After visiting Yasaka Shrine for the first time, I stopped by this restaurant. The exterior exudes a sense of history, and as soon as I sat down, the manager (?) came over to greet me politely. The grilled eel dish was piping hot and deliciously tender. I highly recommend this restaurant when sightseeing near Kawaramachi in Kyoto.

Before the restaurant opened, they allowed me to wait in the waiting area. It quickly filled up with customers. Soon, the delicious smell of eel being grilled filled the air. I splurged on a 10,000 yen set. The simmered eel liver was tasty but a bit spicy. The grilled eel was delicious. The eel liver soup had a nice aroma. The eel rice bowl was quite filling, and I left with a full stomach.

I went to this restaurant after enjoying the cherry blossoms at Maruyama Park. It's been over 40 years since I visited Matsuno Unagi-ryo in Kino, which is affiliated with this place, and I remember how delicious it was, so I decided to try it again. I didn't hesitate to enter the restaurant. I was seated and immediately ordered the grilled eel on rice (unadon) and eel liver soup. They brought tea and paper towels, and as I wiped my hands, feeling a bit tired, I unintentionally dozed off. When I woke up, the unadon I ordered was served. The amount of rice was just right, as they had asked me when I ordered, and the eel was soft, plump, and had a refreshing taste, making it delicious to eat.

I thought I had made a reservation at an eel restaurant, but it turned out I hadn't, so I ended up at this place. I ordered a grilled eel set for about 6000 yen. The eel was crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and very large. I was very satisfied with it. I really love eel. Thank you for the meal.

Steamed eel, Tokyo style. The egg was sweet and delicious, goes well with this wooden spoon. Egg and eel, so tasty. Eel in Tokyo style is really delicious, didn't expect to eat it in Kyoto. Had a highball and got full, it was delicious!

Matsuno has been a specialty eel restaurant since its establishment in 1939. Located as the fourth shop to the east of the Minamiza Theater in Gion, Kyoto, it serves as the main store of the eel specialty restaurant "Gion Matsuno." In celebration of its 80th year, the store was renovated in April 2018, with a focus on the first floor this spring. At the back, "Gion Matsuno" offers not only eel rice bowls but also popular dishes such as "steamed eel in a bamboo steamer" and "grilled eel." Various souvenirs, including Matsuno's eel rice bowl, can be purchased at the entrance. - Various eel rice bowls - Grilled eel - Broiled eel - Eel simmered in soy sauce - Higashiyonken (fried senbei) In the midst of it all, I found "eel bone senbei." It was something I had been looking for but couldn't find easily, so I bought it on a whim. There were several flavors available, but I chose the "soy sauce flavor." When I tried it at home, it was lighter than I expected, with just a hint of saltiness, but it had a crispy texture and was delicious. Next time, I'll make time to enjoy eel dishes more leisurely. Before watching Kabuki, make sure to have a meal first ☺️ I recommend the steamed eel at Gion Matsunoseiro, located right near Shijo Minami-za. The eel is fluffy and delicious, especially when enjoyed with the egg for a smooth and tasty experience. It's so delicious and convenient to reach from the station, which is great!

I visited the restaurant for lunch on the weekend. Despite not being crowded, as soon as I entered, they said it would take about 40 minutes. However, it didn't actually take that long. I started with grilled eel liver and pickles. Then, the main dish of eel rice bowl (bamboo) and eel liver soup with pickles were served. The eel was elegant and tender with a gentle seasoning typical of Gion. Some may find it lacking, but compared to the strong and fragrant eel with thick sauce, this delicate and satisfying eel rice bowl was a different experience.

I became an eel at Gion and jumped into the steamer, what was I steamed with?? I had it for the first time, but it was steamed eel with egg on top. It was so hot that I had to eat it while blowing on it like crazy to avoid getting burned. Honestly, it was too hot to really taste the flavor haha. Thank you for the meal*\(^o^)/*

The kaiseki restaurant I reserved was chaotic, so I left in the middle of the meal. I ended up going to Matsuno instead. My partner had shiroyaki, and I had tare. The pickles were cute♫ The steamed dish followed by grilled dish was Kanto-style, fluffy and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

The entrance is filled with a delicious smell of grilled eel. The staff are all very attentive, and the female owner always has a great atmosphere with a smile. They also offer bento boxes for takeout.

Walking from Yasaka Shrine towards Kawaramachi, trying to avoid the sun as much as possible by choosing the shade of the arcade, I suddenly caught a strong aroma of well-cooked and delicious eel. Before I knew it, I was already inside the restaurant, haha. I ordered the Hitsumabushi, which was steamed in the Kanto style. It had a rich flavor with a strong sweetness in the sauce, which I quite liked. The only downside was the noisy customers at the next table. In Kyoto, it's rare to see customers at an eel restaurant being so loud. It's not the restaurant's fault, but maybe it's just because there are many tourists around.
