I found a limited-time peach roll with fully ripe peaches packed inside. The castella cake uses 100% Koshihikari rice flour from Tainai, Niigata Prefecture, and the cream is from Hokkaido. When you cut it open, you can see the peaches inside. The only downside is that the expiration date is today.

I used to order it and it was delicious, so I went to Kyoto Takashimaya to buy it. The madeleines called "Eemon" are really good, just like their name suggests. There are two types, one with citrus fruit and one with black beans, and both are delicious. I usually don't like black beans, but this is tasty! I need to order more. I also tried their lemon cake before, which was delicious, and their sablé cookies were also tasty.

I decided to buy a cake at Takashimaya for the first time in a while and was torn between options. There were many Japanese-style cakes lined up, all looking delicious. Mont Blanc with domestic chestnuts for 702 yen, Double Fromage with yuzu and three types of cheese for 486 yen, and Chocolate Chiffon with ripe strawberries for 648 yen. The chestnut one was not too sweet and had a nice crispy pie texture. The cheesecake had a strong yuzu scent which wasn't to my liking. The chiffon cake was light and fluffy. The acidity of the strawberries paired well with the chocolate cream and was easy to eat. A place where you can enjoy Japanese-style cakes. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

GOKAN, a sweets shop located in Kitahama, Osaka, is known for its signature roll cake called "Junsei Rulo" made with pure rice. This roll cake, priced at 1,080 yen including tax, is made using the traditional method from when the shop was first established. It features a fluffy cream and red bean paste filling that is perfectly balanced and rolled up to create a delicious treat!

My wife likes these madeleines, so she asked me to buy them while shopping at the department store. Normally they are made with black beans, but this season they have chestnut madeleines. Madeleines are light and appealing to the senses. Chopped chestnuts are included under the madeleine. They are reasonably priced at just under 200 yen each. I ended up buying a lot without even realizing it.

Last year, I refrained from going out due to the coronavirus, but this year I couldn't resist and went out to eat. I paid 2,000 yen and got change back. The cost performance was great. In the midst of this crazy situation with the Tokyo Olympics during the pandemic, the governor of Tokyo and the ruling Suga administration are unbearable. A poster from a restaurant saying "Vote for anyone other than the LDP" is trending on social media. Some even suggest adding Ishin (Party) to the list.

It seems that the main store is located in Kitahama, Osaka, but I always buy from Kyoto Takashimaya or Umeda Hankyu Department Store. Two summers ago, I bought a peach whole cake and became addicted to it. It was full of peaches and very satisfying to eat. Since then, I started buying strawberry shortcakes as well. Last year, I couldn't go out due to the pandemic, which was very disappointing. I wonder how it will be this summer. If the pandemic doesn't improve, I won't be able to go out to buy cakes (I have an underlying health condition, so COVID is a big enemy).

This series is really famous for their lemon flavor. I tried the black bean madeleine for the first time this time, and it was a light and tasty treat. I didn't know about this series before. It would be nice to receive it as a souvenir. The sweets from this shop don't have a special feeling, but they are easy to eat and I like them. The price is reasonable, and for some reason, it's one of my favorite things. I find myself imagining someone giving it to me as a gift. Thank you for the meal! I moved to Takashimaya and purchased a lemon cake that caught my eye. I love cakes made with lemon, so whenever I see one, I end up buying it. When I checked the reviews after returning home, I found out that five followers had visited the store, and they mentioned that the sweets made with matcha are also delicious. Oh, I should have bought that too... The company is based in Osaka, and this store in Kyoto seems to be their only branch. The lemon cake has a fine-textured batter packed tightly, but it has a soft texture. It has a fluffy lemon scent. The top of the cake is covered with a firm lemon-flavored cream, which gives a nostalgic taste. Next time, I definitely want to try the crepe made with matcha. Thank you for the meal~!

This is a gift. A limited edition autumn and winter treat, a chocolate with a whole chestnut inside. A blend of carefully selected cacao chocolates mixed with fresh cream, with a whole chestnut added inside for a luxurious finish. It is a seasonal product available only in autumn and winter. The chestnut inside the chocolate is a perfect match. The chocolate is not too sweet and very delicious.

In this shop, they call roll cakes "rulos." The classic rulo is filled with black beans, custard cream, and whipped cream. I love the classic rulo, but the seasonal rulos that change with the seasons are also recommended. In autumn, they have chestnut and roasted green tea flavors. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The shop was rated 3.37 during the visit. It's the season for sweet potatoes, and I really wanted to eat some, but I felt hesitant about the heaviness of just eating a whole sweet potato. However, when I passed by Gokan-san, I saw they had sweet potato tart. It had a small amount of baked sweet potato on top, so I thought it would be light enough to eat. It lived up to my expectations. The bite-sized baked sweet potato was easy to eat, and the smooth sweet potato cream was not dry at all, but smooth. It was easy to eat and had a good amount of sweet potato flavor. It satisfied my craving and I got to enjoy a great dessert.

