This is a locally famous meat and fried food shop. On this day, I ordered a standard croquette (70 yen), a kimchi croquette (90 yen), and a tulip (90 yen). They fry the food after you order (reservations are also accepted). Some items on the menu may seem mysterious, but they have fresh fried foods displayed in the showcase with descriptions, so it's good to check there. The tulip is small but has a nice pepper and garlic flavor. The croquette has a firm coating that maintains its shape even when bitten into. It's not very fluffy, but you can taste the sweetness of the potato filling. The kimchi croquette has a mild spiciness and a solid kimchi flavor. It's a unique dish. Additionally, when you order fried food, they provide a small amount of shredded cabbage for free. They also offer more substantial salads, side dishes, and rice, making it possible to use the shop like a bento store.

■Visit Date: June 13, 2020■Items Received: Beef Croquette, Croquette, Kimchi Croquette■MEMOI visited on June 13, 2020, a butcher shop near Shichijo Omiya intersection. They sell meat and side dishes like croquettes. You can buy the croquettes and other side dishes to fry at home or get them fried on the spot. This time, I bought two each of Beef Croquette, Croquette, and Kimchi Croquette. On Saturdays, each croquette is 20 yen off, which is a great deal. The freshly fried homemade croquettes from the butcher shop were delicious. We have been enjoying leisurely strolls around town lately, savoring the small changes and the atmosphere of the city in our daily lives.■Bloghttps://ay-style.net/?p=50427

I went to a butcher shop near Toji in Minami Ward, Kyoto City today. Tatehara is located around the corner of Hachijo Omiya. I became interested in this shop after receiving Tatehara's meat as a gift when I had a barbecue with friends before. They also offer takeout for fried foods like croquettes. There were rows of meat at the back of the shop, and croquette and fry batter were lined up near the entrance. They had beef cutlets, horse mackerel fry, and skewered cutlets. When I chose what I wanted, the staff cooked it for me at the frying station in front of the shop. I was able to take away freshly fried items. Although I didn't order it specifically, shredded cabbage was included as a side, which seemed to be a complimentary item. I plated them and decided to eat them as a side dish for dinner. The croquette was made in a traditional way and had a crispy outer layer. I enjoyed it with sauce. The handmade beef croquette from the butcher shop was delicious. I could taste the flavor of the beef. The mozzarella cheese fry, a popular choice among young people, was a skewered fried cheese with a gooey texture. This was really good! I might have wanted to have another one. The total cost for these three items was less than 300 yen, which is quite affordable for dinner side dishes. It's great to be able to get side dishes at this price range!

On February 21st, 2020, there were fewer people at Kobo-san market, with fewer stalls and empty spaces. However, there were still individual travelers, mainly inbound tourists. I visited "Aji no Tatehara" from the north gate and found it to be not crowded. There was only a group of visitors from Germany. I bought croquettes, sausages, and pork cutlets for snacks and dinner. It was my first time visiting on the 21st, and I was happy to discover that there was a special discount of 20 yen off each item on the 21st of every month. It was a nice little treat to get my dinner at a slightly discounted price. Thank you for the meal.

I had some business to attend to at Kyoto Station and stopped by on my way back. I bought 5 croquettes. There was a customer in front of me who was buying a lot, so I had to wait a bit. Each croquette was 60 yen, so I had 300 yen ready in my hand (^-^♪ When it was my turn!! Wait, it's actually 324 yen (@_@) Oh, I forgot about the consumption tax. I had to pay with small change from my wallet. Luckily, there was no one behind me (^-^;). Please be aware that the price does not include tax. That was me reminding myself to pay attention to that.

I went to Kyoto Station to welcome the Emperor and Empress. Their gentle smiles, symbols of our country, were so comforting. Afterwards, I decided to walk to Toji Temple and stumbled upon a kind shopkeeper who fried some delicious croquettes for me. They were the best croquettes I've ever had! On my way back, I passed by again and saw a long line forming!

I often see on TV shows "○○ shopping street" where delicatessen shops are introduced. In the area around To-ji Temple where I live, there is only a supermarket with a delicatessen section. About a 15-minute bike ride away, there is "Aji no Tatehara" which offers a wide variety of fried foods, salads, and more. It would be nice if there were other shops nearby. Originally a butcher shop (which it still is), they have shifted completely to fried foods. In addition to fried foods, they also offer salads, side dishes, seasonings, and more. They fry the food after you place your order. I often see tourists heading towards Kyoto Station from the east gate of To-ji Temple on Omiya Street, munching on croquettes. On this day, I bought croquettes and other items as side dishes for curry at home. Thank you for the meal.

