The place uses a deposit card system, but it's cute so it's worth the 400 yen. You can charge 1200 yen, 3000 yen, etc., and choose your desired amount from the dispenser. They have various sizes starting from 30ml, so you can try different options. They also have some snacks, making it a perfect spot for a light lunch drink. When I was there, the customers were mainly foreigners who had just finished a brewery tour. They seemed very eager to learn and were asking lots of questions, which was interesting to observe.

I visited in the evening. There were many foreigners and it was lively. The stylish glasses and atmosphere, along with the English-speaking staff, made me think that this sake brewery is working hard. It was a prepaid system. I would like to come with my family and enjoy comparing different kinds of sake.

I used to go to buy sake lees every year, but a few years ago they started offering tastings at the store, which I was curious about. I always go by motorcycle so I couldn't drink there... By chance, I had some business in Kawaramachi and my wish came true (laughs). It's a prepaid card system. If you buy 5000 yen, the card fee is free. I tried all the varieties (laughs). I also wanted to buy yuzu liqueur, but I ran out of balance and it was sold out on the shelf, so I will buy it next time I go to buy sake lees.

I visited a brewery established in the 11th year of the Kyoho era, by the banks of the Kamogawa River, that has reopened its tasting room. I tried five different types of sake, which were slightly sweeter compared to the restaurant-exclusive sake I had at Shimogamo Charyo. The place also serves as a sales outlet, so it was crowded with customers.

Good evening. I'm Kozue, a beauty acupuncture therapist. When I visited Kyoto the other day, I stopped by a sake brewery. This time, I visited Matsui Sake Brewery in Demachiyanagi-cho. Matsui Sake Brewery, founded in 1726, is an old established company that is also trying new things. Here, you can pay to taste sake, so this time I tried a tasting set of Matsui Sake Brewery's "Kamikura" series. The set included the following 5 types: - Junmai Unfiltered Sake "Kamikura" - Fujichitose "Hiyaoroshi" Junmai Ginjo Unfiltered Sake "Kamikura" - Junmai Nigori Sake - Fujichitose "Squeezed Fresh" Tasting different types of sake allows you to really feel the characteristics of each. It's also nice to be able to drink while listening to the stories and thoughts of the staff. My favorite was the Junmai Unfiltered Sake "Kamikura". However, for those who really love sake, I recommend the Junmai Ginjo Unfiltered Sake "Kamikura". Although it's about twice the price, it's worth it due to the different rice polishing ratio. I bought some as gifts and for enjoying at home. I definitely want to visit again when I go back to Kyoto. Thank you for the delicious experience.

In October 2021, I walked a little from Demachiyanagi Station and stopped at a bus stop before reaching the shop. I could see the Daimonji mountain. Inside the shop, I tried a tasting set of three different kinds of sake, with the staff explaining each one. It was delicious and cost 600 yen. Kyoto is known for producing delicious sake with a smooth taste, often used for shrine offerings. I decided to add a tasting set of five sakes, including cloudy ones. It cost 1000 yen. I particularly enjoyed the Kanzou Ruri, a clear and tasty sake that lifted my spirits. The staff advised me to keep it in the fridge once I got home. I ended up buying a bottle of Kanzou Shirobin Daiginjo, a special sake suitable for celebrations or gifts, even though it was a bit pricey. I also tried the Fujichitose Nigori, which had a nice rice flavor, as well as the Fujichitose Nigori Kasseika Namazake, which had a refreshing fizziness. The Fujichitose Hiyaroshi was also delicious. The staff asked if I had tried their sake before, but I hadn't. I visited the shop because it was close to a sake brewery I was interested in. I hope to try their sake next time. I bought some sake as souvenirs and then took a look along the river before heading back to Kyoto Station from the Kawabata Ichijo bus stop.

