The traditional Japanese restaurant my friend frequents. It had been a while since I had such a good meal. Although I had heard about the somewhat pricey menu, once I saw the delicious ingredients in front of me, I couldn't help but order. The refined taste and the use of high-quality ingredients truly impressed me. I felt grateful for my friend who can go to such places alone, and I thought I might want to go with them again next time.

Located a little away from Kiyamachi Gojo, this restaurant is away from the hustle and bustle of Gion, offering a relaxed atmosphere and reasonably priced meals. The private rooms with a view of the garden are soothing. The course mainly focused on seafood, and the hairy crab was particularly delicious. Overall, the meal was faithful and well-executed, without any extravagance. It may not be flashy, but it was a sincere course that reflected the quality of ingredients and skills. Thank you for the meal.

I tried the course menu at this restaurant for 12,000 yen, as I wanted to get a feel for the food. I was concerned about the dining environment, so I inquired and was told that the counter seats are spaced out a bit (without acrylic boards). To be safe, I decided to reserve a private room towards the back. The food reminded me somewhat of the chef's hometown, Yamasan. It had a rather hearty feel. I would have preferred a different soup and a non-white rice option for the final dish. The atmosphere was lively with many customers. They had pre-set ice and water at the tatami seating, and the staff were efficient. The menu included mozuku seaweed, young ayu tempura, octopus with vinegar, and broad beans, among other dishes. The dessert was pine nut jelly, and I also had two beers for 700 yen.

I enjoyed the best flavors, including conger eel, on the summer menu. I heard that if you offer the ingredients you want in advance, they can prepare an original menu for you. It's a wonderful restaurant that makes you want to keep coming back. Geisha and maiko are also said to visit.

Before going to the beer garden in Miyagawacho, recommended by a friend from Kyoto, we visited this restaurant. We stopped by Matsuo for some appetizers. We had: - Assorted appetizers - Recommended sashimi platter - Lotus root cake - Corn tempura - Simmered thousand-leaf eggplant - Plum wine - Beer The sashimi was fresh and delicious, just as the chef had said. The conger eel dish was also very tasty. The tempura corn was exceptionally sweet and delicious. The simmered thousand-leaf eggplant had the authentic Kyoto flavor. Overall, it was a delightful experience and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

We used this place for a late dinner in Kyoto. It's a bit inconvenient location-wise, but there aren't many Japanese restaurants open late, so it's a convenient option. We didn't have much information beforehand, but the atmosphere was surprisingly casual and welcoming. It was a bit lively, maybe because it was late, with some people using it for a second round. The restaurant is bigger than expected. We opted for the chef's choice set menu, which included a variety of dishes like appetizers, sashimi, grilled fish, and dessert. The ingredients were decent, nothing outstanding but all tasty. Overall, there wasn't anything particularly noteworthy, good or bad, which is why I can't seem to remember much about it. So, I'll wrap it up here.

Last night, I had a great meal with a business partner. The bonito sashimi was excellent. The loach hot pot had a rich broth and was delicious. The small fish was a rare ingredient caught in Lake Biwa. It was mild but flavorful. Thank you for the feast! ♫

I was taken to this tea house by the mothers in the neighborhood for the first time. I didn't know there was such a delicious restaurant near my house! You can eat proper Japanese food here! The taste is also good. The chef is still young but very impressive. I think there are private rooms in the back as well.

I had the set course at the counter. I visited the tea house and had a great time. This is the true taste of Kyoto! The appetizers were delicious and beautiful. The chef was friendly and talked to us. The young chefs worked efficiently and left a good impression. I would love to visit this restaurant again!

I visited for the first time last November. The restaurant was full, but the staff kindly let me wait for 30 minutes and I was able to have a meal at the counter. The food was fantastic, especially the flatfish. The dessert with fruits was also amazing. The simmered dish had a Kyoto-style seasoning, light in color but rich in flavor. It was a truly moving experience that you can't find in the Kanto region. I revisited last weekend and enjoyed the taste of Kyoto once again. It was a night where you could feel not only the flavors of Kyoto but also its heart. I will definitely go back again. (^^)

It's been a long time since December 2014. Matsuo-san has really settled in this place. Thanks to the guidance of the mothers in Miyagawa-cho, the restaurant has become even better. I really like the flexible Kappo style. The appetizers were great, especially the simmered halibut roe. The tiger fish sashimi was also delicious. The grilled fugu and fried tiger fish were excellent. This place is my favorite in the neighborhood.