My partner went to the meat shop to buy some fried food. Today, we had beef croquettes as a snack, usually priced at 80 yen each, but on this day they were 60 yen each, lucky! When you order, they fry them fresh for you. The batter is a bit crispy, and the filling is sweet. They also serve shredded cabbage with the fried food, which is nice. In the front is the fried food and side dish section, and in the back is the meat section. The potato salad in the fried food section is simple and delicious, and the miso-marinated pork in the meat section, while thin, is tasty. I always buy croquettes, potato salad, and miso-marinated pork when I go there.

I asked them to prepare fried food for lunch over the phone. In addition to the fried food, they also provided rice, pumpkin stew, salami salad, and shredded cabbage as a service. The Sunday special was cheese-wrapped pork rolls.

I like the traditional flavor, but the batter was disappointingly too hard instead of crispy.

Recently, the number of butcher shops has been decreasing. They used to sell fried foods and side dishes in front of the store. I heard that their croquettes are famous, so I went to try them. In front of the shop, students and tourists were eating croquettes. I bought croquettes and beef cutlets to take home. They included shredded cabbage as a bonus. I was happy about that. The taste and meat quality were fine, but the coating was hard. Unfortunately. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a restaurant facing Hachijo Street after seeing the Buddha statues at Toji Temple and tried their fried items. I ordered croquettes for 60 yen, beef croquettes for 80 yen, and curry fries for 100 yen. The curry fries had curry inside like a curry bread. I waited for about 10 minutes. The smell of oil reminded me of my childhood at the supermarket, which made the owner laugh. I took the food to go and ate it. The skin of the fried items was crispy. The potatoes were a bit mushy, and the taste was as expected. They also included shredded cabbage in a plastic bag. I walked back down the alley to the east from the store, passing by many guesthouses. I found a famous facility among them. I was surprised to learn that this place is called Toji Temple. Is it a legend?

Near the bus stop of Omiya Hachijo City Bus, there is a shop that sells both fresh meat and fried foods. There are flyers at the visible entrance, and the lady efficiently takes orders. In the showcase, there are plenty of ingredients coated with breadcrumbs for frying. Meat is also sold in the back. I ordered a small pork cutlet, squid tempura, and croquette. Even though there were about three people ahead of me, the food was ready within a few minutes. When you buy fried food at this shop, they give you shredded cabbage as a service. The coating is crispy and firm, but the oiliness may be a bit of an issue. The ingredients may not be of the best quality, especially the squid which had a slight fishy smell and was tough. The croquette, which doesn't rely heavily on the ingredients, was tasty. So, if you're looking for fried food where the quality of the ingredients isn't crucial, I recommend this place. The shop's hours are listed as 8:00 to 20:00, but the fried food is available from 10:00 to 19:00.

On January 21, 2017, on the way back from Toji Temple, there was a long line at the croquette shop, so I decided to wait. It was the day of Koboichi, so croquettes, beef croquettes, beef cutlets, and pork cutlets were all 20 yen off. No wonder there was a line, right? (laughs) They took orders from 5-6 people, and started frying in a huge amount of oil. I ordered a beef croquette for 60 yen (originally 80 yen), and 6 pieces of pork loin cutlet for 380 yen, and 6 pieces of oyster fry for 380 yen. You can get croquettes right away, but for other items, they fry them after you order. While waiting, more customers kept coming. One lady took orders and handled the payment all by herself, while the other lady seemed to be in charge of the meat section, but there were few customers there (laughs). Finally, it was my turn to pay, and it came to 1036 yen. We had it for dinner. The beef croquette was packed with meat! My second daughter didn't like it because it was dry, but I enjoyed it. It would have been even more delicious if it was freshly fried. Next time, I think I'll eat it right there. The oyster fry was shared between my husband and eldest son, and they said it was delicious. The pork cutlets were also tasty, and most importantly, they were cheap! Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant at 9 am on Saturday, and it was empty probably due to the rainy morning. I ordered croquettes and ham cutlets just to try a little. I sat on one of the chairs inside the restaurant and waited for about 10 minutes. When it was ready, I paid for my order. It was Saturday's service day, so all items were 20 yen off. The croquette had a crispy coating, which was unexpected as I prefer a softer texture. The ham cutlet also had a crispy coating, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, I would recommend it to those who like crispy coatings, considering the price.

