Ramen Sen no Kaze Foodlog Rating: 3.30(as of posting date) "Kyoto Salt Ramen (930 yen)" Points: - Opened in 2010 in Shijo Kawaramachi - Signature dish is salt ramen - Menu includes foreign language options - Counter seats are the main seating option, with a welcoming atmosphere for solo female diners - Takeout available ⚠️ Cash only payment accepted Located within walking distance from Hankyu Kyoto Kawaramachi Station [Comment/Impression] Ramen Sen no Kaze utilizes its location in Shijo Kawaramachi to cater to a diverse range of customers, including both locals and tourists. During my visit, there were almost an equal number of female customers as well! The soup is light and milky in flavor, and the seared chashu pork was superb. This ramen is enjoyable for ramen enthusiasts and newcomers alike, so I highly recommend it, especially for beginners and female diners. Thank you for the meal! [Business Hours] 11:30-21:00 (last order) Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

It is located a short distance from Hankyu Kyoto Kawaramachi Station, a little off the beaten path. When I visited, it was crowded with many foreign tourists, as mentioned in other reviews, and there was a line because it is a small shop. This time, I had the "Kyoto Soy Sauce Ramen" (830 yen)! I think it's pork bone based, but the pork bone flavor is not very strong, and it's quite light like miso ramen. The char siu with fat on it comes with three slices, and it also includes green onions and bean sprouts, making it a satisfying bowl even as a single item! As far as I could see, all the staff were wearing red hats. I was curious, but I didn't understand why...

This week's ramen was decided by rock-paper-scissors. There were various types of ramen, but I decided to order the classic salt ramen with a rice set. It looked creamy, but it wasn't as rich as expected. The flavor was a bit light, which may not be satisfying for male university students. All the staff were female, so maybe it's tailored more towards women? However, the char siu was nicely seared and incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I came to this restaurant for the first time. I happened to be passing by and feeling a bit hungry, so I decided to give it a try. It was a random time, but there were 2 groups of customers already there. I ordered the salt flavored ramen, which was listed as the most popular item, and added a seasoned boiled egg on top. The appearance of the dish was very appetizing and made me eager to eat. Ramen is something that can vary greatly depending on personal taste, and the person I was with thought the light flavor was delicious. The restaurant had good reviews and a clean atmosphere, and the staff efficiently served the ramen. However, the taste was much lighter than it looked, and I found it to be too bland. I tried adding pepper and chili powder multiple times, but all I could taste was the bonito flakes. I think this is because I prefer stronger flavors like miso. The chashu was tasty though, so I believe it's a good restaurant for those who enjoy this type of ramen.

I usually only eat tonkotsu ramen, but I decided to try the recommended shio ramen during my trip to Kyoto. It was light and easy to eat! The juicy chashu was addictive! Also, all the staff were older women, which gave me a sense of comfort.

I arrived at the restaurant just before 2:00 PM. Inside, there was an elegant atmosphere with stylish staff making ramen. The place was crowded, and the menu had a variety of ramen options, including some written in English, indicating its popularity among tourists. I decided to try the number one recommended dish, "Kyoto Salt Ramen" (930 yen). The bowl was vibrant red with a cloudy soup, topped with three slices of seared chashu. The soup was a light and creamy tonkotsu broth, lacking the typical pork bone smell, with a smooth taste from the emulsification and a hint of sesame oil. The noodles were thin and chewy, and the chashu was generously portioned, offering a satisfying mix of smoky and fatty flavors. This tonkotsu ramen was on the lighter side, possibly catering to foreigners who prefer a milder pork bone broth. Overall, I think this ramen would be enjoyable even for those who are sensitive to strong pork odors.

Google Maps had high ratings, so I visited during a weekday afternoon. It was pouring rain, but I was able to enter without any trouble. I was so hungry that I skipped the menu page and ended up ordering soy sauce instead of the recommended salt. I also ordered some dumplings. The noodles were curly but didn't stick together because the soup was light. The amount of bean sprouts seemed to be more than the noodles, which was a bit disappointing. The soup cooled down quickly, even though I was sitting directly under the air conditioner in the middle of summer. The char siu was delicious and the seared flavor was excellent. It could even be a meal on its own. With three slices of char siu, I thought it would be more cost-effective to have just one slice and lower the price of a bowl. The dumpling set was around 1260 yen, and the dumplings were crispy yet tender, giving off a healthy vibe. The three types of dipping sauces were all delicious. The restaurant has won various awards on TripAdvisor, and its slightly hidden location makes it interesting. If you can enter without waiting in line, it's a good choice.

I visited before the lunch rush. Before COVID, this ramen shop would typically have a full house with a few people waiting. Today, it was quiet with only a few customers. The taste of the ramen was excellent, no complaints. I ordered the tonkotsu shio ramen. The ramen here reminded me of Amanojaku in Nara Tomio. Maybe it's just me. Thank you for the meal.

