, craving for sweetness. The black cone was unique and stylish. I wanted some tea, but it was tough to have it on the bench. The café in the back seemed to be for people who only wanted to eat Mont Blanc.

It was a long time since I went on a museum date with my wife in Kyoto. We were drawn to Kiyomizu but we were already full, so this time we ordered soft serve. [Summary] Roasted Chestnut Soft Serve 500 yen A soft serve about 120mm tall. The actual soft serve part is 60mm, the rest is cone. The overwhelming presence of chestnut, with milk hidden in the background. Not just roasted chestnut, it's more like marron glace, reminiscent of Mont Blanc cream. The cone has a charcoal flavor and is filled with roasted chestnuts, delicious until the very end. The chestnut pieces are tender and sticky sweet. For 500 yen, it's quite cheap.

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto, and I stopped by this charming little shop on my way back from Kiyomizu Temple. The atmosphere was very elegant and calming, a complete change from the outside world. I ordered a hojicha tea, while my companion got a matcha Mont Blanc. Watching the Mont Blanc being made right in front of us was fascinating. The skilled hands of the staff made it an enjoyable experience. The freshly made dessert was delicious, with the ice cream being perfectly soft. I would definitely recommend this shop to friends and others.

I visited Kyoto's Sakyo Ward for a business trip and took the opportunity to do some sightseeing. Before work, I visited Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where I noticed that the stage railing had been replaced. On my way back, I saw many stores selling Mont Blanc desserts similar to Saori's. Among them, I found this baked chestnut soft serve ice cream. The spiral shape was different from regular soft serve ice creams. When I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised by the rum flavor! The rich aroma, smooth cream, and perfect sweetness made this soft serve ice cream stand out. It was two levels above other soft serve ice creams in terms of deliciousness. I thought the chestnut flavor was missing, but then I found whole baked chestnuts inside the cone. It was delicious!

Wife and I went on a year-end date in Kyoto. We found a delicious-looking Mont Blanc shop while talking about how Saori-san probably couldn't make it at this time. 10:20 Entered, seated, and ordered. 10:25 Dessert preparation began. 10:35 Dessert arrived. The stylish and calm interior was enjoyable, and we could see the manufacturing process. [Summary] PREMIUM MONT BLANC SET for 1680 yen. A chestnut igloo with a diameter of about 60mm and a height of 60mm. Layers of chestnut paste, kataifi (fine noodle-like Turkish dish), matcha sauce, matcha ice cream, whipped cream, chestnut paste, and grated roasted chestnut powder from the bottom up. The paste is so abundant that it hides vertically and horizontally. The kataifi has a crispy texture and a buttery flavor, playing a supporting role. The paste has a fluffy and smooth texture. It is composed only of the sweetness of chestnuts, like chestnut paste. The flavor of the roasted chestnut and grated chestnut is simple and natural. The matcha sauce and ice cream have a mild sweetness and flavor, while the whipped cream has a milky taste and mild sweetness that doesn't interfere with the main flavor. From the first bite, the rich chestnut flavor overflows, and it is truly delicious.

Located in Kiyomizu-zaka in Kyoto, "HISAYA CAFE" is a specialty store for high-end Mont Blanc cakes made with Tamba chestnuts grown in their own farm. This shop was opened on September 2, 2019, within the main store of Hisaya, a nationwide chain known for its organic roasted chestnut stands. With only 6 counter seats, the staff prepare the Mont Blanc right in front of you in a style called "freshly squeezed Mont Blanc." Kyoto is known for its Mont Blanc cakes, with popular shops like "KYOTO KEIZO" and "Saori" drawing long lines, alongside traditional stores like "Marron Glace." Personally, I love Mont Blanc cakes the most, so exploring Kyoto's sweets scene is always enjoyable. I made a reservation through the shop's Instagram reservation form 10 days in advance before visiting. We chose to visit on a Saturday at 2 PM, and there was another group of 4 people who had also reserved the same time slot. The menu is simple, offering only the "Tamba Chestnut Premium Mont Blanc" and a set with a drink included. We opted for the set with a drink for 1680 yen (tax included), ordering coffee. You can choose between matcha or hojicha ice cream inside the Mont Blanc, and we chose matcha this time. Watching the process with explanations as they make the cake is quite enjoyable, making the waiting time until completion very pleasant. They start by squeezing a light chestnut cream, using fine Kataifi noodles commonly found in Turkish cuisine as the base. Then, they layer matcha sauce, matcha ice cream, whipped cream, and chestnut cream, shaping it and finishing with sliced roasted chestnuts and chestnut powder. The size is slightly larger than usual. The chestnut cream is smooth without any dryness or roughness, offering a rich chestnut flavor that is truly delicious. The crispy Kataifi noodles intertwined with the cream are a perfect match. The matcha ice cream inside is quite intense, but the bitterness and aroma blend nicely with the chestnut, creating a wonderful balance. The thick whipped cream adds to the satisfaction after the meal. My companion ordered hojicha, and I had a taste of it. The strong roasted flavor of hojicha was impressive, slightly diluting the chestnut aroma. However, the ice cream itself was exquisite. While I personally prefer matcha in the Mont Blanc, this hojicha ice cream would be an instant buy if sold separately. This Mont Blanc has become my favorite among the freshly squeezed Mont Blanc cakes I've had recently. I would love to visit this shop again during a trip to Kiyomizu Temple. Thank you for the delicious meal!

