Oct 24, 2022 - naba's musings - Takoyaki with dashi soy sauce! This is a solo review of the food court at Al Plaza Joyo. When it comes to takoyaki, the classic way is to have it with a soft dough that is rich in dashi, crispy on the outside, and not too gooey on the inside, almost overflowing with broth. Lately, it's been hard to find places that serve takoyaki this way and that's really disappointing. At the very least, having takoyaki with a flavorful dashi and soy sauce glaze is good. This place had a soy sauce glaze, which was sweet. The dough had a decent amount of dashi, making it suitable for plain baking as well. The dough might have been made with strong flour as it was a bit firm. It didn't overflow with broth, but it wasn't bad at all. Thanks for the meal.

I don't visit Joyo City often because it's in a remote location, but I have been to Takei's main store a few times. I recently had tsukemen at Takei for the first time in a while, then went to a nearby shopping center. It's so hot in Kyoto, so I wanted something cold to eat, and I bought soft serve ice cream at a takoyaki shop. It tasted delicious because of the heat.

After visiting Shojura-in Temple (Furin-ji), we had a late breakfast and snack, so we needed a lunch to tide us over until dinner (for 2 people).
