Located just a short walk from Gion Shijo Station and about 5-6 minutes from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station, this café is situated on the ground floor of a building along the corridor. It has counter and table seating available. When I visited around noon on a weekday, there was only one other customer in the café, along with three staff members. I ordered a hot coffee for 550 yen, which tasted decent. The café was playing a radio program, possibly from FM. I enjoy this kind of café, but they seem to be rare in the city center. It's quite calming and peaceful. I was the only customer there at the time, so I was able to leisurely enjoy my coffee. Thank you for the meal.

Located a 1-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Electric Railway, this café is situated on the ground floor of a building just off the main street in Gion. It is a lively spot frequented by locals and is famous for being featured in manga that depict geisha. Their iced coffee is priced at 550 yen and is described as having a rich aroma and a refreshing, easy-to-drink taste with a hint of depth and complexity. It is said to be a well-known establishment in the Gion area and is even favored by geisha. They also offer light snacks, and smoking is allowed inside the café.

I have come to Kyoto. Today, I am not wearing a kimono so I can move around easily (laughs) and explore a bit. The title "Maiko-san Chi no Makanae-san" is a manga that depicts the daily lives of maiko living in Kyoto's okiya from the perspective of a girl who is in charge of their meals. Coffee Shop Nakatani appears in volume 9, where Kiyo, the cook, gets the flu, so they decide to order takeout to the okiya. The location is near Keihan Shijo Station, in a building with a large coffee mill sign outside. The glass doors are open, and since it was crowded, I was seated at the counter as a solo customer. The interior has a dark wooden decor with chic leather sofas. Posters of various hanamachi dances and items related to the drama adaptation of "Maiko-san Chi no Makanae-san" are displayed on the walls. The menu mentions "We accept room visits" with the names of theaters and hanamachi, indicating they offer delivery services over a wide area. Following the manga, I ordered a Toasted Sandwich Set for 990 yen and a coffee for 550 yen. Soon, they were served - the Toasted Sandwich consisted of 12 pieces with egg and ham fillings, finely sliced to prevent geisha or actors from messing up their makeup while eating. The egg sandwich had finely chopped boiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise and cucumber, while the ham sandwich had pressed ham and cucumber, both with a deliciously strong mayonnaise flavor. The coffee had a deep roast with ample bitterness, providing a rich and intense taste. On the wall, there was a stack of votive tablets with the shop's owner apparently making deliveries. The customers included elderly women discussing shamisen practice and men mentioning visits to hanamachi dances, creating a nostalgic atmosphere where locals near the hanamachi gather, rather than typical tourists.

I didn't expect to find a cafe serving breakfast in Gion! It was delicious, so I bought a mixed sandwich as a souvenir. I enjoyed it by the Kamogawa River! It was so tasty! I think I'll come back here again next time. Thank you very much!

I want to go to a cafe. I want to go to a cool coffee shop in Kyoto. It feels great to see old men enjoying themselves. They use raw eggs in their milkshakes. It's Kansai-style. It's nice to breathe in the atmosphere here. Good times!

It's been a while since I had a morning set, which cost 600 yen. It included two bread rolls, a mini salad, and coffee ☕️. Just right. I used to have sandwiches before, and they were delicious. It's nice that they serve breakfast, very reliable. There were more staff on Saturdays.

I visited this place when I had some errands around here. I was a little hungry, so I ordered a fruit sandwich and a hot coffee. The sandwich was cut into small pieces, making it easy to eat. It is a smoking-friendly place, so non-smokers may want to avoid it, but I really like the relaxed atmosphere here. Personally, it's one of my favorite spots, but if it weren't for the smoking allowance, I would highly recommend this place. Thank you for the meal.

I had only ever ordered coffee here before, but decided to visit for lunch. I was surprised to see a wide variety of menu options. I wanted to order omurice and was surprised again to see that I could choose from ketchup, curry, and other sauces. I chose ketchup and was pleased with the moist rice and slightly firm egg, which is just how I like it. I will definitely come back again.

During the middle of a geisha's practice session, it seems that egg sandwiches have quietly evolved in Kyoto as a snack. Moreover, the most Kyoto-like egg sandwich is not made by mashing hard-boiled eggs, but by sandwiching thickly cooked eggs between bread. This knowledge was published in the evening edition of a certain economic newspaper. The shop featured in the article with a photo is where I went to try their morning set based on the article during my early visit to Kyoto for business. However, the egg sandwich at this shop was made with mashed hard-boiled eggs instead of thickly cooked eggs. My impression was that it was just a delicious egg sandwich. Personally, I was surprised by the size of each bite of the egg sandwich. According to the article, it was supposed to be small for geishas to eat easily, but it was not the case. Even with my big mouth, I couldn't eat it in one bite. But, trying to eat it in two bites caused the egg to fall apart from inside... Geishas' mouths may look small, but maybe they're not as small as they seem?

Gion Coffee Nakatani has a simple entrance adorned with a retro coffee mill, a symbol of old-fashioned cafes. There is no menu outside, only a sign with the distinctive font for "coffee." Inside, the walls are covered with flower-patterned folding fans, adding to the charming atmosphere. They offer a morning set with roll bread and serve drinks like Miracle Maccha and toomuch with speedy service that impresses customers.

I visited a shop that I had been curious about for a while! It's quietly located on the first floor of a mixed-use building off the main street of Gion. The place exudes a sense of tradition. When I opened the door, there were two Western couples inside! It was past 10 o'clock, so I didn't see any regular customers. The interior of the shop has a "Taisho Romance" or "classic cafe" vibe! There are many maiko fans displayed on the walls!! I ordered the morning set for ¥600, which included two rolls (one with ham and one with boiled egg paste), potato salad with cucumber slices, 4 slices of tomato, 1 lettuce leaf, topped with mayo! It may be a bit pricey, but considering the location, it might actually be cheap! The taste was... "just as I imagined" or even better (^^) And the coffee that came with the set was absolutely to my likingᐝ I would love to have a refill if I had more time♡♡ Next time, I want to go and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffeeᐝ *I forgot to take a picture due to being too hungry*

Having breakfast for the first time at a famous retro coffee shop. The fruit sandwich and coffee were the perfect combination. The whipped cream was refreshing. It's located right near Gion Shijo.
