This is an old Danish bread shop. It has recently been renovated, so the interior is clean and nice. I have been there before the renovation and after, but I forgot to leave a review. I will make sure to upload photos from now on! The uploaded photos are all of toasted bread.
<August 2022>
- Lemon (Seasonal): In addition to plain bread sold by the loaf, there are also small trial breads with only 2 slices, allowing you to enjoy various flavors of bread. The lemon flavor adds a refreshing touch to the usual sweetness and richness of the bread, making it perfect for summer. The lemon flavor is quite strong but not overly sour, giving a refreshing impression. It is easy for children to enjoy as well. I think it could sell well even as a regular item, not just a seasonal one.
<January 2023>
- Pure Chocolate Orange (Seasonal): It cost 1080 yen for a half loaf. I sliced it into 4 pieces and toasted it. The chocolate Danish bread with orange peel mixed in adds a moderate acidity and bitterness to the sweet bread. When toasted, the chocolate, along with butter, makes your hands messy, indicating a generous amount of chocolate used. It was delicious and perfect for winter.
- Rich Strawberry Slice: It cost 345 yen for 2 slices. The strawberries are well incorporated, allowing you to enjoy the strawberry aroma. However, the strawberry flavor was mild. If it's called "rich," I would have liked to see chunks of strawberry flesh mixed into the bread.
- Maple Slice: It cost 313 yen for 2 slices. When I opened the bag and toasted it, the whole room was filled with the aroma of maple. I was confident it would be delicious, and it was. Danish bread with maple is a sure winner.
- Caramel Coffee Slice: It cost 313 yen for 2 slices. The balance of sweetness and bitterness was perfect. The caramel and coffee aromas were both strong after toasting, but when eaten, they were not overwhelming at all.

About 10 years ago, I received a very delicious Danish bread through mail order, I think it was in Kyoto. I received it from a customer during my salaryman days. I can't remember the name of the store, but it was comparable to that bread. However, I think it is a high-quality Danish bread. I enjoyed it very much.

【To Kyoto Gion Boronia】I visited for a take-away of Danish bread. They offer both a one-pound loaf and a two-piece option. There are various types of Danish bread to choose from, so you can mix and match. Some loaves even include the "mimi" or end piece. By the way, the price is the same.

☆ Soft Danish Premium (2 pieces) / 496 yen

☆ Sweet Danish Pure Chocolate (2 pieces) / 507 yen

☆ Soft Danish Maple (2 pieces) / 313 yen

☆ Soft Danish Lemon (2 pieces) / 313 yen

The Danish bread is moist and delicious. I chose the "mimi" end piece for the Maple flavor. One of the two pieces was the end piece, which had a nice crispy texture. Toasting it and enjoying it plain is great, but personally, I think it would also be delicious with cheese and ham toppings. Be careful when toasting the Pure Chocolate flavor, as it has an intense chocolate flavor. Overall, I enjoyed the Danish bread. Thank you for the meal.

This shop is said to have created the roots of Danish bread. It is handmade. I intended to buy strawberries but ended up with maple. If stored in the refrigerator, it will lose moisture and become dry. It is best to store at room temperature. It is delicious as it is or baked.

When it comes to Danish pastries, Boronia is a pioneering bakery. Whenever I go out to Gion at night for entertainment, I always remember receiving their pastries as souvenirs. A few years ago, they relocated to a larger space just across from their original store, making it much easier to shop. They have a wide variety of pastries to choose from, making the selection process enjoyable. Since it's within walking distance, I visit them occasionally. I love toasting their pastries because the layers of Danish dough come out perfectly crispy. A cafe has been opened on the original store's premises.

This pastry is irresistible for those with a sweet tooth, as it is quite sweet. It is sweeter than regular bread, with plenty of sweetness in the Danish pastry alone. No need for any additional toppings. I ate it as is, and it was delicious, like a sweet pastry. It was easy to cut with a bread knife. It's light to eat, but be careful as it is not low in calories!

It's been so long since I had Boulangerie's Danish pastry! I saw it being sold at a service area the other day and couldn't resist buying it. I used to see it at golf courses and events, but lately, I haven't seen it at all. The Boulangerie pastry is just as delicious as I remember, with a buttery flavor, crispy exterior, and fluffy interior. It feels a bit guilty to indulge in all that butter, but the Danish pastry is irresistible. I enjoyed it for breakfast the next day and even made it my dinner at a Western-style restaurant. It was a nostalgic and satisfying meal. Thank you for the delicious treat!

The quality is truly exceptional. The plain bread is delicious, but the chocolate one is also really tasty. The bread here comes highly recommended - it's delicious even when toasted. It will make you love bread even more! Thank you for the meal! I will definitely come back!

This is a famous bakery known for their Danish bread. I bought the rich matcha red bean flavor. They fold in large red beans into Danish dough with Uji matcha. Red beans and matcha go well together. When toasted, it becomes a soft and slightly sweet matcha red bean bread, which is delicious.

Nostalgic. I used to buy Bologna, a popular pastry in Gion with a sweet taste and crispy crust, in the past. I went to Gion in the morning and there were few cars, so I stopped by and bought some. There were many new varieties available, including chestnut flavors limited to autumn. It has evolved over time. Canned bread is interesting, but is it delicious? So, I wanted my daughter to try the old taste, so I bought some as a souvenir for home. The nostalgic smell when it bakes is wonderful. Nostalgic flavors are nice. The prices are somewhat high as before.