During a stroll to see the autumn leaves, I came across a chestnut specialty store selling delicious roasted chestnuts. I wanted something refreshing, so I decided to try their chestnut ice cream. It was a bit pricey at 500 yen, but I ordered it anyway. The ice cream came in a cute charcoal cone. The first bite revealed a strong rum flavor, more than the taste of chestnuts. It might be too sophisticated for children. However, as I continued eating, the chestnut flavor started to come through. The best part was finding a roasted chestnut hidden at the bottom of the soft serve. It was a delightful surprise. They also had chairs for a relaxing break during your stroll. Thank you for the delicious treat! ♡

I want to eat Mont Blanc~. There is a shop along the approach to Kiyomizu-dera. I had a Mont Blanc with a consumption time of 10 minutes before. There is another Mont Blanc in Kyoto that I am interested in, but I like walking from Kiyomizu-dera to Sannenzaka, Ninen-zaka, Kodai-ji Temple, and Yasaka Shrine, so I decided to walk on a clear autumn day. Just to be safe, I called to confirm that there was no wait. I was told that there was no wait at the moment, so I headed towards Kawaramachi. Luckily, there was no one waiting, so maybe they were still preparing the Mont Blanc. I waited outside for a bit and was then escorted inside when it was ready. They have a waiting app on weekends. There are 5 counter seats. The menu includes: - Premium Mont Blanc with Tanba chestnut for 1380 yen (comes with a choice of matcha or hojicha ice cream) - Set with Premium Mont Blanc with Tanba chestnut and a drink for 1680 yen (choice of coffee, black tea, green tea, or hojicha) In other words, the menu consists only of Mont Blanc. I ordered the ice cream tea set with matcha ice cream. It was fun to watch the Mont Blanc being made right in front of me. The Mont Blanc was served on a plate with a crispy noodle-like topping, matcha ice cream, whipped cream, and sprinkled with chestnut powder. It was delicious, although I felt there was a bit too much whipped cream for my taste. I walked from Kawaramachi to Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, Ninen-zaka, and finally to Yasaka Shrine.

There were few tourists due to COVID-19, so when I arrived at the specialty chestnut shop Saori at 9:50, the numbered tickets were already gone. Feeling disappointed, I headed towards Kiyomizu Temple and stumbled upon this shop. Unable to resist the temptation, I went in. And it was delicious!!! The flavor of roasted chestnuts was amazing. It was a bit pricey (I was surprised by the prices outside Saori), but it was truly delicious. A great choice! It was fun to watch them make it right in front of me. You can choose between matcha or roasted green tea ice cream inside, and I chose roasted green tea.

I was interested in a Mont Blanc shop that seems to require reservations only on weekends and holidays. It is located on the approach to Kiyomizu Temple and has been featured in the media many times, becoming a popular shop with daily sold-out items. They offer a premium Mont Blanc with Tamba chestnuts, where you can choose between matcha or hojicha ice cream. I chose matcha and my friend chose hojicha. On top of the ice cream, there is whipped cream and Tamba chestnuts. The harmony of Tamba chestnuts and matcha ice cream is exquisite, and the whipped cream adds to the deliciousness. The set includes coffee or tea for 1680 yen. I enjoyed Hisaya's Mont Blanc so much that I want to eat it again.

While walking from Kiyomizu-dera, I came across this place and decided to stop by. The roasted chestnut soft serve ice cream was delicious. It had a taste similar to Mont Blanc and was very enjoyable. As I ate, chunks of chestnut came out, which was a pleasant surprise. It was a very satisfying soft serve ice cream.

I visited the stylish roasted chestnut stand "Hisaya" located halfway up the approach to Kiyomizu-dera, which also has a café called "Hisayaka Café". This shop is famous for its roasted chestnuts that are free of additives and colorings. The interior of the café has only 6 counter seats, but it is not uncomfortable at all. The counter is designed like a high-class Japanese restaurant, where you can enjoy watching the cooking process live. The dishes, knives, and forks are all carefully selected to match the atmosphere, giving a refined feel. I tried the "Premium Mont Blanc made with Tamba chestnuts" and chose green tea as my drink, which cost 1,680 yen (tax included). The Mont Blanc had a delicate and smooth chestnut paste with a subtle aroma, a sophisticated sweetness, and a creamy texture that blended perfectly with the hidden ice cream flavor. The base at the bottom also had a unique texture that I couldn't quite identify. Despite the rich ingredients, the dessert didn't feel heavy at all. The green tea was served in a beautiful glass, with a stunning clarity in its color. I was impressed by the attention to detail in the food, tableware, decor, and overall atmosphere. I highly recommend "Hisayaka Café"!

A cafe located on a slope on the way to Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto. They make Mont Blanc from scratch right in front of you! This cafe is known for its live cooking Mont Blanc. Inside, there is ice cream and when I went, I could choose from three flavors. There are rumors that it has become a "reservation-only" place now, so be sure to check before you go! It's really delicious and perfect for a date!

The trendy style of Mont Blanc being squeezed in front of you. However, the chestnut flavor is not quite there. The matcha cream inside is certainly Kyoto-like, but it clashes with the chestnut. Unfortunately, it doesn't harmonize as well as it looks. The seating is limited, and the prices are high.
