Second visit. We reserved a lunch course for around 7000 yen. We brought our 5-month-old baby, but we confirmed in advance and they kindly accepted the reservation. I was able to eat while the baby was sleeping in the baby carrier. When he woke up, I calmed him down at the entrance of the restaurant without him crying. It was my first delicious meal out since giving birth. There may be voices saying not to bring a baby, but thanks to the parents' response, the restaurant, and the understanding of other customers, we had a wonderful sushi lunch. Grateful.

I am convinced that cherry blossoms in Japan have a high economic impact. However, during times of COVID infection, I aim to go out during times when there are fewer people. I visited a restaurant located in Kiyamachi, between Shijo and Gojo, which has been popular for over 8 years. I dined there with someone who I am grateful to. This person used to work in this area before, and often shared stories from the past. Leaving that aside, the food was of a high level. I would like to visit again.

This was my first visit to Sushi Taizou in Kawaramachi, Kyoto! It's about a 10-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station. I was looking for a sushi restaurant around Kawaramachi and happened to come across this place! I went with a friend for lunch. We ordered the "Yamato" course, which costs 2000 yen per person (excluding drinks). The course includes appetizers, 8 pieces of sushi, chawanmushi (savory egg custard), soup, and dessert. The amount of food you get for 2000 yen is quite good! The restaurant only has a small counter, but it's very clean and has a nice atmosphere. We were able to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace and left very satisfied. I would love to come back for dinner next time! Thank you for the meal!

Matubara-doori soba no sushi no omise. I was drawn to visit this sushi restaurant for lunch because of the option to have appetizers and sushi at a reasonable price. They offer courses for 2000 yen, 3000 yen, and 5000 yen, with the 5000 yen course including appetizers. When I asked, they said it was okay for each person in the group to order different courses, so I ordered the 3000 yen course and my friend ordered the 5000 yen course, planning to share and try a bit of each. The differences between the 3000 yen and 5000 yen courses were the appetizers, sashimi, and variety of sushi toppings, with the surprising discovery that the 3000 yen course actually had more sushi pieces. The food was authentic and carefully prepared, with a straightforward and likable taste. The restaurant has a slightly unique atmosphere but the clean and cozy counter seating made me think it would be nice to come back for dinner as well. Ambiance: ★★★☆☆ Daytime Drinking: ★★★☆☆ (would be 4 stars for the 5000 yen lunch) Situation: Alone, as a couple Notes: Counter seating only. Clean and cozy atmosphere 5000 yen Course: - Appetizer: Fresh yuba and Uni from Nemuro, Simmered Octopus - Sashimi: Meita from Awaji, Katsuo from Kesennuma, Tsubugai, Hamo - Chawanmushi: White fish, Lily root, Shrimp - Nigiri: Sliced halibut, Shichimi shrimp, Zukey, Otoro, Kohada, Iwashi, Simmered conger eel - Soup - Ice Cream 3000 yen Course: - Appetizer: Sprinkled with Moduku and Zucchini Edamame - Simmered Octopus - Chawanmushi - Nigiri: Meita, Swordtip squid (lightly grilled with salt and sudachi), Hamo - Kisu kelp wrapping - Aji - Zukey - Chutoro - Soup - Ice Cream Total: A little over 10,000 yen - Small bottle x1 - Mimuro cedar x1 (summer version, Yamada Nishiki 100%)

I visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. I was nervous at first, but the chef and the hostess were very friendly and made me feel comfortable. The sushi and appetizers were delicately seasoned and delicious, and I couldn't stop eating the pickled ginger. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again! They have both counter seats and table seats.

Today's lunch consisted of a course with 2 Tai Zou tsukidashi dishes, 12 pieces of chawanmushi sushi, and dessert. The first tsukidashi dish included watercress, shimeji mushrooms, and chrysanthemum with fresh ikura on the side. The second tsukidashi dish was a scoop of yuba. The sushi course included various types of sushi such as fugu with grated ponzu, natural sea bream from Awaji Island, kamasu, swordtip squid with salt and sudachi, botan shrimp with kombu, lean tuna zuke, natural flatfish with kombu, yellowtail from Noto Peninsula, snow crab, tairagi clam, anago, and fluffy sea urchin. Although there was no sea urchin in the course, I resisted the urge to add it as an extra. Compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to like Fukagawa Ryuju and Gion Sushi Chuhou, this one lacked impact and extravagance but was a more casual and easy-to-enjoy sushi restaurant.