Date and time: Around 11:15 AM on April 25, 2015 (Saturday) Weather: Sunny/Warm ■■■ Order ■■■ Croquette ¥43 (usually ¥64) - A simple potato croquette with a light taste that makes you want sauce. Beef Croquette ¥64 (usually ¥86) - With beef inside, it has a rich flavor. Onion Croquette ¥64 (usually ¥86) - Thick and cooked just right, with a nice texture that we enjoy. Fried Horse Mackerel ¥81 (usually ¥102) - Thick and crispy breadcrumbs, a favorite as a beer snack. Chicken Tenderloin Cheese Cutlet ¥140 (usually ¥162) - Our absolute favorite. The crispy coating, tender chicken, and rich cheese flavor are a perfect match. Plum and Shiso Chicken (3 pieces) ¥205 (usually ¥226) - Delicious eaten as is with the saltiness of plum. Potato Salad ¥151/100g - A simple and delicious "mom's potato salad" that lives up to expectations. The mayonnaise and salt are subtle, allowing you to taste the potato flavor. Sweetfish Nanban-zuke ¥270 - We love Nanban-zuke, and being able to buy it along with fried food at a butcher shop is a big plus. The vinegar and salt are mild, with a gentle flavor. ■■■ Service ■■■ On Saturdays, each fried item is ¥20 off (there seems to be discounts on meat as well). Sometimes the order of customers may vary depending on the contents of their order. It was a bit irritating when a regular customer cut in line and ordered as if it was expected, but overall the staff is friendly and sometimes show thoughtful gestures. ■■■ Atmosphere ■■■ It's common to find a fried food section in a butcher shop, but this place seems to offer more variety than average. It's a convenient and appreciated shop for eating out, home-cooked meals, or bento boxes. ■■■ Access ■■■ Located on the right hand side a little east from Omiya Street on Hachijo Street.

On the 21st of every month, there is a flea market called Koboichi held at Toji Temple. Walking west from the Hachijo exit of Kyoto Station along Hachijo Street, I came across a shop that sells fried food, or rather a full-fledged butcher shop. They had a large refrigerated showcase for meat and an equally large one for pre-fried fried food, indicating that their fried food sells well. While waiting, I counted and found over 100 croquettes prepared. In addition to that, there were many other types of fried food neatly lined up, which was quite a spectacle. Although it may be impolite, it is likely that people eat while walking or standing, so I gave up on the meat-only cutlet. I ordered croquettes, beef croquettes, hamburger cutlet, and squid tempura. They fry them after you order. The croquettes are intentionally made in an old-fashioned way using dry bread crumbs. The rest are made with fresh bread crumbs. They were crispy and well-fried, with no unpleasant taste of oil. I was surprised by the light flavor of the lard. The most delicious one was the hamburger cutlet. The flavor of the beef was wonderful. I realized that Kansai has a culture of beef. It cost just over 500 yen, and I was very happy to receive shredded cabbage as a service. I would love to go back again if I have the chance.

On July 16th, I made a detour to a cake shop on my way home and found out that they were open, so I decided to buy some fried food. This shop is well-known in the neighborhood for their fried items. It was my first visit after living in the southern district for 16 years. Shops like this are easy to visit if you pass by them every day, but it's not something you would go out of your way to do. The oil used for frying was really good, and the batter was delicious. It was a bit too crispy for my liking though. I bought 2 croquettes for 60 yen each, 2 beef croquettes for 80 yen each, a chicken cheese cutlet for 120 yen, a ham cutlet for 70 yen, and a hamburger cutlet for 130 yen. The hamburger cutlet was flattened hamburger meat fried like a cutlet. It had a higher meat content compared to a minced cutlet. With a 10% discount on Tuesdays, the total came to 648 yen. My husband loved the hamburger cutlet, so I would like to visit again if I have the chance. I wish it was a bit closer to my neighborhood... Overall, it was a great fried food shop that I envy my neighbors for having.

I found a shop on the way from Kyoto Station to Toji Temple while riding a rental bike. It looked like a butcher shop frying food at the storefront. Feeling a bit peckish, I approached the shop and saw a sign that said "Every Saturday is Service Day - 20 yen off fried food." Intrigued, I was drawn in by the offer. By the way, croquettes are normally 60 yen, so they would be 40 yen with the discount. The lady in front of me bought 10 of them and paid 400 yen. Perhaps the croquette with the best cost performance in Kyoto? I pondered as I ordered one myself, feeling a bit embarrassed. They fry it after you order, so I waited a bit. When they handed me the freshly made croquette, it was impossible not to enjoy it. After the crispy crunch, a natural sweetness spread through my mouth. The gourmet experience from a cyclist's perspective, something you can't get from a tour bus or taxi, was truly enjoyable.
