The reviews on Tabelog are few, but the Google Maps rating is extremely high. Located in the old-fashioned streets of Uzumasa-cho, Kameoka City, this quaint Japanese confectionery shop is a hidden gem. My husband and I visited just before noon. There was one group of three customers already there, and two more groups of three arrived later. The red beans used in their sweets are of the highest quality, known as Tamba Dainagon beans. These large, sweet beans with a rich aroma were even offered to the imperial court in the Heian period. In the Uzumasa area, the clear water flowing from Izumo Shrine, underground water, and deep fog create ideal conditions for cultivation. The beans grown here are even larger than Tamba Dainagon beans, known as "Uzumasa Dainagon." I purchased 3 Tamba Dainagon manju, 5 warabi mochi, 3 daifuku, and 2 soft serves, a popular summer treat with a long, high swirl. The staff, a lovely older lady, even gave me a lunch pack as a bonus when handing over my order. I enjoyed the soft serve outside the shop right away, had the lunch pack in the car, and shared the rest with my child at home. The red bean paste was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was delicious and heartwarming. Truly a popular local spot, known to attract tourists as well. There are parking spaces for 3 cars, and a bus stop is conveniently close by.

A shop located in a residential area a short walk from Chiyogawa Station, across the river. There is a parking lot a little further away. This shop sells traditional Japanese sweets and snacks, but their soft serve ice cream, shown in the photo, is famous in my area. It is popular, so there may be lines in the summer. I was satisfied with its perfect softness.

I ate delicious Kameoka beef in Kameoka and then came to Asahido, a popular spot on Google Maps. The soft serve ice cream was pretty good, but the real highlight was the salted rice cake and manju! The texture of the skin and the sweet bean paste inside were amazing, especially for those who love sweet bean paste. With three parking lots, you can tell this place is really popular. It seems rare to find such a large parking area around here. That's why, despite not selling online, these salted rice cakes and manju are definitely worth the trip to this parking lot! It's a bit far, but highly recommended!

I received a souvenir from Kameoka, a "warabi mochi" from Asahido in Kameoka City. Visually, it looks more like "yomogi mochi" than warabi mochi. It seems to be a traditional shop run by a couple. The "warabi mochi" costs 100 yen each and is considered a hidden gem. When you split it from the center, it has a combination of warabi mochi and smooth red bean paste inside. The texture is like mochi with red bean paste filling. It was delicious with a new and enjoyable texture. The size is like a small mochi, making it a perfect snack.
