Inaniwa udon set meal at Nakaniwa is a Kyoto-style restaurant with a courtyard. I always come here for a meal after visiting the graveyard. You can choose whether you want tempura or not, and even with tempura, it's only 2,000 yen, which I think is reasonable. There is a fish tank inside the restaurant, and there were some delicious-looking horse mackerel swimming in it.

I was told that the restaurant closes at 3:00 pm for lunch, but I called and begged to be allowed in by 2:30 pm, and they kindly let me in. If I had given up on the other restaurant's line a little later, I would have become a lunch refugee. I searched for a place where I could eat nama-fu (wheat gluten), but they said they didn't have it on the lunch menu, so I ordered anago (conger eel) rice bowl, sukiyaki rice bowl, and Kyoto-style rolled omelette (along with a beer)! The anago was delicious with a sweet seasoning (I won't compare it to a specialized store in Ginza). After having a lot of side dishes and fish dishes, the sukiyaki rice bowl was satisfying for my stomach! The gentle taste of the Kyoto-style rolled omelette with dashi broth was wonderful. Thank you for your polite service even close to closing time. It was a delicious meal.

This day, we gathered with relatives for a meal. We used a restaurant where we could relax in a large private room. The exterior has a nostalgic feel and the interior has a Kyoto-like charm. Perhaps it was designed this way for tourists. Since we had a large group, we opted for a course meal with 8 dishes in total. The courses included appetizers, sashimi, hot pot, grilled fish, steamed dish, tempura, rice, soup, pickles, and dessert. The appetizer, sashimi, and hot pot all had yuba (tofu skin) in them. The dishes overall had a Kyoto-like essence. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. The price may be a bit high, but the restaurant seems accommodating and is recommended for group gatherings. Thank you for the feast! ★

I went to Kyoto to visit the grave. During my visit to the grave, I had lunch at Okazaki Saryo Mamedanuki, a Kyoto cuisine restaurant that I always go to. I ordered the Kyoto dance set meal for 2,725 yen. The food was delicious and looked beautiful as well. This restaurant seems to be particular about the fish they serve, as they have a fish tank. The fatty bluefin tuna and Atlantic salmon were both delicious.

I had the opportunity to visit Okazaki, so I stopped by a restaurant. I arrived after 2 pm, so it was close to closing time, but they kindly showed us in. I ordered the Inaniwa udon set meal, while my friend ordered the yudofu set meal. The set meal included warm Inaniwa udon, clam rice, sashimi, fried tofu, simmered eggplant, and pickles. The udon had a good broth and the clam rice was delicious. The fried tofu was large, so I was quite full after that. It was a satisfying dining experience after a long time. ❤️

Located near Kyoto City Zoo in Okazaki Marukatsuji-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, this dining establishment was a lifesaver for me when I found myself struggling to find a lunch spot during the busy Bon festival season. After giving up on the long wait at the renowned udon restaurant Yamamoto Menzo, I stumbled upon this place and decided to try their Kyoto-style cuisine. I ordered the Black Soybean Flavored Tempura Soba Set for 1890 yen, which included soba noodles made with a unique blend of Kyoto's white Tanba soybeans, a platter of 5 tempura items, a selection of 3 sashimi, pickled hamo fish, rice, and pickles. The soba noodles had a subtle sweetness from the soybeans and a smooth texture, and they tasted delicious dipped in the broth. The tempura platter featured shrimp and vegetables, which were flavorful when dipped in matcha salt. The sashimi platter included tuna, amberjack, and squid, each offering a unique and delicious taste. The pickled hamo fish was crispy and tangy, while the Kyoto-style yuba sashimi was smooth and flavorful when dipped in soy sauce.

Walking the path of philosophy towards Heian Shrine, I was getting really hungry! I mentioned that I wanted to eat yudofu, so my partner did some research. There are many famous yudofu restaurants near Nanzen-ji, but most of them have traditional tatami seating. My partner doesn't like tatami seating, so they found a restaurant with tables and chairs for us - Okazaki Saryo Mamedanuki. From the moment we entered, the Kyoto-style decorations were evident. It seemed like a restaurant catering to tour groups. The ambiance was luxurious. Despite my initial reservations, we decided to give it a try because we were hungry. It was a weekday and off-season, so we were seated right away. The garden was also beautiful, and there were foreign tourists dining as well. The menu had a variety of set meals, but there was only one set with yudofu. It also included sashimi and tempura, a typical Japanese set meal. The taste was decent, but it felt like something you would eat at a formal event. We also ordered a small bottle of sake, and the total bill for two people came to 7000 yen, which we found to be quite expensive. For that price, we could have gone to a more reputable restaurant like Junsei or Kikusui. My initial reservations were confirmed - this restaurant seemed to cater more towards tour groups and tourists. While Kyoto can be expensive, there are many affordable and delicious options in the student-friendly areas. Overall, Okazaki Saryo Mamedanuki is a good option for first-time visitors to Kyoto or foreign tourists, with its convenient location near Heian Shrine and ample seating.

