Today's lunch was at "Udon Restaurant Maruse" located in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, just west of the Kintetsu Kyoto Line elevated railway on Sannojoshi Street. The restaurant has a modern exterior with aluminum sashes and decorative bamboo fences. Inside, there are three compact tables that exude a sense of history. There is a stack of takeout containers by the entrance, indicating a high volume of takeout orders. The menu mainly features udon and a few rice bowl options, all reasonably priced except for the cold noodles. Despite the hot weather, the air conditioning is working well. I ordered the "Curry Niku Udon" for 490 yen. The wooden condiment holder on the table reflects the restaurant's history. The dish arrived promptly, carried smoothly from the kitchen to the table. The aroma of curry filled the air as soon as it was served. The unique split chopsticks placed at the back of the bowl caught my attention. The udon noodles had a firm texture, unlike the softer Kyoto style, and the curry broth was flavorful with a hint of spiciness. The bowl was generously filled with thin slices of meat. Overall, it was a traditional udon restaurant that exuded a sense of history beyond its appearance.

I visited Maruse based on the familiar review from Tokariko. Even though it was before lunchtime, the small restaurant was already full. I tried the recommended meat curry bowl (570 yen including tax) and it was delicious with plenty of meat and green onions, and a flavorful sauce that wasn't too spicy. The soup also had a good broth and surprisingly complemented the curry well. All the menu items are reasonably priced, making it a popular spot for locals. I noticed they have a nostalgic delivery bike outside, so I thought it would be nice to order delivery from there in the future.

Today, I came here. It's a small dining place located off the main street. The dimly lit and quite compact interior has a kitchen on the right side, no counter seats, and a layout of 3 four-person table seats. It is run by an elderly couple and their daughter, I think. The menu includes "udon, soba, donburi, and ramen," all quite reasonably priced. I ordered the "curry beef bowl" ... They have old-fashioned delivery bags, so maybe they also do takeout? ... It arrived after a while. It was served in a slightly small bowl. The thickened sauce with starch had a strong dashi flavor, with beef and green onions sprinkled on top. The side dish of pickles had a strong bonito flavor. I finished it quickly ... It was a bit disappointing that there was only a little bit of "meat" for a dish called "meat" (^^; Well, it's cheap, so it can't be helped, haha. During lunchtime, it was full of local regulars, but there were no drinkers. The person I shared a table with was eating the ramen, which also looked delicious φ(゚∀゚ ) Next time, I'll try that. Service was good. Thank you for the meal. Personal perspective: Not wheelchair accessible, Japanese-style toilet near the entrance, no parking lot.

Located on Fuda no Tsuji Street, east of Omiya Street, this restaurant serves set meals, udon, soba, and more. About 30 years ago, they used to operate on Aburakoji Street, which was close to my workplace and I frequented it often. The interior still has some old furniture that gives off a nostalgic Showa era vibe. Thank you for the delicious meal.
