I had wanted to go there for a while but never had the chance until now. The draft beer was ice-cold and delicious. The ramen had a Kyoto-style taste which was really good. There was something that made me want to go back again.

Had lunch in front of Ginkaku-ji. It was a high-quality Kyoto ramen. It was properly salty. This ramen follows the traditional Kyoto style with a unique taste of soy sauce acidity, reminiscent of Masutani. It seems to be from a disciple of the original shop. It's milder than the original, but still delicious. I think it's a great restaurant.

At one point, this place used to be a branch of the famous restaurant "Masutani" (the main branch was called Imadegawa at the time), and the taste and style are similar, but sometimes surpass the main branch in deliciousness. The chashu ramen comes with thinly sliced 6 to 7 pieces of pork. With kujyo negi (green onions) and medium-thin noodles, the chicken broth-based soup with a sharp soy sauce flavor, along with back fat and red pepper, is a traditional Kyoto flavor. The chashu is incredibly tender with no dryness, almost melting in your mouth. The thickness of the pork pairs perfectly with the medium-thin noodles. As someone who has been eating this style of ramen for over 30 years, it feels like they have upgraded the tradition in their own way. On the table, there are white pepper, black pepper, red pepper, soy sauce, and vinegar, but black pepper has only been placed in recent years. Some regular customers have mistakenly put it on and looked disappointed, so personally, I recommend white pepper and red pepper. Finish off the soup and you will be thoroughly satisfied with a delicious bowl of ramen.

Kyoto, Kyoto City. Near Ginkaku-ji Temple. Found this place while heading towards Ginkaku-ji Temple after getting off at the bus stop "Ginkaku-ji Michi". It caught my attention so I decided to stop by on my way back. It was just before noon but the place was full. Waited for about 10 minutes. They have counter seats and table seats. The owner and what seemed to be his mother welcomed me warmly. I couldn't decide between the fried rice set for 900 yen or the fried chicken set for 1,000 yen. The fried chicken set comes with a small portion of rice. I chose the fried rice set. The noodles were thin, similar to Shirakawa Ramen. The aroma was similar to Kyushu Ramen Ishii. The ramen was delicious. I added some chopped pickled ginger for extra flavor. Maybe I should have gotten the large portion. It costs an additional 100 yen for a large portion. The fried rice was light and not too heavy, very tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I finally visited this ramen shop that has its roots in Matsutani. I had been wanting to go there for a while. I went there for lunch on a weekday. I ordered the large ramen with firm noodles, and it was served in a large bowl. It looked like a shoyu ramen with a small amount of back fat, and it looked delicious. The taste was a bit light compared to Matsutani, but when I added a little bit of ramen sauce, it became my preferred flavor. I was surprised when the staff instructed me to return the ramen sauce to its original tray while I was eating. The ramen was really delicious, but the attitude of the staff was very disappointing. I left the restaurant without saying thank you.

I visited the restaurant around noon and sat at the empty counter seat, ordering the "ramen regular" with my preferred noodle firmness. The bowl arrived with plenty of pork fat floating on top of the soup, along with chopped green onions and slices of chashu. The visual presentation was very similar to the previous branch of "Masutani" that used to be in this location, even though the name of the restaurant has changed. The soup had a rich flavor from simmering chicken bones, a hint of spiciness, a creamy texture from the generous amount of pork fat, and a sharpness from the soy sauce. The noodles were straight and thin with a chewy texture that paired well with the soup and green onions. The chashu was small but tender, with a flavorful taste from being well-marinated. Overall, the taste was similar to "Masutani" but slightly lighter, reminiscent of the taste from the previous branch. The restaurant's proximity to "Masutani" and the similarity in taste may suggest some differentiation in their flavor profiles.

I came for lunch on Monday, April 5, 2021. I ordered ramen, fried chicken, and fried rice. It was very delicious and warmed my heart. My mouth is happy. I am completely satisfied and full of happiness. The pork bone soy sauce with floating lard creates an amazing aroma and flavor that blends perfectly with the noodles. It is an exquisite masterpiece. Next time, I want to order the large ramen. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come back. I am grateful for all the ingredients in this world. Calling all delicious foods♪ The more you eat, the more power overflows♪

I had work in Kyoto city and visited for a late lunch. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu, where I saw ramen (regular) for 650 yen, and (large) for 750 yen... I was happy to see these prices after a long time. I ordered the large size and it arrived in about 5 minutes. It had the atmosphere and visual of a Kyoto-originated tonkotsu ramen. The lightly tonkotsu-scented soup had a good balance of oiliness and flavor intensity. I enjoyed slurping up the thin noodles. If I had to say something, I forgot to ask for the noodles to be cooked firm, but it was delicious. Thank you for the meal! (^^ゞ

I visited the restaurant around 7 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. I had always thought it was a branch of Mastani, but as I drove by, I noticed it was a different place. There were no other customers at that time, which was expected for a Tuesday evening. I ordered the regular noodles and a beer. The beer came first, followed by the ramen. The ramen looked and tasted similar to Mastani, but maybe a bit lighter. I noticed a Mastani bowl displayed when I paid, which made me wonder if there was some connection between the two.

This is also a visit record from 2018. A shop that was renovated and opened at the location of the branch of the long-established Kyoto restaurant "Masutani". In April 2018, I visited for the first time, embarrassed to admit that I love ramen. It's quite difficult to find, but since "Masutani" closes in the evening, I noticed that this shop stays open late and decided to give it a try. Of course, ramen is the main dish, but what surprised me was that they also serve tantanmen. I wonder if this is connected to the tantanmen at the current Ramen Alley branch? I was very curious, but in the end, I ordered the default ramen with firm noodles. It was delicious. Although I haven't visited the original "Masutani" in a while, I can't make a direct comparison, but the taste is definitely in line with the original. The apprentice "Hosokawa" has been a bit off lately, but the chicken and soy sauce ramen at this shop on that day was delicious. It's a representative of Kyoto chicken back fat soy sauce, a traditional Kyoto ramen style that is often confused with tonkotsu with back fat. When it comes to Kyoto ramen, this is the one.

I went to the long-established ramen shop "Shirakawa" near the Kawaramachi Imadegawa intersection in Kyoto. This shop is famous for its chicken broth with plenty of back fat and soy sauce ramen. Shirakawa is a Chinese ramen restaurant that offers basic menu items such as ramen, chashu ramen, and tantanmen. You can also opt for a larger portion of noodles for an additional 100 yen. They have set menus that include fried rice or fried chicken. The restaurant has both counter and tatami seating, and it is non-smoking. There seems to be a parking lot nearby, but it is unconfirmed. There are also coin parking lots in the area. During my first visit in July 2018, I tried the ramen for 650 yen, which had a traditional Kyoto-style broth with visible pork fat. The container for the candy was from Mastani, so I wonder if there is a connection there.

The latest trend is to explore the traditional flavors of Kyoto. Lately, I haven't been enjoying the rich tonkotsu ramen as much, maybe it's because of my age. This time, I visited Shirakawa for lunch around 12 o'clock. There was one group of customers when I arrived, but more people started to come in. As usual, I ordered the chashu ramen with rice. After a short wait, the ramen arrived quickly. The green onions were thin and looked like Kujyo green onions. The noodles were slightly thin and straight. The taste was consistent with what I expected, but it was a bit on the salty side for me. Also, I felt like there was less chashu compared to other places where they serve a lot. As a fan of chashu ramen, I was a bit disappointed.
