I had a bit of trouble finding the restaurant because it's tucked away quietly. The sashimi of hamo fish made me feel the essence of Kyoto. The dish of simmered red radish was unexpectedly generous in portion, with crispy and tender red radish complemented by a gentle sauce and a refreshing touch of ginger. It was very soothing. The eel bowl was cooked to perfection in Kansai style, with a rich aroma and flavor. The blend of two types of rice was sweet and round, pairing perfectly with the sauce. I also had two glasses of draft beer and two sweet potato shochu on the rocks. I enjoyed looking at the menu at the counter and ordering a la carte, spending around 6,000 yen. I realized that I really like this kind of restaurant, and I will definitely come back again.

I visited a casual small dish restaurant located deep in the alley of Ayakoji Miyukicho for the first time. The restaurant has a counter with 5 seats on the first floor, as well as table seats on the first and second floors, making it a cozy little place. This time, I made a reservation and started with the set course of 6 dishes, and then added a few more dishes. The set course of 6 dishes included Moroccan green bean with sesame dressing, sashimi of horse mackerel, squid, and conger eel, a small hot pot with onion, seaweed, and tempura of corn, lotus root, and zucchini, deep-fried red snapper scales, and a vinegar dish of tomato and watercress. Additional dishes included oden with tofu, daikon radish, and konjac, grilled chicken skewers, conger eel fry with sansho pepper sauce, and minced leeks on chicken and egg rice bowl. The menu is not extensive due to the small size of the restaurant, but the dishes are carefully prepared by the owner and have a subtle and elegant flavor that pairs well with alcohol. The set course of 6 dishes for 6000 yen felt a bit expensive, so I thought that ordering a la carte would be better in this kind of restaurant. It might be recommended to drop by without a reservation and choose your favorite dishes if you are lucky enough to get a seat.

"Osake to Shokuji Uri" is a Japanese restaurant that opened in November 2018. It was my third attempt to visit this place, as it was always fully booked. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and reasonable prices. It has a hidden, cozy feel to it, located in a narrow alley with a sophisticated Kyoto-style interior. They offer a variety of dishes including beer, plum wine, lemon shochu highball, and a wide selection of Japanese sake. The food is delicately flavored, highlighting the natural ingredients. Despite the upscale image of Kyoto restaurants, the prices here are quite affordable. During my visit, I ordered potato salad, marinated mackerel, fried conger eel with Japanese pepper sauce, grilled red snapper, oden (Japanese hot pot), and chicken and egg rice bowl. The total bill for two people, including drinks, was around 12,000 yen. The potato salad was light and refreshing, while the marinated mackerel was delicately seasoned. The fried conger eel had a crispy texture with a flavorful sauce. The grilled red snapper was juicy and flavorful, and the oden had a light broth with a variety of ingredients. The highlight was the half-boiled egg in the oden, which was rich and delicious. Overall, the food was elegant and delicious, and each dish paired well with Japanese sake. The meal ended with a comforting chicken and egg rice bowl. I highly recommend this place for a sophisticated dining experience at a reasonable price. Check out their Instagram for more information.

I had two drinks and a hearty meal for around 15,600 yen. I made a reservation for Thursday at around 7:00 pm and was able to enter immediately. The restaurant was fully booked, so without a reservation, I might not have been able to get in. The atmosphere was calm with no partitions, offering both counter and table seating for couples. The food was prepared by one chef and two staff members, creating a cozy atmosphere. The eel was delicious, whether served as sashimi, tempura, or sushi. My wife was particularly impressed by the pickles, but I'm not a fan of pickles, so I didn't try them. The hirouzu (imitation goose) in the oden was also tasty, with various ingredients inside. Yurine (lily root) was also delicious. The restroom was located on the second floor, and the staff were friendly.

I made a reservation for the opening hours and decided to dine at the counter. Unfortunately, they didn't have kizushi that day, so I skipped the sashimi and ordered a few dishes. The chicken white miso... made with tender chicken and has a mild sweetness. The white miso has a hint of richness from mascarpone. The grilled chicken... the skin is removed carefully, and it is lightly seasoned with soy sauce and yuzu pepper. The oden trio... ginger tempura, tofu, daikon, all lightly seasoned but the broth is delicious. The tempura trio... lotus root is crispy, shiitake mushroom is fragrant, and the fish cake tempura is savory. The grilled pike sushi... freshly made to order, with a touch of sansho pepper and a subtly sweet sauce. Each dish is meticulously prepared, and dining at the counter enhances the flavor. The owner is quiet and focused on cooking, so there's not much opportunity for conversation, which is a bit disappointing. The selection of dishes is limited, so it may not be suitable for those who want to try a variety of dishes. However, it's a great place to enjoy a few dishes with oden and drinks. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Kirin Lager beer, oden with daikon, konjac, and tendon. The texture of the konjac is different. Disappointed with the tendon expected from the former head chef at Suzuyo. Lacked flavor. Oysters and celery. Fried mackerel with sansho soy sauce. This was delicious. Sakura shrimp noodles. Not a fan of the broth. Mino-style boiled dish. The best dish of the day. Delicious. The service is not bad, but the head chef is quiet and makes the atmosphere uncomfortable.

