I had lunch here today (#^^#) It was convenient to park the car right in front of the restaurant❣❣ I ordered: - Shrimp fry set meal for 850 yen - Mackerel simmered set meal for 680 yen I had the shrimp fry set meal ⭐️ It was delicious♪ But even after finishing it, I felt like I could eat more~ The mackerel simmered dish was larger than I expected, and had a tasty flavor♡ According to my husband, it would have been better to get a larger portion of rice... (≧▽≦) Thank you for the meal (^人^)

On Saturday, I really felt like eating udon noodles! I wanted the old-fashioned kind, not the thick and firm type. While the popular udon place was crowded early in the morning, I found a place that was empty near closing time at a little after 11 o'clock. I ordered a tonkatsu set meal with udon. The tonkatsu and udon were not exceptionally delicious, but they had a reliable and comforting taste. It's the kind of place you wish was near you.

I went for my usual Saturday neighborhood exploration. In Fuchimori, the delicious mochi udon at Chikaramochi Udon is a must-try, but they close at 6 pm. So, I decided to try a new place. The restaurant had table seats and a raised tatami seating area. There was one other customer who seemed friendly with the staff. I ordered the chicken nanba for around 530-540 yen (so cheap!) and my husband ordered a set meal for around 740-750 yen (also very affordable!). The food was delicious and reasonably priced, making it a great place to dine. However, if you're not into the vibe of regulars and locals dropping by, this place might not be for you. Personally, I don't mind and would love to come back because of the good food at such a great price.

The visit was on September 12, 2019. It was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I was brought here by a friend who seems to really like it and has been here many times before. We arrived shortly before noon. You can easily drive here as there is parking available, and even if you park a bit roughly, there are spaces for a few cars. It was still early in the day, so both the parking lot and the restaurant were not crowded. I had the daily lunch special, which was mackerel simmered in soy sauce set meal. It came with half a mackerel simmered in soy sauce, cold tofu, mini kitsune udon, and rice, all for 680 yen, which is quite cheap. There is a favorite restaurant in the northern part of Kyoto city where you can enjoy simmered mackerel, cooked for three days until it falls apart. But the mackerel simmered I had today was a light simmer that allowed me to taste the juicy and original flavor of the mackerel. The broth of the udon was also delicious, with a subtle sweetness from the fried tofu. I finished every last bite. I was very happy to have found a cafeteria that I would like to visit again. I highly recommend Kirin-tei.

I discovered this place while strolling around the neighborhood. It's nice that you can easily park your car here! There are about 4-5 parking spaces available. It was around 2 PM before the break time, so it was quite empty. They have tables and raised seating areas, but no counter. Since I was alone, I asked if I could sit at the raised seating area, and they happily agreed. They also serve noodles, rice bowls, and set meals. It's hard to decide, but I tend to lean towards noodles. However, this time I decided to try something different - the "kitsune don" for 600 yen, which came with mini noodles. It was served with chopped fried tofu and green onions, and the broth was just right. Although it might seem a bit pricey when you consider it as a standalone menu item, the fact that it also came with a side of udon made it quite reasonable. I heard that you can customize the noodles - hot or cold, udon or soba. Being unfamiliar with the place, I went with "hot udon" and it turned out to be a good choice. If you're looking for a place that specializes in rice bowls, this neighborhood spot is worth a visit!

Visited "Kirin-tei" near Ryudai. The parking space was a bit cramped, so I had to park diagonally in front of the store. All 5-6 table seats and 2-3 tatami seats were full, so I agreed to share a table with someone. Most of the customers seemed to be working men, and I wondered why they chose this quiet place. I had high expectations for the taste. I ordered the daily special (Hayashi rice + kitsune udon) for 680 yen. There were other options like shrimp fry set for 850 yen, tonkatsu set for 900 yen, katsudon for 850 yen, tendon for 1,000 yen, and more. For rice bowl dishes, they had oyakodon for 630 yen, katsudon for 850 yen, tendon for 900 yen, and for udon/soba, kitsune udon, tamago toji udon, and tsukimi udon for 450 yen each. After about 10 minutes, the daily special was served. Considering the price of 680 yen, the portion size was decent. The udon was slightly overcooked, but the broth was tasty. The Hayashi rice was okay, with lots of onions. Overall, the meal filled me up, but the taste was average. The rice bowl dishes seemed popular, so I might try them next time to see if my opinion changes.
