Today, I visited a restaurant called "Haru" near JR "Joyo" Station. The sign indicated that they specialize in udon and rice bowl dishes, which is right up my alley. Initially, I thought about getting the parent and child rice bowl set for ¥680, but then I saw the most popular menu item at the bottom of the board - the "Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl" for ¥780, and decided to go with that. Inside the restaurant, there were 4 counter seats and 3 tables, with three staff members - an older lady, a young man, and a young woman - in the kitchen. The walls were covered with autographed posters of Kyoto Sanga players. Despite Kyoto Sanga FC's relegation to J2 this season due to poor performance, the "Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl" that I ordered seems to be a favorite among the players. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes - a plate of chicken and egg, a side of fried tofu in broth, a small udon, rice, and pickles. The chicken and egg dish looked delicious with a subtle sweetness from the broth and a rich flavor from the chicken. The chicken was so good that even when poured over the rice, it was still delicious, almost like a chicken rice bowl. The udon was simple but served its purpose as a soup substitute, with thin, curly noodles and flavorful broth. The fried tofu side dish was warm and decent. The rice was cooked well and tasted good. Overall, the cost-performance ratio was decent, the taste was slightly above average, and the service and atmosphere were average. I would rate it 3.5 stars out of 5 (74/100).
