Located a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Station, this traditional Japanese izakaya is perfect for large groups. We made a reservation on the same day for a work trip and were seated in a private tatami room upon arrival. The atmosphere is very calming and ideal for a leisurely meal. The menu includes dishes like fried chicken, rolled omelette, and potato salad, with the option of ordering all-you-can-drink even for a la carte orders. The food is decent, nothing extraordinary, but enjoyable. The ease of getting a table and the reasonable prices make this izakaya a great choice for a fun night out with friends. Thank you for the meal! ✨

This time, I was taken to Sugiura, a creative private room izakaya in Kyoto by my friends. With the growing concern about the coronavirus, we made a reservation at this restaurant. Every dish we tried was delicious, but the portions were quite large. The sashimi platter with 9 different types was meticulously prepared with no shortcuts taken. Despite the generous portions, the food was tasty and satisfying. I highly recommend young people to give it a try.

It's in Kyoto, near JR Kyoto Station, around the back of Kyoto Tower. The restaurant is on the second floor, with the first floor being a okonomiyaki restaurant. I visited for lunch after a long time in this area. This is an indoor smoking allowed restaurant, so smokers often choose to come here for lunch. While there are other smoking allowed restaurants in the area, they mostly have outdoor terrace seating which can be tough in the cold Kyoto weather. I climbed the outdoor stairs to the second floor, paid at the entrance, took off my shoes, and was guided to a private room. There were cups and a pot on the table, so I made my own tea and waited for about 7-8 minutes. The rice and side dishes in Matsuhana pottery were served first. The taste was average. However, I was surprised by the udon that was brought later. It was udon topped with chicken and tofu in egg sauce, but it felt like leftovers were just put on top. The taste was rushed and not well-made, and I felt it didn't go well with the udon. I usually don't leave much food uneaten, but this time I left quite a bit.

Located near Kyoto Station and Kyoto Tower, this Japanese-style izakaya inside Station Seryo seemed to attract a lot of people, especially those coming after work or younger crowds. We ordered a few dishes from the menu to enjoy with our drinks. Overall, the food was decent, but one highlight was the ramen we had as a finale. The noodles and soup were average, but the chashu (sliced pork) was delicious.

We had a very pleasant gathering after 10 years with close friends, teachers, and colleagues from school. It was difficult to find a restaurant that could accommodate all 15 of us in a private room. The food was plentiful and included all-you-can-drink for about 3 and a half hours. I think it's a great place for large groups.

On this day, the fried Spanish mackerel was freshly fried and delicious! The sashimi was just average.

We are grateful for the unlimited drink time at the annual May alumni association meeting. The quality of the food is also good, giving the impression that they have a strong commitment to excellence. Personally, I highly recommend the firm and delicious hot pot ramen as a closing dish. The staff's service is also excellent.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. You can eat and drink a lot without spending over 5000 yen. The best part is that the food comes out incredibly fast after ordering, which is amazing.

In the annoying rainy weather, I went to a Japanese restaurant called Sugiura-san with an annoying middle-aged man. We were led to a private room, but I had a feeling that the neighboring party would get noisy with just a single sliding door separating us, so I requested to change seats. It turns out the party would start at 8 PM, so we decided to finish our drinks before then. We started with the recommended sashimi, and today's recommendation was Hiramasa, along with tuna. The slices were thick and delicious! Next, we ordered the classic dashimaki tamago. It was okay. The croquettes with Kujo green onions and small taro were tasty as expected. Still feeling a bit hungry, we ordered more dishes! The Sugiura specialty, beef tongue with wasabi and eggplant gyoza, was amazing. The beef tongue was tender and flavorful, and the eggplant gyoza was unique and seemed healthy. We also tried rare Yamazaki highball, barrel-aged sparkling wine, chilled sake, and had a variety of drinks. Finally, we ended the meal with Sugiura's famous seafood ramen. We made sure to leave within 2 hours.

In front of JR Kyoto Station, there is a street just off the main street leading to Kyoto Tower where this restaurant is located. I visited after a long time as I had work nearby. Upon entering the restaurant, a lovely smiling lady escorted me to a private room. As soon as I sat down, lunch was served automatically. However, the curry udon was quite cold. The rice came with plenty of side dishes. The portion size was good, and the fried food was barely warm, possibly pre-made. Timing seems to be important for getting something warm to eat. With the number of seats they have, it may be understandable. I wished the soup was at least warm. Also, it seemed like the prices had increased a bit since my last visit.

Located on the north side of Kyoto Station, near Yodobashi Camera, this restaurant is situated on the second floor of a building slightly off the beaten path with fewer people passing by. I visited during lunchtime while working nearby. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a cheerful staff member who promptly attended to me. The service was efficient and pleasant. I was seated in a tatami room and immediately served with a hot towel and tea. Within a few minutes, a tray with four side dishes, rice, and soup pasta was brought to me in a bustling manner. The taste of the dishes was decent, nothing particularly outstanding but still enjoyable. The mushroom soup pasta was also average. However, compared to my previous visit, it seemed like the portion size had slightly decreased. The quick service may be convenient for those in a hurry, so I might consider returning if I'm pressed for time. Overall, it was a bit of a mixed experience.

