Location ★★★☆☆
A little walk from Kyoto Station but close!
Price ★★★☆☆
Morning set is affordable.
Atmosphere ★★★★☆
Old-fashioned! The interior is calm. You can't stay for a long time. The kind atmosphere is probably created by the elderly waiter. Good.
Impression
The toast is average. However, the coffee has a strong bean flavor and a solid bitterness, making it delicious.

I visited a retro café near my hotel and had a heartwarming experience. The egg toast was made with fluffy and crispy toasted bread, thin layers of scrambled egg, cucumber, and a touch of mustard mayo. The American coffee was also easy to drink and enjoyable. I prefer this kind of nostalgic café over trendy ones, it suits my taste. It's amazing to find such a place near the station, it's truly appreciated. I'll remember this place.

I like traditional cafes with a local feel, so I searched and visited this place. It's located a short walk downhill from Kyoto Station, in a corner of a hotel with a white sign (above ground) as a landmark. I arrived around 4 pm on a Saturday and the place was about 80-90% full. The staff, a husband and wife, provided a warm and welcoming service. I ordered the curry (with egg) and a coffee. The curry was a bit disappointing as it lacked ingredients and was slightly sweet rather than medium spicy, with a texture that was too thin. The portion was small, so even women might find it unsatisfying. The addition of a raw egg was a new experience for me and surprisingly enjoyable. The coffee blend was delicious! Priced at 370 yen per cup, it was a great value for a cafe. The aroma was strong, with a good balance of acidity and smoothness, making it easy to drink. The milk was served in a milk pitcher, which added to the nostalgic cafe experience with siphon coffee makers and a traditional counter. I believe there was a time limit for staying, but overall, it was a satisfying experience.

This is a Showa-style coffee shop located in the same building as Hotel Keihan Kyoto and Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank on the south side of Kyoto Station. It is conveniently located near the Shinkansen exit of Kyoto Station and the limousine bus stop from Itami Airport, making it easy for people coming from afar to visit. Inside, it feels like a coffee shop from the Showa era. They serve breakfast until 11 am. The iced coffee is an extra 20 yen, but you get toast and a boiled egg for 480 yen (cheap!). As soon as I found it, I was drawn in. There are people reading manga, chatting, working (like me), and more. There used to be many coffee shops like this, but they have become rare. I hope this shop continues to thrive. Please note that smoking is allowed, so it may be tough for non-smokers. It's different from a hookah, so it's up to your preference. This place is convenient for waiting for buses or the Shinkansen. I will definitely visit again when I have the chance to go to Kyoto! Thank you for the meal!

It's a cool coffee shop where a middle-aged man with a sports newspaper in hand fits right in and smoking is allowed. Run by a friendly older lady and the master, we shared egg fried rice and spaghetti (Napolitan) for breakfast. It's an old-fashioned coffee shop.

The location is close to the station and smoking is allowed. Is it really this cheap and good? I thought the morning service was cheap, but the drinks are also inexpensive. This time, I had a station bento and I'm full. I'll save the morning service for the next time.

Located in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, "Junkissa Minami" is a retro-style coffee shop. It is situated on the 1st floor of Kyoto Avanti, right in front of JR Kyoto Station. The interior features a counter and table seating, with a unique smoking policy that allows smoking inside. Although the decor is reminiscent of the Showa era, the shop used to accept paypay until September 2021. I visited around 11 am on a weekday and found that about half of the customers were elderly locals enjoying horse racing predictions while smoking. I ordered a blend coffee for 350 yen, which was a fair price. If I had come a bit earlier, I could have enjoyed their morning special. The master wearing a bow tie added a nice touch to the experience. Thank you for the meal.

In the morning in Kyoto, I saw a coffee shop sign that said "tamaya coffee" on my way to Kyoto Station. Since I have a favorite wine bar called tamaya in Ueno, Tokyo, I decided to visit this coffee shop as a fun little coincidence. The coffee shop had an L-shaped counter with 6 seats, 5 tables, and a TV. I ordered their morning set (460 yen including tax) which included toast, boiled egg, and a drink. It was nice to experience a traditional coffee shop atmosphere. It had been 3 years since I last had a morning set at a traditional coffee shop in Osaka. Recently, there has been a trend of "impure coffee shops" in Tokyo, but I prefer the nostalgic feel of a traditional coffee shop. In the early morning, locals gathered at the shop, reading newspapers while enjoying their morning coffee and cigarettes. The mix of coffee and cigarette smells in a coffee shop is unique and nostalgic. This coffee shop seemed like an oasis for the locals in the area, and I enjoyed the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere of Kyoto in the morning.

There is no parking lot, but there is a menu with a variety of options. I don't usually walk to the station, but I decided to visit this café after a meal. It seems to have been around since the Showa era, a true old-fashioned coffee shop. When I ordered a cinnamon coffee, there was an ashtray on the table... unexpectedly, it's a rare smoking-friendly establishment. I love the nostalgic atmosphere. They offer sandwiches, spaghetti, cream soda, and more at reasonable prices. I hope this place continues to thrive. I understand it must be tough during the pandemic, but please keep up the good work, Master. I will visit again.

Visited at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. One customer was already there. Located in the front of Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit, on the first floor of a commercial building called Kyoto Avanti. Surprisingly, despite being so close to Kyoto Station and having an atmosphere that seems to have been in business for many years, this restaurant was not registered on Tabelog. Upon entering the restaurant, there were several table seats and counter seats. The manager had a slicked-back hairstyle and a sharp appearance, giving off a traditional coffee shop vibe. The service was provided by a casually dressed woman in jeans, who moved swiftly. They seemed to be a married couple. The interior of the restaurant was filled with a nostalgic Showa era atmosphere. The lingering smell of nicotine suggested that the restaurant had been operating as a full non-smoking establishment for many years. It would be best for those who dislike cigarettes to avoid this place. The companion ordered the Morning Set with a boiled egg for 440 yen. Without the egg, it was 410 yen. I ordered the "Pizza-style Toast" for 460 yen and American coffee for 350 yen. Both dishes were simply delicious.
