It's about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station, so when I'm in an unfamiliar place, I prefer to look for restaurants within walking distance instead of taking the train. It's located near To-ji Temple, but there aren't many tourists around, so there was only one other customer when I visited, making it still quite quiet. I decided to try the "Tanba Wagyu beef raw yuba spring rolls" for 850 yen. I don't eat Tanba Wagyu beef often, but the raw yuba spring rolls caught my eye. I had to try it. The interior of the restaurant has a spacious feel with a mix of Japanese and Western elements. They served three kinds of appetizers, which were enough to go with 2-3 drinks. However, since I was there, I decided to try the Tanba Wagyu beef raw yuba spring rolls, Tanba Wagyu beef carpaccio, and five kinds of raw fu. All the dishes were new to me, and I particularly enjoyed the raw fu for its texture. The raw yuba had a firm texture, not what I expected from yuba. Each dish was a creative take on Kyoto cuisine. I think the proprietress is in charge of the cooking, and the table order system suited the modern times, making it feel more like a high-end restaurant than a small establishment. Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy a peaceful meal alone. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the delicious meal!

After enjoying the cherry blossoms at Toji Temple during the light-up event, we found this cozy restaurant nearby. The atmosphere was very homey, with traditional tatami seating available which could be convenient for families with children. Ordering was done through a touch panel, which is common in chain izakaya restaurants. The most delicious dish we tried was the bamboo shoot sashimi. The tofu skin, pizza, and regular sashimi were decent. Unfortunately, the beef tataki was a bit disappointing. However, the miso soup was delicious! For dessert, we tried the fried mochi balls which were surprisingly tasty. Overall, it was a nice place for a casual drink and meal near Toji Temple. Thank you for the meal! ♡

Thanks to a teacher I am indebted to, I visited this restaurant on a Sunday night for dinner. The interior was beautiful and spacious, making it feel very relaxing. It seemed to be quite busy, with the staff working hard. The pizza left a strong impression as it was delicious. It paired well with beer.

I was able to have dinner at a restaurant included in the Kyoto Plaza Hotel accommodation plan. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere with a touch of the owner's personal style, and the food, such as fresh fu (wheat gluten), was delicious and reminiscent of Kyoto cuisine.

The lunch set menu was popular as there was a long line.

(Taken from a blog post) Today, I went out for drinks with my work colleagues at a Japanese izakaya called Shokusai Koubou Madoi near Toji Temple. The table was set with charming sakura-patterned paper. We started with an Extra Cold beer for a toast. We ordered various dishes including appetizers, sashimi, sushi, barm cake, and pork kimchi. The pork kimchi was made with pork that apparently grew up eating barm cake, resulting in marbled meat. We also tried the Tanba wagyu beef spring rolls with fresh yuba. The combination of beef, vegetables, and yuba created a mix of textures in every bite. We finished off with some sake. It's a very warm and inviting Japanese-style izakaya. The owner even remembered my visit from years ago, which was a pleasant surprise. I definitely want to go back again. (^^)

Visited around 8pm. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was bright and homey. It seems like there are many regular customers who come alone. The food was not particularly outstanding, but I was happy to see a wide selection of shochu available. I couldn't drink this time because I came by car. The salt-grilled fish I ordered was cracked open with a hammer and was deliciously moist. They also offer a reasonably priced all-you-can-drink menu, although it doesn't include draft beer, which was a bit disappointing. I'm curious about their affordable lunch menu as well. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by during a movie break at Toji Temple. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. I ordered the Donky Special Set for 1,480 yen. It came with tuna and yellowtail sashimi, fried chicken, and appetizers (beef simmered in soy sauce, Yoko wa nori roll). It was a great deal! I also tried the famous Bin Ta charcoal-grilled food, which was delicious. It was served quickly and went well with drinks.

This is a family-run izakaya located diagonally across from Toji Temple. It has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed with anything I ordered (of course, personal preferences may vary). On the 21st of every month, they also serve lunch, but since there are not many restaurants in the area, there is often a line. Both lunch and dinner offer homemade dishes made with care. If you ask the staff for their recommended sashimi of the day, they will gladly tell you. The specialty is the salt-grilled sea bream, but it is recommended to make a reservation in advance to ensure they have good quality sea bream in stock.