Located deep in a narrow alley in Tabi-ya Machi, this small restaurant exudes a sense of hidden gem. Every dish served is meticulously prepared, and the prices are reasonable. The owner used to work at the renowned "Nikomi Suzuya" restaurant. It feels like the kind of place you would frequent if it were nearby. Perfect for enjoying delicious snacks and drinks with close friends in a relaxed atmosphere. I visited alone once and left satisfied, although I didn't get to try the oden. I look forward to returning and trying it next time. Here are some brief thoughts on each dish: Assorted sashimi - The firm texture and umami of the flounder, along with the rich flavor of the fresh squid, showcase the owner's skillful technique. Grilled duck with salt - The duck, grilled over charcoal, is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Enjoy it with salt rather than vinegar. Fried mackerel - The crispy coating and the delicious mountain pepper sauce make this dish perfect for pairing with sake. Boiled bamboo shoot - The satisfying texture and umami flavor make you want to keep chewing, especially when combined with the refreshing ponzu sauce.

The shop is located in a hidden place. The cozy counter on the first floor has a nice atmosphere. We had a meal and drinks on the second floor, and each dish was carefully made and delicious. The dishes that go well with alcohol are delicious, so it's a wonderful place where you can enjoy drinking alone or chatting with friends.

We visited this restaurant in Kyoto with two people. It is a Bib Gourmand selected by the Michelin Guide Kyoto. The restaurant is located in a Kyoto-like back alley, and we were a bit unsure if we were going the right way, but eventually found it across from Sakadokoro Terayama. We ordered a la carte dishes, starting with beer and sashimi of chicken, conger eel, and red snapper. We enjoyed choosing our next dishes while having these. We also ordered Japanese sake with boiled vegetables and corn tempura. The lineup of Japanese sake on the day we visited seemed to be mostly dry types. We then had mozuku seaweed and abalone oden, daikon radish, wild mountain vegetables, and tofu oden, along with different types of Japanese sake. For a refreshing finish, we had cucumber, myoga ginger, water eggplant, and conger eel salad with another serving of Japanese sake. Although the menu seemed limited, we were able to enjoy our sake with our favorite dashi and fish. Thank you very much.

There is a delicious restaurant located a little south of Fujii Daimaru in Tabiya-cho, where you can enjoy a variety of dishes. The place used to be called "Nikomi Suzuya" and has now opened as a new restaurant. It's interesting how the name of the station changed from Kawaramachi to Kyoto Kawaramachi on the Hankyu line. We started with a toast with beer and enjoyed the menu which includes classics like oden and sashimi, as well as seasonal recommendations. The potato salad was delicious, and the oden with daikon and burdock tempura was just right. The surprise came when we tried the egg, which was soft and gooey with a runny yolk. We couldn't resist ordering it individually with some dashi. The sake selection was also impressive, with options like Nara's Kimoto Doburo Nama and Tottori's Hiokizakura. We also enjoyed dishes like tender duck breast and finished with their famous curry rice. Despite the seemingly hidden location in a Kyoto alley, this cozy restaurant offers a casual and lively atmosphere where you can enjoy a variety of small dishes that change with the seasons. It's definitely a place worth revisiting. Cheers to a delicious meal!

I went to this restaurant after making a reservation in advance, as it was hard to visit independently. I found the entrance in the alley with a sign as a landmark. Across the street is a sake shop called Terayama. The counter seats have decreased, but there are more table seats now, including on the second floor. The menu has expanded to include Kyoto-style dishes and also meat dishes. It seems like they no longer have stew. It's a bit difficult to have a conversation with Mon-chan if you don't sit at the counter, but it still seems to be popular. I will visit again.

I was excited to visit the new restaurant opened by the former manager of Komisuzu. I made a reservation for the opening time and enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes until the end of my reservation. Everything was so tasty and the staff were all very kind. There are still more dishes I want to try, so I must visit again.

The restaurant is popular among young customers and has a casual dining atmosphere. The food is quite authentic, but some items may be a bit pricey, so the total bill can add up. It's a lively place with many regular customers, great for a casual and relaxed dining experience. The focus is more on enjoying the atmosphere rather than a formal meal. It seems to cater more towards a younger crowd. Ambiance: ★★☆☆☆ Situation: Dining alone or with friends Observations: Casual atmosphere with many regular customers. Food service may be slow when busy. - Nukazuke (pickled vegetables): Tangy and flavorful - Dashimaki (rolled omelette): Delicious - Grilled oysters with kelp: Plump and juicy - Duck breast: Tasty - Octopus and green onion skewers: Excellent - Tamago (egg) x2: Perfectly cooked and delicious - Tofu - Fried chicken - Konjac (yam cake) - Shumai (dumplings) - Bottled sake (4 servings)

