The exterior is modest. The quirky name "Makiato" means "coffee with a stain." But looking at the menu, they also have beer and whiskey, making it a chic cafe for adults. Despite its retro and stylish appearance, it naturally blends into the city of Kyoto. Inside the shop, there is a long counter. During dusk, there were no customers yet, and time passed quietly. Along the way, we spotted Nakamura Macchiato where two of us enjoyed an Espresso Coffee (450 yen) and a Macchiato (550 yen) with a side of chocolate. The prices included tax. It was just past 7 pm on a holiday, and there were two other customers at the counter who seemed to be regulars, chatting loudly. The dim lighting created a calm atmosphere, so the noise didn't bother us much. Our orders arrived in less than 15 minutes, and we were able to leave the restaurant in under 30 minutes. It seems like they are open late and have a quiet, nice ambiance, so we are looking forward to visiting again after our next meal.

I have visited this place several times. On this day, I had a straight coffee for ¥450. The beans are from Toraja, a region in Indonesia. They grind the beans after you place your order. This place is more like a bar than a cafe, with operating hours starting from 2:00 pm. The master even sees you off outside when you leave! There are 5 red and black stools lined up neatly at the counter. There are also tables for 2 or 4 people. No magazines or newspapers in sight. I feel like visiting occasionally. Next time, I want to stop by for drinks in the evening. I want to become the kind of adult who fits in at this kind of place.

It looked like an old-fashioned bar from the outside, so I was unsure if they actually served coffee. I hesitantly opened the door and was pleasantly surprised by the charming interior. When I asked the master if I could have coffee, he warmly replied, "Of course, no problem!" The cozy interior had two tables and about six seats at the counter. In addition to coffee and cocoa, they also had a variety of beers including German beer on the menu. Although I originally planned to have coffee, I was drawn to the beer options and decided to have a drink even though it was still daytime. The beer was delicious and perfectly chilled. I'll have coffee next time for sure!
