Started as a side dish to eat at Toji Temple in Kyoto, Dorayaki is said to have originated from being baked on a copper gong. This Dorayaki does not contain animal ingredients such as eggs. Originally only available on the 21st of each month, it is now sold for 3 days from the 20th to the 21st. I happened to come across it and purchased it. It can be enjoyed warm in the microwave or chilled in the refrigerator, with a shelf life of 5 days. I look forward to enjoying it.

It is a dorayaki. It seems you can only buy it on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of each month. Would it be too rude to say they are being pretentious? It has a chewy skin wrapped around smooth red bean paste, similar to the red bean roll you would eat at a monjayaki restaurant in Tokyo mixed with the texture of a famous dessert from Kanemoto-an. It has a similar feeling to sticking to the roof of your mouth. Maybe I shouldn't have eaten it with whiskey as a country person. Would it be better with green tea after all? It seems like it's best to eat it carefully in a nice dish. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious with a unique taste.

Yuzu mochi is sold in other stores as well, but it has a refined taste of yuzu that is more elegant than the beautiful green color of matcha and the sweetness of sanbon sugar. It is delicious. Since it comes in a small bag, it is perfect for tea time. It goes well with Japanese tea, coffee, and black tea. The store is located in JR Isetan, making it easy to buy before boarding the Shinkansen.

I purchased the following four items: ① Yuzu Fuwari: Sweet potato, red bean paste ② Toji: Snow peas, white bean paste ③ Setsurin: Sweet potato, red bean paste ④ Tōtsubaki: Outside, white bean paste. All of the wagashi were delicious. My personal favorite is probably ② "Toji".

"This might be better than your average peach jelly." That's how I felt when I discovered this peach yokan at a store I visited this time. On this day of the Obon festival, I visited JR Kyoto Isetan underground in search of Kyoto souvenirs, and at this store called "Sasaya Iori," I was drawn to a yokan that caught my eye, along with the limited edition yokan called "Gosan no Kage" inspired by the Gozan no Okuribi. While "Gosan no Kage" was available at other "Sasaya Iori" stores, "Momoyurari" was a yokan exclusive to the JR Kyoto Isetan store. As for the peach-flavored yokan, I have previously tried the "Momono Ka" from another Kyoto confectionery long-established store called "Kameya Yoshinaga." However, while "Momono Ka" consists of peach yokan layered with Calpis-flavored Kinako yokan, white peaches simmered in white wine, and sliced lemon, the yokan I purchased this time from Iori combines peach-colored yokan with transparent yokan containing peach pulp. Not only in appearance but also in taste, I felt that it had a more peach-like flavor. On the other hand, the "Gosan no Kage" that I purchased together is a combination of azuki bean yokan and Kinako yokan, with characters or pictures representing the actual Daimonji, Myoho, Funagata, Hidari Daimonji, and Torii fires. Its refined sweetness and the design that is almost too beautiful to cut make it a perfect souvenir for friends, colleagues, and others. While "Momoyurari" will be discontinued after the Obon season, I was informed by the staff that they have been selling it for the past few years and will likely continue to do so next year. For those who are interested in "Gosan no Kage" and "Momoyurari," please consider this information.

Sasaya Iori is a famous traditional Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto, known for their dorayaki at the main store near Toji Temple. One popular item is the Iori Mizuyokan, a refreshing summer sweet with a smooth texture and a subtle sweetness. Another favorite is the matcha-flavored version, offering a rich matcha flavor with a gentle sweetness. Both treats are not overly sweet and delicious. These sweets are highly recommended as gifts for the summer season.

On the way back from my hometown, I bought a box of sweets at Kyoto Isetan before boarding the Shinkansen at Kyoto Station. I purchased one box as a souvenir for the dog training school teacher who looked after my dog for a week, and another box for myself as a treat. I received two boxes in total. The sweets were a trendy fusion of Western and Japanese styles, with a delicious sweet potato filling.

I was supposed to be in Shiga, but somehow ended up in Kyoto. I went shopping at the usual Kyoto Daimaru. [Summary] Yuzu Haneju 162 yen - Seven mochi balls with a diameter of about 10mm. They have a chewy texture like a combination of mochi and uiro, with a light fruity freshness and decent deliciousness. They can last for about a month. Kinako mochi 162 yen - Mochi balls coated with kinako powder. Enjoy them with sweet black syrup. They have a slightly firmer texture than the yuzu ones. These can also last for about a month.

I had been waiting for the perfect timing to try this snack. It is only sold on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of every month. Unlike the typical dorayaki, this one is unique. While regular dorayaki resembles a temple gong, this one is cooked on top of a gong, resulting in thin layers of dough stacked on top of each other. A mildly sweet bean paste is then rolled up in it like a stick. When eating, it is recommended to cut it with a knife on a bamboo leaf to avoid sticky hands. Although I had it at room temperature, it was still chewy, especially in the summer. It pairs well with a good Japanese tea. It's a taste of tradition from a long-established shop.