I was intrigued by this Danish bread being sold on the highway rest area, so I decided to buy it. I chose the plain 1.5-pound Danish bread for 896 yen. It doesn't have a strong sweetness, whether toasted or not, so it seems like it would go well with various fillings. The outer Danish pastry doesn't become too crispy when toasted, which I found to be just right. While I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again, it's an easy-to-eat Danish bread.

Located north of Yasaka Shrine, this is a specialty store for Danish bread. I visited for the first time on a holiday afternoon. The beautiful interior is filled with a variety of Danish breads. You can purchase either two slices or a whole loaf. It is take-out only, with no seating available.
- Two slices of "Hannari Edamame Cheese" for 313 yen: I enjoyed this toasted at home. The outside was crispy, while the inside was fluffy. The scent of edamame and cheese was delightful, making it very delicious.
- Two slices of "Hannari Rich Strawberry" for 345 yen: My family tried this one. It was rich and tasted great when toasted. They all said they wanted me to buy it for them the next time we visit Kyoto. I'm thinking of trying a whole loaf next time.

I went to the nearby Isetan Kyoto exhibition just before closing. I found Boronia, but they only had plain and chocolate flavors left. So, I chose the traditional plain flavor. I tried it right away, and it had a reliable taste. I'm thinking of baking it and trying it tomorrow. Thank you for the meal. *Added a photo of it baked the next day. Item purchased: Plain 815 yen *Used Isetan's discount.

This is the sweetest Danish I have ever had! I visited on a Saturday evening and some popular items were already sold out. Today, I bought a chestnut Danish. It had a huge amount of sweet, stewed chestnuts inside. They were falling out as I ate it. The Danish was very moist, so it didn't get crispy even when toasted. The outside was crispy but the inside was moist, so if you like crispy pastries, you might find it lacking. Also, it was extremely sweet, so half was enough for me. Personally, I thought it could be a bit less sweet. Thank you for the meal ☺︎

I was intrigued when I passed by, so I decided to buy some Danish pastries for breakfast. The store claims to be the original creator of Danish bread! It's the original, huh! (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎) Inside the store, there are many different types of Danish pastries lined up. They are colorful and beautiful~♡ I couldn't decide, but I ended up buying "Han'nari Caramel Coffee" and "Han'nari Chocolate". I toasted them the next day. Yes! They were undeniably delicious♡ Crispy and rich in flavor (ღˇᴗˇ)。o♡ Considering their size and richness, I thought they would be perfect for enjoying with tea as a snack at 3 o'clock♡ It's been a while since I had Danish pastries. Eating them occasionally makes me feel happy♡ Thank you for the meal.

Gion Boronia Danish Shokupan! Got a delicious 1.5 kg loaf of bread at a kimono store event in Mie Prefecture (*^▽^*) It's tasty whether eaten fresh or toasted, with plenty of butter and a lovely aroma! Lucky *\(^o^)/*

I received this as a souvenir! It was purchased in Kyoto ❤︎ It's been a while since I had a Danish-style bread. It seems that not only regular bread but also Danish bread is popular now!! I had a half-size portion of 5 slices, slightly warmed up with the surface toasted. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside with layers. The butter was sweet, so I could enjoy it without any spreads. It's lighter than regular bread, so I could easily finish it in no time. It was delicious (^^)

When we were young, there weren't many options for flavored bread besides Bologna-san. I felt nostalgic and bought a French knot. When I ate it plain, it was a bit dry and unsatisfying, but when lightly toasted, the oil came out and it was delicious! The subtle, light taste of the Danish pastry was enjoyable, especially for older people.

Established in 1979, this is the original Danish bread shop located in Higashiyama. I tried the Danish bread plain (¥540). When I opened the bag, the smell of margarine hit me. I took a bite as is... The texture is fluffy and smooth, but it didn't have the expected crispiness I was hoping for. It's not heavy despite the calories, which is good. When I toasted it... Ah, it's definitely tastier when toasted. The layers of Danish dough become crispy, adding a croissant-like deliciousness. It has a slightly sweet and smooth taste, making it easy to eat. Personally, it wasn't my favorite. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I went to the Gion area in Kyoto. The purpose was to visit a popular bakery known for its Danish bread!
Kyoto Gion Boronia is the bakery that I had been wanting to visit. Without my knowledge, they had relocated just across the street on Higashioji Street. When we think of Kyoto Gion Boronia, there is also a related shop in Osaka called "BO-LO’GNE" which is known for their seasonal watermelon bread. I received it as a gift once and it left a lasting impression.
At Kyoto Gion Boronia, they were selling a limited edition chestnut Danish bread for the season. Inside the store, there were various types of Danish bread lined up. They were selling them in one loaf or in packs of two.
One of the options was the "Hannari Danish (Premium)" which comes in a pack of two. It has a rich buttery aroma and the moist Danish dough was full of flavor. It can be enjoyed as a meal bread or as a snack.

First visit. Kyoto Gion Boloniya (BOLONIYA) ★3.04 Since it has moved, there are few reviews! So, I don't understand why it has such a low rating. They have more Danish bread now, but this shop has been around for a long time. I wonder if they moved to the other side of the street from their original location? I tried the cheese bread and it was fluffy and delicious. Thank you for the meal.
