For lunch, Uji Kogura on Yamane Street is located at the eastern end, near the Nara Highway. When you enter through the curtain, you will be welcomed by a clean interior and a friendly chef. The recommended lunch here is a set menu for 1500 yen (excluding tax) which includes daily nigiri and rolled sushi, a selection of battera sushi, a choice of tamagoyaki, tempura, or chawanmushi, and miso soup. The sushi was really delicious with tasty rice, pickled ginger, soy sauce, and more. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I had a delivery meal from this restaurant. They offer set menus ranging from 6000 yen to 15000 yen, but they are willing to accommodate your budget if you let them know (within reason). They also offer other options like Makunouchi starting from 2500 yen, eel rice bowl for 1200 yen, and a variety of sushi. The sashimi was fresh and thick, while the miso-grilled fish was rich and tender. The clear soup had a light and delicious flavor. The restaurant has a counter, tables, and a small tatami area at the back. I noticed a take-out section next to the kitchen where they sell grilled fish, rolled omelette, and sushi rolls.

I heard that this restaurant has been around for a long time and they also run a fish market next door, so my expectations for the ingredients were high. The interior of the restaurant was very clean and well-organized, with a nice atmosphere created by the background music of a koto. I sat at the counter and started with a beer. I ordered the following dishes: sashimi of striped jack, which was very fresh with minimal fishy taste, served in a beautiful and elegant dish that almost overshadowed the fish; grilled Pacific saury, which was around 40cm long, perfectly seasoned and cooked, and indeed delicious; and then I ordered some cold sake to go with a selection of appetizers: boiled clam, pregnant sweetfish, pickled plum, and pickled myoga (Japanese ginger), all of which highlighted the natural flavors and textures of the ingredients. Next, I had a rolled omelette, which was a bit too soft but tasty, although I was disappointed that myoga was served again. In terms of food quality, this restaurant is highly recommended locally, but they don't offer much in terms of service unless you call for it, and the loud laughter coming from the kitchen in an otherwise quiet restaurant was a bit distracting.
