Hello, this is Average (^_^). First of all, on Thursday, I had an early finish so I decided to go somewhere and ended up at "Cheka" in Okazaki, known for its highly rated shaved ice. I've been trying different shaved ice places this year, and last week I went to "Amami Dokoro Akachaya" in Hyogo Prefecture, which was ranked number one in the shaved ice category on Tabelog. Unfortunately, when I went on a Sunday at the end of May, there was no line even at 3 pm, but when I entered the shop, I found out that they only start serving shaved ice from the end of June. So, this time, I made sure to call ahead to "Cheka" and check their hours on Tabelog before going. I took a taxi to the shop as it was a bit far from the station and the timing was tight. It's not something I usually do, but I had to make sure I didn't make the same mistake twice.
When I arrived at the shop at 6:35 pm (they close at 7 pm), I was told that they had already finished serving shaved ice. I felt frozen, just like the ice, but I accepted it and left the shop. To warm my heart, I decided to have some takoyaki at "Tako to Kentaro" nearby. The shop was located in a residential area not frequented by tourists, and I was a bit worried if they were still in business since the latest review on Tabelog was about six months old. Luckily, they were open and I found a couple of regular customers inside enjoying their takoyaki.
I ordered the recommended items by a Tabelog reviewer, "Takopoteto" and "Takotororo". The takoyaki was made fresh after I placed my order, and the combination of octopus and potato salad in "Takopoteto" was surprisingly delicious. The takoyaki itself had a nice texture with a fluffy interior. The "Takotororo" was a special menu item with grated yam, raw egg, and soy sauce on top of plain takoyaki. It was good, but lacked the unity of flavors compared to "Takopoteto". Overall, it was a satisfying meal and I would recommend trying it out. They also had some hidden menu items that seemed intriguing.