On January 4, 2021, I started work on a Monday and arrived at the restaurant around 12:10. Luckily, I was able to get a seat at the counter without waiting. As more customers arrived, by the time I finished eating, there was a line outside. I had been curious about this restaurant for a while. Before the spread of COVID-19, it used to be very popular among foreigners. I ordered the salt ramen and when it arrived, I noticed how beautifully presented it was. The taste was lighter than I expected, but still delicious. I couldn't help but think that this type of ramen might be more suited to the preferences of foreigners. I finished every last bite.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time. The last time I came close, there was a huge line so I had to give up, but this time it was empty so I finally got to try the ramen I had been longing for. I was impressed by the delicious soup and noodles, even more than I had expected! What surprised me the most was the chashu, which was incredibly delicious. It was perfectly tender, well-seasoned, and tastier than any chashu I had ever eaten before. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again.

Sen no Kaze is usually crowded with foreign tourists, but now due to the impact of Corona, it is mostly Japanese visitors, so it is a good opportunity as there are no lines! They offer four types of soup: salt, soy sauce, Japanese dashi, and spicy miso. The photo shows the soy sauce soup, which was very rich and delicious. The gyoza set comes with three types of dipping sauce: sesame oil, vinegar soy sauce, and chili. All of them were tasty, and I wanted to order more gyoza. The service is simple and efficient, making it a comfortable place for solo female diners.

I had been curious about this place for a long time, but never visited due to the long lines of foreign tourists. Finally, I decided to check out "Ramen Sen no Kaze," a popular spot easily accessible from Kawaramachi Station, with many tourists stopping by from Teramachi Street. On a hot day, I was craving tsukemen, so I ordered the "Kyoto Tsukemen" for my first visit. The dish came with crunchy bean sprouts, boiled cabbage, chashu, and a soft-boiled egg, making for a visually appealing and hearty meal. The dipping sauce was a refreshing cold type, and customers were given the option to dip the noodles or pour the sauce over them. The website mentioned that there are affiliated shops in Hiroshima, where they serve a spicy tsukemen with a different style. The noodles were straight and standard. While I haven't tried Hiroshima-style tsukemen before, I enjoyed dipping them in the spicy sauce. I decided to pour the sauce over the noodles along with the veggies for a satisfying meal. I had always been curious about this place, and with the recent increase in tourists due to the easing of travel restrictions, I thought it was a good opportunity to visit. Next time, I'd like to try their warm noodles as well. For those who have been curious but never visited, I recommend giving it a try if you get the chance.

When I was traveling, I happened to come across a ramen shop. It was cold, so I wanted something warm to eat. There was a wait of over 30 minutes, which made me wonder why it was so popular. I checked the reviews on Tabelog and found out it had high ratings, so I decided to wait! I ordered the popular ramen (I forgot which one) and it was light yet had a rich broth. The meat was tender and juicy. I understand why it's so popular. There are many foreign customers, but Japanese people also enjoy the taste! I would love to come back here again to eat. ✨

I tried the salt ramen. I usually don't eat salt ramen, but this time I ordered it. It was the first time I thought salt ramen could be this delicious!! The seared chashu was also very tasty. It was a restaurant that made me want to go back again.

I had miso soup, it wasn't very strong in miso flavor but it was light and easy to eat. I also had dumplings with a unique sauce (chili and sesame oil?), which was interesting.

I received some salt. I was feeling quite light, so I was able to eat it refreshingly with a taste that matched my mood. This time I also had some dumplings, and personally, I like chili sauce.

I had soy sauce and salt. The pork bone soup is light and easy to eat, making it easy to eat with chopsticks! The soy sauce has a rich flavor and goes well with bean sprouts and noodles!!! I feel like getting an extra serving of noodles (✷‿✷)

We waited in line for over an hour to eat. The cost performance is not good. It seemed like a popular restaurant with a long line, but the cooking process seemed slow, and the way they drained the noodles was not efficient.

I went with friends who were visiting from overseas. We waited for about an hour to get in, which may be precious time for those coming from abroad. Finally, we ordered ramen and gyoza. The ramen was decent but not outstanding, and the gyoza was average. What bothered us was that even though we ordered three servings of gyoza for five people, they only brought out three dishes of gyoza sauce. When we asked for more sauce for the other two people, we were told that they could only provide sauce based on the number of orders. Also, when we requested vinegar to add depth to the ramen soup, we were told that they don't have vinegar available. It seems like their policy is to serve things as is without any additional requests. For visitors from overseas, that one hour of waiting is valuable. If you really want to try delicious ramen, it may be better to choose another ramen shop without a long wait. For locals, waiting a bit may not be a waste of time, so I recommend trying different flavors.