During lunchtime, I went to Biling in Yodobashi, just a little west of the station. You have to take off your shoes to go up to the 2nd floor. They only offer one daily special for lunch, and you can choose to add coffee or not. The service is quite quick, so it's good for when you're in a hurry. On this day, they had pork udon, yellowtail sashimi, tofu salad, and chicken skewers. The portions seemed decent, but if you want extra rice, the side dishes are a bit small. The pork udon had a good amount, and the chicken skewers were freshly fried, which was nice. When I visited, there were quite a few smokers, so it was a bit smoky.

I visited for lunch. I really like the chain of this restaurant and often have dinner here when I come to Kyoto. This was my first time at this branch, so the location was a bit hard to find. It was a bit confusing walking from Shijo area, but it's easy to find from Kyoto Station haha. There was only one lunch option, and the daily lunch menu was written on a blackboard in front of the store. When you enter, they ask if you prefer a non-smoking or smoking seat. The separation is quite helpful. The food is served right away once you're seated, kind of like a school lunch haha but of course, the dishes are for adults! Today's lunch was cold soba, ginger pork, yellowtail sashimi, addictive cucumber pickles, and rice. It said yellowtail sashimi, but maybe they ran out? I think it was actually Thai haha. It would have been nice to have a bit more guidance. It's not fancy for a business lunch, but since the menu changes daily, it seems like you can go every day without any problems!

I visited a restaurant for dinner on the weekend. The restaurant is located behind Kyoto Tower, so the location is quite easy to find. We sat in a semi-private sunken kotatsu seat. It was just the two of us this day, but the restaurant seemed suitable for larger gatherings as well. We started with a toast with draft beer and shochu highball. For food, we chose recommended dishes. We ordered tuna sashimi, scallop salad, beef tongue with wasabi, mozuku tempura, and grilled salmon belly with wasabi butter. The tuna was delicious as usual. The scallop salad was an interesting dish with both grilled and raw scallops. The grilled scallop had a nice charred surface which was tasty. The beef tongue with wasabi is apparently a specialty of the restaurant. It was tender and impressive, although the surface seemed slightly burnt this time. The mozuku tempura was surprisingly voluminous and crispy, served with pickled ginger as a nice touch. It was difficult to imagine making tempura like this at home. We enjoyed it with salt and tempura dipping sauce. Feeling like we could eat more, we added the grilled salmon belly with wasabi. It was a stir-fry dish with wasabi, but the richness of the belly overshadowed the wasabi flavor. The restaurant offers a wide variety of food and drink options. The manager even escorted us to the exit when we left. It can be challenging to choose an izakaya near Kyoto Station, but I'm glad we found this place.

Located on the north side of Kyoto Station, right behind the New Hankyu Hotel, I found this restaurant. I was taken there by local staff and was expecting to visit the okonomiyaki restaurant on the first floor. However, I was led up the stairs to the second floor, to what seemed like a banquet hall. I sat down in a private room and was contemplating which lunch option to choose when suddenly, a variety of dishes were brought to me as part of their lunch set. The lunch had a good amount of food and I was quite satisfied. While the taste was not exceptional, it was still delicious. If I have work in this area again, I would definitely like to visit this restaurant.

Later, I went to have lunch at "Sugihara Kyoto Ekimae Store" near Yodobashi Camera Kyoto. You can go up to the 2nd floor using the stairs from the front. When I entered the store, the staff welcomed me with a smile. This is the basic of a thriving restaurant. I was guided to a sunken kotatsu seat and ordered the daily lunch set. In less than 5 minutes after ordering, the food arrived. For busy salarymen, this speed of service is truly delightful. The restaurant transforms into a Japanese-style izakaya at night, so the atmosphere is calm with a hint of Japanese aesthetics. My junior colleagues and I were very satisfied. A Japanese lunch set for only 820 yen!! The cost performance is amazing!! This restaurant excels in all aspects. I look forward to visiting again at night next time.

I wandered around near Kyoto Station thinking, "I want to eat a lot." I visited this place at night before, but I wondered if they were open for lunch. They only had one lunch option for around 800 yen. It was a huge portion and I was completely full. It also came with a small serving of sashimi, which was delicious. I recommend this place for both lunch and dinner. They have private rooms and the atmosphere is cozy. If you want to eat a lot, I highly recommend this place.

Location of the restaurant: The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building behind the New Hankyu Hotel in front of Kyoto Station. Atmosphere of the restaurant: There are several spacious private rooms, and we were also guided to a large table comfortably. It was a room suitable for banquets. Service: The staff were friendly, but we had trouble with the food taking a long time to come out. We were served white rice first and had to stare at it for a while. By the time the side dishes arrived, the steam from the rice had completely disappeared. Food: There were many dishes and each one was decently tasty. There was nothing particularly outstanding, but the portion size was sufficient for the price. The presentation of the dishes was also beautiful. Overall: The timing of the food coming out may vary, but that was the only disappointing aspect.

On July 27, 2015, I ordered two small beers for 400 yen each, eggplant dumplings for 540 yen, special mini ramen for 660 yen, and fresh yuba with spring vegetables for 400 yen. The total bill came to 2,730 yen.