A sushi restaurant by a small river along the Kamo River. It is run by a couple and you can spend a very peaceful time there. They only offer set courses with seasonal Edomae sushi. They also serve a variety of appetizers and have a selection of unique Japanese sake, which would be a delight for sake enthusiasts. A must-visit place when in Kyoto.

No smoking. I had the New Year's lunch course. It cost around 6000 yen. The restaurant has about 7 counter seats and one private box. The food was not bad, except for the chawanmushi. The mini osechi was cute.

Sushi Taizo is a wonderful place with a lovely owner, Mr. Kushida. He is friendly and easy to talk to. The menu includes dishes like steamed bowl with fish and squid, red snapper sashimi, octopus, horse mackerel, bonito tataki, miso soup, salmon roe, and more. The lunch is great value for money! I even added extra dishes (laughs).

I wanted to eat sushi, so I stopped by this restaurant for lunch. I chose the lunch course, and the menu included chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), flounder, tempura squid, horse mackerel, marinated Thai fish with kelp, yellowtail with spicy radish, marinated tuna rice bowl, mackerel, pickled sayori fish with Japanese pepper leaves, abalone, and boiled flatfish. Each piece of sushi already had soy sauce on it, with just the right amount for each topping, making it very delicious. The ratio of rice to topping was perfect and easy to eat. Although only counter private rooms were available in the restaurant, I still enjoyed my meal. I realized once again that I prefer to eat sushi at the counter, watching the chef prepare it. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice, located just behind the Kamo River. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again.

I visited the sushi restaurant "Taizou" located near Takatsuji, down from Kiyamachi Shijo in Kyoto. The restaurant is on the first floor of a building next to "Daidengenkken" and has a nice atmosphere with a counter seating for 8 and a private room. The menu offers lunch sets priced at ¥2,000, ¥3,000, and ¥5,000, as well as dinner sets at ¥9,800 or ¥12,800. I opted for the ¥12,800 dinner omakase course, which included various dishes like boiled tofu skin with sea urchin, assorted sashimi, and nigiri sushi. The meal also came with a selection of sake, including French and Japanese varieties. The owner was very welcoming and the overall experience was delightful. I will definitely visit again.

Located right in the middle of Kiyamachi Shijo and Gojo, this beautiful restaurant with a white exterior doesn't look like your typical sushi place. With autumn in full swing, I visited Tai Zang for their sushi after a long time. We opted for the course menu and started off with some sake. The selection of sake was displayed, making it hard to choose. The first dish was a trio of mushrooms - matsutake, eringi, shimeji - with spinach and soy sauce-marinated ikura. It was fragrant and delicious. The sake was Izumo Fuji Junmai Ginjo. Next, we had tender simmered octopus, cooked to perfection. It was so soft and flavorful, pairing well with the sake. Then, we enjoyed poached and lightly seared cod milt. The careful preparation was evident in the dish. The sake kept flowing. For sashimi, we had grilled conger eel, Hokkaido mantis shrimp, Awaji flounder, Hokkaido whelk, and botan shrimp. The botan shrimp was prepared beautifully, with the head grilled separately. The sashimi was exquisite. The recommended Shinomiya Akibare sake was served. Grilled barracuda with ginkgo nuts was a classic dish. The ginkgo nuts were substantial and delicious. We had Tobiroku Tokubetsu Junmai with it. The bonito sake-marinated dish was a perfect accompaniment for the sake drinkers. The meal paused with a steamed crab dish. We enjoyed the Katsukoma Junmai Sawayamatsu Morohari sake with the sushi course, which included swordtip squid, tuna belly, prawn, sea urchin, red snapper, ark shell, and fatty tuna wrapped in seaweed, as well as tamago, red miso soup, Kenhachi rock black sugar sherbet. The seasonal delicacies were incorporated throughout the meal. It was a satisfying dining experience. Thank you for the feast.