At the Setsubun festival at Yoshida Shrine, I enjoyed sake served in a masu cup at the food stalls. The aroma of the masu cup was nice and it enhanced the flavor. I plan to visit the shop next time to try different sakes with some snacks.

Near the Keihan Demachiyanagi Station, there is Matsui Sake Brewery. I tried a tasting set (1000 yen) at the dining space that occupies about half of the retail space. I compared 5 types of new sake in small cups, and could see the rich variety of flavors as they were brewed differently even within the same brand. I was told that the taste can vary depending on the brewing process, even with the same brand I had bought for home drinking before. I enjoyed hearing detailed explanations about the brewing process, so I look forward to more tasting experiences at the counter. Personally, I love the "Kamikura" series for its fresh floral notes and sweetness, but I also found other brands I liked during the tasting. It's unique to be able to buy one-liter bottles at reasonable prices at the brewery's direct sales store. One thing to note is that they close early, so if you visit in the evening after sightseeing, like I did, you may not be able to order food. It's better to think of it as a retail store with a spacious tasting area. They also sell a lot of stuffed animals, showing that they are preserving the tradition of sake while also trying new things for the new generation.

Keihan Electric Railway... On the final day of my stroll to Goshu-in, I visited 16 places near the station, which was convenient. The restaurant had a warm, family-like atmosphere, and all the appetizers were delicious. I would like to visit this restaurant again and take my time enjoying the food.

I received a bottle of Japanese sake from a friend, Matsui Shuzo's Fuji Chitose Nigori Sake. It is a limited edition for the winter season and I couldn't resist trying it early. I don't drink much alcohol, but this sake is sweet, easy to drink, and delicious! I was surprised by how good Japanese sake can be since I don't usually drink it. I would like to try other types of sake in the future. Thank you for the treat! (I received it as a gift, so I will not evaluate the cost performance.)

【Matsui Sake Brewery】A long-established sake brewery in the heart of Kyoto! They are the official suppliers to famous shrines and temples. These include Sokoku-ji, Kinkaku-ji in Kitayama, Ginkaku-ji in Higashiyama, as well as Kamigamo Shrine, Shimogamo Shrine, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Yoshida Shrine, Matsuo Shrine, and Iwakura Hachimangu Shrine. The shop was founded in 1726 and has a history of about 280 years. They are currently dedicated to handcrafting Kyoto's local sake. The brands that have been passed down since the founding include "Fuji Chitose" and "Kyoto Chitose," along with 15 other types of sake. Starting from November to January, they specially brew a sake with gold leaf ordered by Kinkaku-ji, perfect for auspicious occasions and New Year's toasts. They also brew a special junmai ginjo sake with silver leaf ordered by Ginkaku-ji. This sake is available in 350ml, 720ml, and 1.8L bottles, with "Kyoto Chitose" adorned with gold and silver leaf in a beautiful gift box! I happened to come across the shop by chance and decided to visit after a long time. For a lucky gift, they have the auspiciously named "Kagura," which is stored in a cold room at -5°C using a thermal tank that allows for low-temperature fermentation. Kagura is said to be stored at ice temperature. There are four types of Kagura available: junmai daiginjo, muroka nama genshu daiginjo, muroka nama genshu junmai, muroka nama genshu junmai dry. Kagura is my favorite sake in the city, very easy to drink. The daughter here is a talented graduate of a national music college. 【CARMEN. Shonan OPERA】The lead role of Carmen is played by the daughter, Mijiko Matsui. The opera "Carmen - The Woman of Destiny" composed by Bizet (Diagest version, performed in Japanese) is a delightful experience. The performance will be held on February 18, 2018, at Zushi Cultural Plaza, Nagisa Hall, with reserved seating and an entrance fee. It's been a while since I've seen such a lovely woman from Kyoto! She seems like she would look great with bright red roses. In twenty years, the mother of the daughter will be serving customers. After seeing her mother, let your creativity flow! Kagura refers to the Kaguraoka area around Yoshida-san. Kagura is always associated with the gods, so dance and music are also common in Carmen. Matsuo-san is the god of sake.♪♪♪ "My name is Carmen. Of course, it's a nickname, isn't it?" ♪♪♪