I learned about this restaurant from an article in the magazine FRuA Kyoto. When I searched for reviews, I found that the reviewer Shirokami-sama also visited the restaurant. We made a reservation for 5:00 pm on the last day of our Kyoto trip. It was an early dinner time for us, so we decided to order a la carte at the counter seats. The temperature in Kyoto that day exceeded 33°C, truly a hot summer day. My husband was feeling quite unwell due to last night's drinking and the heat, and the owner of the restaurant immediately noticed. I felt really sorry for causing them trouble. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a large counter made of white wood. The seats were spacious and comfortable, creating a calming atmosphere. Although there were no other customers when we arrived, the place quickly filled up with local regulars. There were also tatami rooms at the back of the counter. Inside the counter, there was a live fish tank, and you could even consult on cooking methods while watching the fish swim. The menu had a wide variety of seafood options and cooking methods. We ordered sashimi, including abalone and the owner's recommended horse mackerel. The freshness of the seafood, which was prepared right after being taken out of the tank, was outstanding! The chewy texture of the abalone and the flavor of the simmered rockfish were particularly delightful. The time between ordering and serving was a bit long because the dishes were cooked upon order. The grilled young ayu was delicious, as always when visiting Kyoto in this season. The grilled rock oysters were creamy and delicious. Finally, we had cherries and makuwauri for dessert. The owner and the staff were all very kind and provided attentive service, making it a pleasant experience even for first-time visitors. This restaurant is highly recommended for those who want to enjoy a variety of delicious seafood dishes. As the last entry is until 11:00 pm, it is also attractive for travelers arriving in Kyoto on a late Shinkansen. However, I felt that the non-seafood menu options were limited, and even when available, they were a bit pricey. Perhaps it would be better to opt for a course meal and take your time to enjoy the food. I would like to visit this restaurant again when I am feeling better. Thank you for the meal! Now, we still have an hour and a half until our Shinkansen departure from Kyoto Station. Two more stops to go inside the station... It's been a greedy Kyoto trip until the end (laughs).

It has been six months since my last visit. I visited Kobayashi Sake Brewery in Tochigi Prefecture for their "Houou Bida" sake, and Tsuchiya Sake Brewery in Nagano Prefecture for their "Akane Sasu" sake. We had dishes like cold yellowtail with grated mountain yam, fresh oysters, teppai (seafood dish), simmered bamboo shoots, and mozuku seaweed rice porridge. The mackerel sushi was a bit smaller than before, but the presentation of the yellowtail was more elaborate. The chef and four other staff members worked efficiently, creating a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. Next, we visited "Matsuoka" which opened in April 26, 2012, near Kennin-ji Temple, between Gion Yamato Oji Street and Gion Miyagawa-cho Street. The chef trained for eight years at places like Kobe, Osaka, and "Yamashita" in Kiyamachi before opening this restaurant. The course menu and a la carte options are available. The interior of the restaurant, which is a renovated machiya townhouse, exudes a calm atmosphere. We enjoyed dishes like sashimi of red sea bream, flounder sashimi, tempura of wild vegetables, simmered young bamboo shoots, simmered clams, and mackerel sushi. The dishes exceeded our expectations, although the service was a bit slow due to only two chefs working. Overall, the food was delicious and the ambiance was pleasant. I rated it 3.5 because the dishes were served a bit slowly, but I believe this issue will be resolved soon, and I look forward to giving it a 4 rating on my next visit.

I had the opportunity to go to Kyoto in the weekend for some business in the afternoon, so I decided to have dinner and make my debut at "Solo Kaiseki @ Kyoto". This restaurant was recommended in a fashion magazine I saw a few weeks ago, and I made a note of it. It was my first time in the area of Shimizu Gojo, which is a quiet neighborhood compared to the hustle and bustle of Gion and Kawaramachi. I opted for the 10,000 yen chef's choice menu. When I made the reservation, I was asked if there was anything specific I wanted to eat, and I mentioned that I wanted to try oysters, which I hadn't had much of this year. On the day of my visit, I was asked how I wanted the oysters prepared, but I couldn't decide, so I ended up leaving it up to the chef. The meal included: - Appetizers: String beans and carrots mixed with sesame, tuna and konjac simmered in sake, and Matsuba crab. - Fugu sashimi: The fugu was firm and had a sharp, delicate flavor. - Hamaguri shinjo soup: A gentle and comforting soup made with clams. - Sashimi: A well-balanced assortment of fresh fish. - Grilled octopus and vegetables: The octopus was delicious and paired perfectly with the sake. - Grilled oysters and fugu: Simply exquisite. - Steamed turnip: A beautiful and delicious dish. - Oyster hot pot: A surprising and unforgettable dish with large, tender oysters. - Sweet shrimp tempura: Crispy and delicate. - Rice dishes: Red miso soup, tai fish, and pickles. - Dessert: Setoka fruit, a refreshing and delightful treat. Overall, the meal was a delightful experience with each dish being beautifully presented and delicious.

Yamashita-san has been training for many years at Koya Yamachaya and opened his own restaurant in April after Gion Miyagawacho's Goryotei Kawasan. The restaurant has a luxurious feel and a beautiful interior. Like at Yamashita, you can choose from course meals or order a la carte. I decided to order a la carte without hesitation. We had dishes like whelk and rock oyster soup, sashimi, striped jack, flatfish, conger eel, grilled sweetfish, grilled conger eel with miso, deep-fried Kamo eggplant, simmered sea bream head, turban shell with green onions, simmered eel, marugama pot, and conger eel sushi. Everything was delicious. Since the restaurant had just opened, it felt a bit unsettled, but the foundation of the cuisine is solid, so I have a feeling it will become an even better restaurant in the future. I would like to visit again.