Before the store opening, in the late afternoon, I happened to meet the owner outside and greeted him. We both had a moment of recognition. It turns out that he used to be the owner of "Nikomizuru" before becoming independent last year. It was a pleasant surprise to see him again after so long! The restaurant is located within walking distance from Shijo Kawaramachi, tucked away in a quiet corner that you might miss if you didn't know it was there. It's across from "Shokudo Terayama," which might help people locate it. The first floor has 4 counter seats and a few tables, and I believe there are also seats on the second floor. The menu includes sashimi (sea bream, saury), fried small potatoes with crab miso sauce, duck with sansho pepper sauce, deep-fried squid, potato salad, rolled omelet, oden (beef tendon, shumai), and ramen. They offer a variety of sake, with over 10 types available, including chilled and hot sake sourced from several liquor stores (including Sakaya Yamamoto). I enjoyed dishes like the fried small potatoes and duck with sansho pepper sauce. The food was delicious and the value for money was great. I had a generous amount of food and drinks for around 10,000 yen, with change left over. The restaurant is a great place to enjoy tasty dishes with a nice selection of sake. I will definitely be back for more! Congratulations on receiving the Michelin Bib Gourmand award!

On the east side of Takashimaya, if you go down a narrow street from Teramachi and squeeze between the building wall and a thin electric pole, you will find this shop. "Uri" is a place for drinks and meals. I checked it out in the latest issue of meets. Opposite, there is Terayama, a famous shop that has moved from Pontocho. It's a small detached house. When you peek inside, you'll see a counter with 5 seats and one table. Luckily, there were 2 seats available at the counter, so we managed to get in. They have a blackboard menu and a small table menu. Unfortunately, the sweet sea bream salt-grilled dish was sold out. But they had a sashimi platter with sweet sea bream, needlefish, and young bonito. The sweet sea bream was surprisingly sweet and delicious! I highly recommend the flying fish fry dish. It comes with a slightly sweet sauce and sansho pepper. The chef here is really skilled. We also tried the potato salad and oden. They have a large oden pot, so the oden here must be popular. It had konjac, shirataki noodles, daikon radish, and thick-fried tofu. The flavors were rich and comforting, perfect for winter. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time as we finished work, so we left for Osaka before 11 pm.

Tonight, I visited the restaurant "Uri" that I saw on Leaf. The restaurant seems to have opened last year. To get there, you need to walk a little west from the Anekoji Street and Miyukimachi Street intersection, then turn south into a narrow alleyway. Look for the lantern as a landmark. It has a cozy, hidden feel that is quite exciting. I had called ahead, so I was able to smoothly get a table, but the place was fully booked. The interior has a counter with 5 seats and 2 small tables for two. There is also a second floor, but I didn't confirm it. The seating is quite intimate. This time, I opted for a table seat. The friendly couple who run the place seem to be managing it. The atmosphere is great. I started with a draft beer (Kirin Lager ¥550) and looked at the menu. I ordered the following dishes: - Potato Salad ¥400: A classic with a gentle sweetness that I really liked. - Oden: Egg ¥150, Gobo Tempura ¥250, Shumai ¥250, Chikuwa ¥150, Daikon ¥200: A clear, light broth with no strong flavors. The half-boiled egg was particularly good. - Sashimi: Tai (sea bream) and Uni (sea urchin) (market price): The sea bream recommended by the owner was excellent. - Aji (horse mackerel) Namero ¥950: Fresh horse mackerel cut into chunks. A bit pricey but worth it. - Squid Tempura ¥700: Large, fresh squid tempura with a nice texture and great with French salt. - Mino (beef stomach) Yudofu (tofu hot pot) ¥600: Light and flavorful with a great texture. I had to order more. - Namako (sea cucumber) with liver sauce ¥800: Thick slices of chewy sea cucumber. - Nukazuke (rice bran pickles) ¥350: A selection of 3 types, perfect as a sake accompaniment. - Beef Sinew Curry Rice ¥400: Tender beef sinew in a rich curry, a perfect ending to the meal. I found a great restaurant! The quality of the ingredients, the broth, and the service were all fantastic. I will definitely be coming back. I'm curious to try more next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal! Photo: EOS9000D

This is a Japanese restaurant located in a narrow alley off Ayanokoji Street. It has a small sign and is a quiet little place. Across the street is the new location of Terayama. The first floor has counter seats and small tables. There are also tables on the second floor, but they were not in use during my visit. The menu consists of oden and Japanese cuisine, with a variety of sake available. The dishes include oden (eggs, daikon, beef tendon), sashimi (bonito, shrimp, horse mackerel), grilled sea bream with salt, fried small potatoes, crab in sauce, grilled chicken thighs with salt, oden curry rice, and Chinese noodles in oden broth. All the dishes are delicious! The oden broth is light and elegant. The eggs served in a small dedicated dish are perfectly half-cooked, with the yolk flowing out beautifully when cracked. I particularly enjoyed the fried small potatoes and the fluffy grilled sea bream with salt. The curry rice, a favorite menu item also available at the previous Nekomi Suzuya, is outstanding with a flavorful broth and tender ingredients. The Chinese noodles in oden broth were also delicious. This has become my favorite restaurant, and I would love to visit again even outside the oden season.