I drank a Junmai Daiginjo Kagura polished to 50% at a sake bar in Kitashinchi called Sake Murasaki. I had always thought that Sasaki Shuzo in Rakuchu was the only sake brewery in the area. Sasaki Kosuke's family, the owner of the brewery, is located in the school district where I went to elementary school, so I have known this brewery for a long time. On a day off, I decided to go buy some sake. To my surprise, the brewery was located near Demachiyanagi, and I had never noticed it before. The exterior looks like an apartment building, and the first floor looks like a regular liquor store, so it's understandable that I never noticed it before. The brewery was founded in 1726 in Hyogo Prefecture and moved to Kyoto in the early 1800s. In the late Taisho era, it moved to its current location. The brewery was temporarily closed for a period of time and was revived in 2010 with a skilled sake brewer known as one of the Four Heavenly Brewers of Noto. The brewery is small, with only six tanks and an annual production of 300 koku, and their sake is not widely available outside of Kyoto. However, they have won awards at the National New Sake Competition for two consecutive years since their revival. The 15th generation is currently serving as the sake brewer. The brewery uses a unique brewing method that allows them to produce sake year-round using thermal tanks with temperature control, unlike traditional breweries that peak in the winter. The brewery also uses solar panels to supply 60% of its electricity and LED lighting to reduce UV exposure to the sake. This allows them to achieve more than four times the efficiency and continue to aim for higher quality sake. Another brewery that uses a similar method is Asahi Shuzo in Iwakuni, known for their famous "Dassai" sake. The water used in brewing comes from an underground source in Kamogawa, near the Imperial Palace. There is also a famous spring called "Nashiki Shrine" near the Imperial Palace, which is one of the three famous springs in Kyoto. The brewery has been featured on NHK's show "Ee Toko" with Ayumi Sugimoto and Kazuma Katsumata, and the model in the poster is the young proprietress. If this beautiful lady served me delicious sake every night, I would surely become a regular customer. I chose to drink the Fujichitose Junmai Nigori Sake, which is a lively sake with active bottle fermentation. This nigori sake is used as the ceremonial sake for the Setsubun Festival at Yoshida Shrine, the birthplace of the festival. To open the bottle, you have to release some gas from the bottle and close it repeatedly. The label states that it takes 15 minutes for the fermentation to complete, but even with caution, the sake still bursts out when opened. It has a slight sweetness and is reminiscent of the carbonated drink "Squall." Among the carbonated sakes I have tried, this one surpasses the following two in terms of deliciousness: Otoko Yamahana Kanon sparkling Junmai sake by Eiyama Honke Sake Brewery in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and Dassai Sparkling Nigori Sake 50 at Tenma Rakuen. I also enjoyed the freshly squeezed Junmai Daiginjo Kagura sake, which is unfiltered and made from Kyoto-grown rice milled to 50%. It was squeezed on January 31st, and only comes in a 720ml bottle for retail, with the 1.8L bottle available for commercial use only. I have let it age a bit, so I am looking forward to enjoying it now.

A souvenir from my mother in Kyoto. We opened it to celebrate our 12-year-old dog's good health after a check-up, and also to toast our wedding anniversary. The label reads: "Kinkaku-ji Temple, a World Heritage Site, reflects the splendor of the Kitayama culture. Matsui Shuzo has a deep connection with the main temple, Sojiji, and has been appointed the official supplier for generations. Matsui's name is inscribed at the top of the third floor of the Golden Pavilion, as a testament to their efforts in the reconstruction of Kinkaku-ji Temple. Matsui Shuzo is the only sake brewery appointed by both Kinkaku-ji Temple and Ginkaku-ji Temple." The sake had gold flakes in it, giving it a festive feel. It's only sold during New Year and cherry blossom season. The taste was average, but it lifted our spirits. Thank you for the meal! 🍶

