When? Weekday around 12:30
With whom? Alone
When in the mood for curry around Kawaramachi area, Yak & Yeti is the go-to place. However, feeling like trying out a new restaurant, I visited here for the first time. I had passed by many times before, but since it's underground, I couldn't see inside and hesitated to enter alone. With a little nervousness, I went down the stairs and opened the door. During lunchtime visit, there were 2 groups of customers. Bollywood dance music videos were playing, creating a bright atmosphere in the restaurant. Among the lunch menu options, I chose a set that includes a choice of two curries and tandoori chicken. Most curry places usually offer chicken, vegetable, keema, and a daily special, but here they have a wide variety. It's great because you won't get tired of coming here often. That being said, I chose vegetable and keema. I don't take risks at new restaurants. (laughs) When asked if I wanted naan or rice, I chose naan, of course. Either way, it's all-you-can-eat. It seemed that a drink was also included, so I had lassi. Shortly after ordering, salad and soup were served. The soup was served in a large pot, which would be pleasing for soup lovers. I, however, don't like this kind of soup served in Indian restaurants, so I just took a small taste. Hmm, I still don't like it. The salad had little dressing and was not very satisfying. I tried to eat it to get some vegetables. Not only here, but I rarely find Indian restaurant salads satisfying. A few minutes later, the curry & tandoori chicken with naan and lassi arrived. The vegetable and keema curries looked similar in appearance. And when I tasted them, there wasn't much difference. The vegetable curry was slightly less spicy. The keema curry was also not very spicy. I noticed that the man next to me got bean curry and spinach keema, and he added a lot of spicy seasoning on the table. It seemed like it would get very spicy (^_^) The tandoori chicken was beautifully grilled and delicious. There was a gap between appearance and taste, as the use of spices was quite restrained. The naan seemed to have less flour per piece, probably because it was all-you-can-eat, giving it a thinner texture. The size was good, but it was lightly baked. Therefore, the chewiness was moderate. Most customers chose naan over rice and were having seconds. Since the additional naan was pre-cut, I also added a slice. It was hotter and had a crispy texture compared to the first one. I enjoyed it. I think it would be better if both naan and rice were included instead of just naan being all-you-can-eat. It was delicious, but when it comes to curry in this area, I would probably still choose my usual place.
