I used to think that there were many traditional Japanese restaurants in Kyoto, but there are actually a lot of meat restaurants! In the competitive meat district of Kyoto, I visited a restaurant that caught my attention. I went to Charcoal Steak Sakai (*^^*) It is just a short walk from Kyoto Karasuma Station Exit 6. It is also within walking distance from Keihan Sanjo, making it easily accessible. The restaurant has a sophisticated Japanese-style appearance, but once you enter, the interior has a modern touch and a very calm atmosphere. As soon as you enter, you see a glass case with chunks of meat inside!! Looks delicious (^∇^) lol There are counter seats in the front of the restaurant and table seats in the back. It was just the two of us that day. We were guided to the counter seats. There were many foreign customers, and one group mentioned that they had heard about the restaurant from a friend who had visited Japan before. Charcoal Steak Sakai is famous even overseas! (*^▽^*) It seems that the combination of a steak restaurant with a Japanese-style touch is popular. Since you've come all the way to Kyoto, you probably want to have a meal in a Japanese atmosphere. That day, we had the Charcoal-grilled Wagyu Beef Dinner Course Sakai ¥11800, which is the middle course in the dinner menu. You can choose between sirloin and fillet as the main dish. The course includes 150g of each type of meat. We ordered one sirloin and one fillet. Since we were at the counter, chatting with the friendly owner was enjoyable (*^^*) First, they showed us the meat we would be having today. Looks delicious~(^∇^) While they were preparing the meat, we were served: ☆Appetizer It is brought in a black box with the Sakai logo in gold on the lid. It feels like they are welcoming us. When you open it, there are three small dishes: abalone, sweet shrimp and seafood, and fillet as the appetizer. ・Abalone with daikon The abalone is very tender. The dashi-based sauce is elegant. ・Shira-ae, sweet shrimp Shira-ae has crunchy lotus root. ・Fillet meat A fusion dish with cream cheese and Kinzanji miso. ☆Wagyu Beef Sashimi Style The meat, cooked at 56°C for two hours, has a beautiful pink color. It is served with garlic soy sauce. The meat is not melt-in-your-mouth, but has a slight bounce to it, and it is exquisite. ☆Homemade Pumpkin Soup Creamy pumpkin soup, smooth and velvety. The orange soup in a white bowl looks very appealing. ☆Plentiful Vegetable Salad Served with homemade dressing. ☆Fillet, Sirloin The meat is lightly seared, and then you can grill it to your liking over charcoal! It's nice to be able to cook it to your preferred doneness. You can try lightly searing it, grilling it well, and enjoy the different flavors based on how you cook it. The slowly grilled meat over binchotan charcoal is tender and juicy. There are various condiments such as wasabi, salt, soy sauce with mustard seeds, Yamagata's herb soy sauce, white miso ponzu, and meat juice. The juicy sirloin and tender fillet were surprisingly delicious! Both meats had a good bounce and were juicy. The mustard has a mellow flavor without being too sharp. The slightly sweet white miso ponzu is also recommended. ☆Rice Dish Meat sushi topped with sea urchin and truffles!! A luxurious finish to the course. Drizzle truffle soy sauce on top. At the end of the course, we were quite full, but the rice was light and the meat sushi with sea urchin and truffles was surprisingly easy to eat, not heavy at all, and we couldn't help but enjoy it (^∇^) The combination of rich sea urchin and the aroma of truffles in the rice dish was delicious. ☆Dessert Homemade Ice Cream Matcha and white chocolate baked goods Seasonal fruits persimmon A dessert that combines the seasonal feel with matcha to give a Kyoto-like taste. We enjoyed it until the end!! The Sakai course is easy to eat even for women. There is also the Karasuma course with less meat, but it does not include the Wagyu beef sashimi style... You can also order items a la carte, so I highly recommend trying it out! That's my recommendation (*^^*) lol From affordable wines to high-end wines,