☆Mrs. and I took a casual lunch trip in Kyoto (Demachiyanagi)!: As a big fan of "kasujiru" and "tonjiru", I often find myself craving the hearty flavors of these soups. So, I often wander around sake breweries in search of sake lees. ・Small sake breweries don't produce a lot of sake lees, so they tend to run out quickly during certain seasons (around November to March, depending on the shop). Luckily, I managed to get some in time this time. ・Matsumi Sake Brewery, founded in the 11th year of the Hōreki era, has been around for quite a long time. $ Order! ※"Daiginjo Sake Lees" 500 yen... 3.1: This sake lees is from "Ōmon Jinzō", and I had them make kasujiru for me. I used ingredients like taro, burdock, thin fried tofu, daikon radish, and carrots to bring out the flavors of the sake lees. ・It had a very straightforward and mild taste. It was so mild that even those who don't usually enjoy kasujiru might like this one. Conclusion: I wonder when kasujiru was first made. Has it been around for over 400 years? I've tried kasujiru from various sake breweries, and each one has a unique and delicious taste. I may not be able to tell the difference in taste from year to year, but it would be interesting to learn more about it. ♪ Thank you for always liking, saving, and following. If you have any recommendations, feel free to share them in the comments. Thank you all for your continued support.

At the Setsubun festival at Yoshida Shrine♪ At this time, the news about the coronavirus had just started, so there were still a lot of people around. Many people were not wearing masks, and it was quite crowded with even demons walking around (lol). On the steep slope on the way to Oomoto Shrine, Matsui Sake Brewery had a sake stall set up. They were serving masu sake, cloudy sake, freshly squeezed sake, and more, all for just 500 yen per cup, poured generously. You have to be careful not to bump into people. It was so crowded with people. A little further ahead, there was a small embankment with makeshift tables made from overturned beer crates. We sat there and enjoyed our drinks. Across from us was Yamagata's famous konjac and next to it was simmered beef tendons. We bought those too and brought some snacks. It was a feast! The cloudy sake was delicious! Having sake in the afternoon was a luxury. And the konjac and beef tendons were exquisite! The meat was seriously delicious. I didn't pay attention to the shop's name, so I don't know it. Enjoyed a fun Setsubun with top-notch sake and food☆

Happy New Year. I bought a bottle of "Kamikura" from Matsui Shuzo in Kyoto on January 2nd on the Shinkansen from Okayama to Hakata. It is a limited edition sale on the Sanyo Shinkansen, priced at 600 yen for 150ml. The bottle is navy blue with a matching label, featuring the characters "Kamikura" written by the calligrapher Shifune. Although "Kamikura" is usually a Daiginjo sake polished to 35%, this one is polished to 50%. While the ingredients are not specified, it is likely a Junmai Daiginjo made from rice and rice koji. It has an alcohol content of 17% and a sake meter value of around +3. It has a rich flavor reminiscent of white wine and was so delicious that I finished it quickly. The reserved seats were full, so I took the Sakura car and enjoyed a leisurely ride in a 2 x 2 seat configuration.

I attended a small gathering and was shown around a sake brewery. I never expected to find a sake brewery here, located on the first floor of an apartment building on the way from Higashi Ichijo to Kawaramachi Street. It has a history of over 300 years. The inside looked just like the outside, like a metallic factory. I paid a fee and got to taste some sake. The Daiginjo Kagura had a rich aroma and was light and dry... I think that's how you describe it. It was delicious. I believe it was over 5000 yen per bottle. I used to think that alcohol-free was better, but I learned that when you filter the raw sake, the aroma sticks to the sake lees. So they flow alcohol through it to wash it away. It was an educational experience. It seems that you can arrange a tour with a reservation for three or more people.
