Kanjiro Shokudo is located below Jitsugyo High School. I heard they opened a new branch in Higashi-Takasuzu, so I decided to check it out. The location on Tabelog's map was completely wrong, so I ended up being led to a different place by the navigation system. It was quite far, and for some reason, it was showing the map for Kinsei-cho. Even though I reported the error, it hasn't been corrected yet. Eventually, I realized I was in the wrong place. Due to this confusion, it took quite a while to reach the actual location.
There is a large sign outside displaying the menu items. If you plan to visit, it might be a good idea to decide on your order before entering. I made the mistake of not looking at the menu and just went inside. The takeaway menu includes yakitori. Items with a takeaway mark are available for takeout. It seems like you can only take out ramen and a few other items.
Inside, there is only one female staff member, so if three groups enter at the same time, there might be a bit of a wait. If you are in a hurry, it's best to call ahead. Upon entering, you can place your order and pay immediately. The menu is displayed near the entrance, but I couldn't find a comprehensive list, so I was a bit confused. If someone enters from behind while you are still deciding, it could get a bit awkward.
The drinks are self-service and you can have as much as you want. There are seven buttons, but only five types of drinks available – cola, orange, oolong tea, green tea, and water. The seating consists of four table seats and a counter with space for 3-4 people. There is also a raised area where you can sit, but the presence of a large TV makes it less conducive for dining.
I tried the Yukke Ramen for 680 yen. The soup was sweet with a hint of spiciness. The toppings included three slices of chashu, menma, green onions, and spinach. The chashu was a bit dry, but some may like that texture. The noodles were straight and slightly firm, with a good balance of the sweet and spicy soup.
I also had the Kanjiro Katsu Curry for 680 yen. The curry was not too spicy, and the size of the katsu was quite large. The meat was a bit tough, similar to supermarket pork cutlets. The curry was served with shredded cabbage on the side, and I prefer when the curry sauce is poured over the meat. Overall, the curry was mildly spicy and slightly sweet.
In conclusion, the experience at Kanjiro Shokudo was a bit confusing due to the incorrect map location, but the food was decent and reasonably priced.