I made a reservation for my first visit to this popular restaurant among regular customers. It was fully booked today as well. I indulged in plenty of cold sake during the daytime. The sushi was delicious, and you could tell they put in extra effort. We also received a complimentary hand roll. The owner was friendly and kind, making our lunchtime enjoyable.

Located between Shijo and Gojo, Tai Zang is a clean and elegant restaurant with a white interior in the quirky town of Kyoto. With a spacious eight-seat counter, the atmosphere is welcoming and the owners are delightful. They offer two omakase courses and have a well-curated selection of sake and shochu. The meal starts with sesame tofu, uni, and delicate mozuku seaweed. The seasonal sashimi platter showcases the best of each region, followed by hand-rolled temaki with sea urchin. An indulgent dish of ankimo and grilled ayu is served before the highlight of the meal - sushi. Each piece is expertly crafted and pairs perfectly with the sake. From white fish to tamago and anago, the sushi is a delight. Though the meal passes quickly, the experience is thoroughly enjoyable and leaves you wanting to return. Thank you for the feast.

In Minoya-cho, just below Koyamachi, between Shijo and Gojo, you will find Taizo. It's a great place to enjoy the winter atmosphere. We started with ponzu sauce, which had a perfect balance of sweetness. Spring is here. Next, we had freshly made yuba (tofu skin) and a side dish of nanohana (rapeseed flowers) and simmered kombu (kelp). The light appetizers kept coming. We then had "Aijou-maki," a roll of seaweed with plum, a light and heartwarming dish. Following that were grilled dishes like sweetfish and Spanish mackerel in Saikyo miso marinade, as well as homemade karasumi (bottarga) and fish roe. The homemade karasumi was especially delightful. The nigiri sushi included saury, flying squid, gizzard shad, botan shrimp, mullet roe, marinated tuna, fatty tuna, yellowtail, conger eel, and tamago (egg). Taizo's sushi is not only visually appealing but also incredibly delicious. I look forward to visiting again when the seasons change. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

In November 2016, I revisited Taizo-san as the season changed. The spacious, bright interior with Italian furniture-like chairs is very relaxing. I love the cleanliness of the place. Today, I had yuba and sea urchin, steamed abalone, and ikura, all perfect for sake. And then, I had horsehair crab with uchiko, which was delicious as a seasonal dish. For sushi, I had saury, shrimp, squid, two types of conger eel, octopus, two types of eel, and tamago, followed by red miso soup and dessert. I enjoyed Ishizuchi and Kariho sake. I am always satisfied with this restaurant and I look forward to visiting again when the season changes. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

In August 2016, I revisited a restaurant called Taizo in Matsubarauemachi, which I first visited in March 2014. The owner, Mr. Kushiya, used to work at a Japanese restaurant at the Hyatt Regency. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a semi-private room and a counter with 8 seats. For lunch, they offer three options: 1) Yamato (¥2000) with 8 pieces of nigiri sushi, 2) Harima (¥3000) with 12 pieces of nigiri sushi, and 3) Kyoto (¥5000) with a seasonal sashimi assortment and premium nigiri sushi. I opted for the Harima set this time. The meal started with marinated white fish and squid, as well as a savory chawanmushi. The acidity of the marinated dish was appetizing, and the chawanmushi had a gentle dashi flavor with a hint of yuzu. The nigiri sushi included flatfish, squid, sea bream, horse mackerel, saury, crab with salmon roe, bluefin tuna, conger eel, sea urchin, eel, and egg. The rice was well-seasoned with vinegar, providing a refreshing taste. Each piece of sushi was simple yet meticulously prepared, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. The seasonal saury and crab were particularly delicious. The meal ended with red miso soup and black sugar ice cream. The restaurant offers a good selection of sake, including junmai and ginjo sake such as Kokuryu, Tokubetsu Honjozo, and Karaku. Overall, Taizo is a great place for a reasonably priced sushi lunch in Kyoto. It's a casual and welcoming spot within walking distance from Kawaramachi. It's definitely worth a visit for a satisfying meal.