The appetizers are always different and creatively prepared, and the dishes are delicious. However, when I visited for the first time and ordered four dishes, only three (such as simmered fish and miso eggplant) were served in order, but the eel roll took a long time to come out. There were other customers as well, but the party seemed to be over and they didn't seem to have ordered it. We weren't very hungry and hadn't ordered any other food, so we just waited for the eel roll. We waited for over 40 minutes. We decided to leave. The staff said, "The eel roll is still..." but my companion declined, saying, "It's okay because it's taking too long," and we left the restaurant. The attitude that we were at fault for not being able to wait was a bit uncomfortable. If the eel roll takes that long, it would have been nice if they had mentioned it when we ordered. Also, there was a time when the service to us was put on hold when regular customers were leaving. I understand that courtesy to regular customers is important, but it was a bit awkward when all the staff went over there.

When I went to Kyoto for a business trip, my colleague made a reservation for us at Dan'ui. There were four of us, and as we entered the restaurant, a cheerful girl greeted us with lots of energy. The place was bustling and almost full. We ordered some draft beer, classic dishes like fried chicken and rolled omelette with dashi, and had a great time chatting and drinking. Suddenly, a dish was brought to our table - "What's this?" I asked. My colleague said, "It's salt-grilled sea bream. You have to try it when you come to Dan'ui!" I was hesitant at first, thinking it might be too salty, but when I tried it, I was amazed. The sea bream was juicy and incredibly delicious. I was shocked at how tasty it was. Then, to our surprise, the restaurant played Happy Birthday on the piano and a girl with a bouquet came towards our table. It turned out to be a surprise for my colleague S's birthday. We were all surprised, especially S. After filling our stomachs, we paid the bill and stepped outside to see To-ji Temple lit up beautifully. It was a magical and touching moment. We were very satisfied. We'll definitely come back to Dan'ui!

I went to have dinner. The location is great, right near To-ji Temple and close to Kintetsu Toji Station. We used a coupon for a meal that included "Kari Kari stick + sashimi + salt-grilled sea bream + yam in tofu sauce + egg porridge + dessert" for 2 people. The original price was 7,371 yen but with the coupon, it was 3,600 yen. We also added a drink all-you-can option. The sashimi was thick and delicious, and the sea bream and porridge were piping hot and satisfying. They also have lunch options, so it's great for a stop during Toji Temple sightseeing.

It was a cold April Sunday around 6:30 pm when I saw the menu outside the restaurant with "Salt Chanoko Nabe (serves 1) \1500" written on it, so I decided to go in for that. It's located near Toji (Kujo-Omiya intersection). I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered the Chanoko Nabe for one person and a little extra to nibble on. Most of the other customers were eating what seemed to be the specialty dish, a salt-grilled sea bream? The menu had a lot of options to choose from. The Salt Chanoko Nabe was new to me. The broth was quite flavorful (not spicy), and the sweetness of the vegetables (cabbage, bean sprouts, leeks) really stood out and was delicious. There were also tofu, beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp in the pot. They also offered yuzu pepper. The meal ended with a rice porridge, which was a bit too salty for my taste. The hostess seemed friendly and welcoming, while the young female staff members were a bit inexperienced in customer service but were trying their best. The food was a bit slow to arrive, probably because the place was quite busy, with even group reservations coming in. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and was clean, but it was a bit disappointing to see cluttered items near the entrance stairs. Overall, I didn't know much about izakayas in the area, but I would consider visiting again. They also offer a "One Coin Lunch (\500)" during lunchtime.

I came to this area for work and was looking for a place to have lunch. I found this restaurant and ordered the croquette set meal for 500 yen. Despite the low price, it came with side dishes as well. The special dressing with green color was quite tasty. I enjoyed a satisfying and affordable lunch. I think it would be a good spot for those visiting Toji Temple. The restaurant had a cozy izakaya atmosphere with a wide selection of alcohol displayed.

I had been curious about this restaurant but hadn't had the chance to visit until now, when I went for a party. The restaurant has one floor with table seating and raised seating areas, as well as a counter. There are no private rooms for parties, so it's better suited for larger groups. The appetizers were small dishes and the main dishes were well-prepared. The sashimi was very fresh, and the salads, fried foods, and grilled dishes were served in large portions. Each dish seemed carefully prepared and delicious. We opted for the all-you-can-drink option, which mainly included beer and shochu, but they also offer a variety of shochu and sake if ordered individually. The staff were friendly and the location, near the station and facing a main street (Kujyo Street) with a view of Toji Temple's five-story pagoda, is convenient for gatherings. I would like to visit again for a personal meal and try more of their dishes.