You can find a lunch place within walking distance from the Kyocera Museum. It is a large restaurant at the corner with a lively atmosphere and a fish tank inside. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant. I ordered the Kyoto Maibun set meal for 2970 yen. It came in a flower basket and included sesame tofu, assorted simmered dishes, sashimi (tuna, sea bream, salmon), deep-fried gluten dumplings with 3 flavors, steamed egg custard, sweet and sour marinated dish, dessert, miso soup, rice, and pickles. It felt like you could walk in without a reservation.

Udon set meal for 1,850 yen. Located next to Muryoan, a tea house. I didn't have high expectations due to the poor quality of the menu photo, but it was delicious. Especially the white rice topped with clams had a strong flavor, so it was satisfying on its own. Free refills are available. There were even two pieces of fried tofu, allowing for a luxurious dining experience.

In early April one morning, we found ourselves at Kyoto Station for some cherry blossom viewing. It was quite a luxurious idea to see cherry blossoms in Kyoto... probably a once in a lifetime experience! Luckily, this year the cherry blossoms were blooming late, and the day we arrived seemed to be just right. Not being familiar with Kyoto or Osaka, we decided to join a cherry blossom viewing bus tour departing from Karasuma Exit. The tour included visits to three cherry blossom spots and lunch. The three spots we visited were: Heian Shrine - in full bloom! Nijo Castle - blooming too late... Ninna-ji Temple - blooming too early... It seems the timing of cherry blossoms varies depending on the location and type of cherry tree. Despite some spots being too early or too late, we were quite satisfied with the cherry blossoms we saw. As for lunch, we visited "Okazaki Charyo Mamedar" near Heian Shrine. The restaurant served tofu and yuba dishes, typical of Kyoto cuisine. The atmosphere in this area was quite charming, with many high-end Japanese restaurants. The lunch we had was a yudofu set meal, which included: Yudofu - tofu simmered in soy milk broth, with enoki mushrooms, kujo green onions, and fresh wheat gluten Sashimi - salmon, sea bream, and flounder Yuba and bamboo shoot simmered dish Simmered taro root Yuba with ankake sauce Rice with cherry blossom mochi for dessert & tea The meal was light and delicate, with no meat or fried food. As someone used to stronger flavors, I found it a bit lacking in taste, but I appreciated the simplicity and healthiness of the meal. The restaurant was filled with tourists and tour groups, offering reasonable prices and a convenient location. However, the service was a bit overwhelmed, with the staff struggling to keep up with the demand. Overall, it was a nice introduction to Kyoto's atmosphere. Our journey is just beginning as we leave Kyoto at dusk and head towards Osaka... to be continued.

A Kyoto cuisine restaurant near the large torii gate of Heian Shrine in Okazaki, Kyoto. The restaurant is quite spacious, with a seating capacity of over 200 people, including banquet halls. The staff, dressed in traditional Japanese clothing, greeted and seated us at a table. The restaurant is open all day without a break, making it convenient for a late lunch visit. This time, we arrived in the afternoon and ordered the Kyoto Dance Set Meal (¥2700). The set meal included: Appetizer: Matcha tofu Side dish: Eight assorted dishes Small dish: Kyoto fatty tuna and yuba sashimi Main dish: Assorted three types of fresh sashimi Grilled dish: Three-colored Kyoto-style gluten steamed dish: Seasonal steamed bun with sauce Rice, red miso soup, pickles, clear soup. The rice comes with dried small fish sprinkles. While the meal may not be considered high-end Kyoto cuisine, it was served promptly, which was appreciated when time was limited. The portion size justifies the price, and the taste was decent.

Before I knew it, I had walked all the way here. I took the subway to Nanzen-ji, but from there I wanted to walk to Kinkaku-ji. I was tired and still hadn't had lunch, so even though there were five groups waiting here, I decided to go in. It was tough to stand. But then, they called us in after about 10 minutes. I had sukiyaki, my friend had the Nanzen-ji meal, both were quite luxurious. I even asked for extra meat. The pickles were delicious. The miso soup was delicious. The rice with sansho pepper was delicious. The meat was delicious.

I visited my parents' house for the first time with my family. The restaurant was chosen by my father. My younger brother wanted to try Japanese cuisine for his studies, so we decided to go to a Kyoto cuisine restaurant. The location was near the huge torii gate of Heian Shrine. The nearest station is probably Keihan Jingu-Marutamachi Station. It's a great location near Heian Shrine, and the interior is stylish with a Japanese atmosphere. The prices on the menu are reasonable, so it's recommended for those who want to casually enjoy Kyoto cuisine. I ordered the sukiyaki set. It came with a small pot for me to cook the sukiyaki myself. It was delicious as expected! Kyoto sukiyaki is really good. It also came with tempura and pickles, so I was able to enjoy various flavors. The matcha dessert at the end was also amazing. I definitely want to go back.