I purchased the limited edition dorayaki from Sasa-ya Iori, which is only sold for 3 days each month at JR Isetan. Originally, it was only sold on the 21st of each month to coincide with the anniversary of Kobo Daishi, but since 1975, it has been available from the 20th to the 22nd of each month. The dorayaki originated when Sasa-ya Ihei was asked by a monk from Toji Temple to make a sweet, and he made it on a copper gong, hence the name "dorayaki." Unlike typical dorayaki, this one has a long cylindrical shape and is wrapped with sweet red bean paste in a wood grain-like pattern. The dough is very chewy, similar to mochi, and pairs well with the mildly sweet red bean paste. It's a perfect treat to enjoy with rich matcha tea and would make a great souvenir.

Located on the basement floor of Kyoto Isetan adjacent to JR Kyoto Station, this shop offers a specialty treat from a renowned Kyoto confectionery with a history dating back to 1716. Their famous item is a stick-shaped dorayaki that is only available on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of each month, priced at 1,620 yen per piece including tax. I made a reservation in advance to secure my purchase. Originally created as a side dish for the monks of Toji Temple, this delicacy differs from the typical round shape by being in a stick form. It is wrapped in bamboo skin, allowing for a clean eating experience without getting your hands dirty. The outer skin of the sweet is chewy, similar to mochi, while the refined taste of the red bean paste inside complements it perfectly. It is truly a delicious treat. The shop provides attentive customer service, and although the price is a bit high, I would definitely purchase it again.

Kyoto limited spring confectionery Sasaya Iori "Heian Sashi" is a vibrant sweet with a design shaped like a copper coin. The outer sakura bean paste and inner coarse bean paste pair very well with green tea. Heian Sashi is a spring limited confectionery from Kyoto, with Sasaya Iori's store located on the east side of Heian-kyo = Sashi, and was known as the oldest confectionery craftsman remaining in that area, hence the title "Heian Sashi Iiten Kasho Saikyo Roppyo Sasaya Iori". 4 pieces for 1000 yen (excluding tax) @ Sasaya Iori

I have never seen my favorite cherry blossom products at the department stores in Umeda or Namba that I often visit, so I decided to purchase them. The cherry blossom anko in the products is moist and has a hint of cherry blossom flavor. The green outer dough crumbles softly and has a delicate texture. They are different from regular steamed buns and are delicious. The cherry blossom anko in the cherry blossom pies is the same as in the steamed buns. The pie crust is not crispy but has a moist texture with a slight eggy taste. The appearance of the cherry blossom-shaped "Iori" is cute. It has smooth red bean paste inside the cherry blossom-colored paste. The round shape makes it easy to eat. The cherry blossom "Doamigashi" has a jelly-like texture with a slight mochi-like quality. The presence of grains may be due to the inclusion of Doamigashi inside. The red bean paste inside is smooth. Among all the products, I liked this one the most. All of these products are cherry blossom-themed, but each has its own unique texture and dough, offering different ways to enjoy them. Not only do they taste good, but they also look cute, making them perfect for serving to guests during a tea break or a chat session.

"It's a design that seems common but actually unique, isn't it? At 'Sasaya Iori' that day, I found a confectionery resembling a lion dance, perfect for New Year's. While you may come across confections resembling daruma at other shops, a lion dance one is quite rare, I believe. At least for me, this confection was a first. This particular confection belongs to the category of 'Momoyama', a type of half-baked confectionery in Japanese sweets, where white bean paste is mixed with sugar and egg yolk, then shaped in a mold and baked using an open flame. The 'lion dance' I received this time was made with the addition of matcha. For those looking for a different New Year's confection, or those who are interested, I recommend giving it a try."

While taking a leisurely stroll at JR Kyoto Isetan, I decided to stop by Sasaya Iori in the underground food market. I found a limited edition item at this shop. Since it's hot out, I chose to purchase the refreshing Peach Yurari, which looked cool and perfect for summer. The peach-colored appearance was refreshing and ideal for the season.

~Iori Sasaya's Dorayaki~ Limited edition available only on the 20th to 22nd of every month ♬ I got this during a funeral in Kyoto. Wait, this is dorayaki!? Yes, this is dorayaki ♬ It comes in a long stick shape, and you cut it into pieces. The skin is not sponge-like, but chewy, and the sweet bean paste is not too sweet, with a substantial texture. In the cold season, you can warm it up in the microwave and enjoy it with warm tea. It's a heartwarming Kyoto experience. Thank you for the meal~