Located on the B1F of the department store Kyoto Takashimaya, this pastry shop offers a variety of Western-style sweets, including fresh pastries. One of their cakes, the "Junsei Ruro" is made with Niigata-grown Koshihikari rice flour incorporated into the dough, which gives it a chewy and elastic texture. It is filled with domestic black soybean cream and custard cream. The "Gokan no Cheesecake" is a moist and fluffy souffle-type cheesecake with raisins, adding a sweet and tangy flavor to the cheesecake.

I love the lemon cake from my home in Osaka and Kyoto. It's only sold there? That's the lemon cake that stimulates all five senses. I came to Kyoto, so of course I'll buy some. Let's buy 10 of them since I came all this way. No matter how hard I try, my wife manages to keep 7 of them. I really want to hold on to at least 3. The sponge cake is delicious, coated with lemon cream. The taste is so delicious and it's just the right size, perfect with tea. It would be nice if I could buy it at Takashimaya in Nagoya without having to go all the way to Osaka or Kyoto. At least I managed to get one out of the 10. If I can get 2 more, I'll continue the fight for the remaining 3.

I ate a Hina Matsuri cake with my daughter who has become a working adult. The large cake featured dolls, a golden screen, and candle lights, allowing us to enjoy the Hina Matsuri atmosphere without needing to decorate with dolls. It was a strawberry shortcake with a soft texture and excellent strawberries. We also had a smaller cake with just dolls on it, which was a chocolate-flavored strawberry shortcake. Both cakes were delicious and we enjoyed them.

Established in the 15th year of Heisei, this Western confectionery shop is based in Osaka's Kitahama area and has expanded to department stores. The name "Gokan" refers to the five senses of "people," "freshness," "season," "local culture," and "peace of mind," which are the five principles that confectionery artisans keep in mind as they create their works. This time, I tried their baked confections instead of cakes. The Ho no Ichi ¥108 is a unique baked good that encases a cookie inside a monaka (rice wafer). The outer monaka shell uses "Shin Taisho Nure" mochi rice from Hokuriku, while the cookie inside uses "100% Koshihikari" rice flour from Tainai, Niigata. The gentle texture of the fluffy monaka combined with the crispy and moist cookie surprisingly complement each other well and taste delicious. The Sakura Rin (1 piece for ¥103) is a butter cookie made with Fukuoka's Hirohachi-do's real kudzu, a grain and fruit that Japanese people have valued since ancient times. The cookie combines the kudzu with domestic wheat and cane sugar, resulting in a light crispy texture and a soft moist dough. There are over 10 flavors available, with the Earl Grey featuring high-quality tea leaves and Bergamot from Provence, giving it a refreshing aftertaste. The Macadamia flavor incorporates organic cocoa into the dough and mixes in plenty of roasted macadamia nuts, adding a hint of sweetness and a crunchy texture as an accent.

- Ripe Strawberry Shortcake 562 yen (tax included)
A fluffy sponge cake sandwiched with smooth whipped cream and ripe strawberries. The strawberries are ripe, with a strong acidity rather than sweetness, creating a perfect balance with the sweetness of the cream. The cream is light and the amount is just right. The sponge cake is fluffy and gentle, similar to a chiffon cake. This shortcake, with its ripe strawberries, cream, and sponge cake, is well-balanced and delicious for anyone to enjoy.
- Mont Blanc with Domestic Chestnuts 594 yen (tax included)
Enjoy the sweetness and depth of domestic chestnuts, rich cream, and crispy pie texture. The chestnut cream is unique in its piping style and has a very sticky texture, closer to a paste than cream. This allows you to fully savor the flavor of the chestnuts. The cream is not overly sweet and complements the chestnuts well. The buttery pie crust has a crunchy texture that adds to the enjoyment.
- Pear and Caramel Chocolat 519 yen (tax included)
Enjoy the compote of domestic pears and caramel chocolat mousse. The chocolate glaze contains nuts, adding a subtle bitterness. The caramel chocolat mousse has a smooth texture with a delicious caramel flavor. The pear panna cotta and compote offer different textures and a refreshing taste. Overall, the chocolate mousse cake is light and easy to eat, with a unique combination of flavors.
- Gokan's Montelimar 519 yen (tax included)
An adaptation of Montelimar mousse using domestic honey and yuzu juice in a five-sense style. The Montelimar mousse has a great melt-in-your-mouth texture with a distinct yuzu flavor. The yuzu jelly is rich in flavor and aroma, allowing you to experience the changing taste of yuzu from top to bottom. The chocolate mousse has a sweetness of milk chocolate, creating an excellent combination with the yuzu. For more detailed information, please check out the blog article. [Link provided]

I love Fuwari's sweets, but in Kobe it's black bean flavor. I like black beans too, but my daughters don't really like them... so in Kyoto it's matcha flavor! Whenever I go to Kyoto and can stop by Takashimaya, I always buy some to take home. I had it for the first time in a while, and it's still fluffy and delicious! It doesn't last beyond the day (although I eat it the next day), but I highly recommend it!
