Today's lunch was at "Gyoza-dokoro Taihachi" in Nishinokyo, Chukyo-ku, located just down from the Nishikojishin-Nijo intersection. It's a gyoza specialty shop with a simple exterior but a unique logo. The interior is a bit messy, with two table seats near the entrance and a counter in the back. The menu is simple, offering only ramen and gyoza. They also have a seasonal limited cold noodles option. I chose the "cold noodles + gyoza" set for 1200 yen. There are various seasonings lined up in front of you. You can hear the sound of frying the rolled omelet. It seems like they fry them one by one. The cooking process takes quite some time as it seems to be operated by one person. The gyoza is served first. They are small in size with a chewy skin and a generous filling. The cold noodles are packed with ingredients like a large amount of cucumber, thick rolled omelet, chashu, tomato, etc. The noodles are soft and not easily separated. The soup also has a unique taste. I was able to conquer the gyoza from a specialty shop.

This is a family-friendly restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. They have a wide variety of dumplings on the menu, all of which are delicious. My favorite is the garlic dumplings, while my wife loves the leek and pork dumplings. The other appetizers and noodle dishes are also quite tasty. I recommend trying the Tianjin fried rice for 650 yen after having some drinks.

On a rainy weekday, I stopped by during my collection rounds. It was past 1 PM and the place was empty. The TV was playing loudly. The master seemed a bit reserved at first glance, but he was actually polite in his responses. I sat at the counter and was served a large glass of cold water, which was much appreciated on a hot day. I ordered the lunch set which included two servings of dumplings for ¥550. The dumplings were light on garlic but tasty with chewy skin. The portion size might be a bit small for some, but you can add extra rice or different types of dumplings for more satisfaction. Personally, I would have preferred the dumplings with garlic.

I was planning to go to Shigechan Shokudo nearby, but since the item I wanted was sold out, I found another restaurant while exploring and decided to give it a try. There was only one other group dining when we were there. I ordered the Ramen Set Meal (ramen + 1 serving of gyoza + rice + pickled vegetables) for 720 yen, while my partner ordered the Gyoza Set Meal (2 servings of gyoza + tamagoyaki + rice + pickled vegetables + soup) for 550 yen. The owner was the only one running the place, but the service was not too slow. The prices of the set meals were quite reasonable, but overall, the taste seemed to match the price. The ramen, although not from a specialty shop, had noodles that were too soft and a soup that tasted like light soy sauce, which was hard to describe. The gyoza had a greasy texture as the skin was not crispy. The filling was tasty though, so it felt like a waste. The pickled vegetables were zasai, but the taste was also hard to describe. The presentation of the gyoza seemed sloppy, and the mayonnaise on the lettuce garnish seemed like it was applied by a child at home, which was disappointing.

I visited this gyoza restaurant on my day off recently. I noticed it before, but this time I saw a sign saying "Gyoza 100 yen" outside. It turns out that on the 8th of every month, one serving is only 100 yen, and you can order up to 6 servings per person. I ordered two servings of gyoza and a bottle of beer. The restaurant had a small counter with about 4 seats, and four tables with 4 seats each. While sipping on my beer, I waited for the gyoza to cook, and during that time, many customers came in for takeout. Finally, the gyoza was ready! Each serving had 5 small gyoza, but at this price, it was a great deal. They provided gyoza sauce on the table, and I enjoyed it with vinegar and pepper as well. The gyoza was mainly made of cabbage, light and easy to eat a lot. There were different types like garlic, leek, etc., so you can enjoy a variety of flavors. They also had other dishes like ramen and fried rice. I also got 3 servings to go for my wife, and she found it easy to eat and the taste was decent. In total, I paid 900 yen for 5 servings of gyoza and a bottle of beer, with an additional 20 yen for the takeout box. The beer was 380 yen. It was a pleasant afternoon on my day off. Thank you for the meal.

Let's write a review for "Taihachi" in Kyoto. Located on Kasuga Street near Shimadzu Corporation. I was drawn to the discounted lunch set for miso ramen and decided to try it out before heading home one night. The discount is only available during lunch hours, but I was craving the "Kohoku-style additive-free miso" ramen ever since I saw the sign. The homemade gyoza is small but delicious! The miso ramen was a unique and gentle flavor that can only be found here. The couples on both sides seemed like regulars, and the dishes they ordered looked different from the usual. The young master seemed a bit unfriendly at first glance, but I felt that wasn't the case. He seemed to understand the taste and preferences of young people well. I only got a whiff of the Chinese dishes ordered by the other customers, but they looked and smelled delicious. It's not a place where you can drink and leave (unless you take the subway or walk), so alcohol is not served. There seem to be various interesting suggestions and ideas in place, so it might be worth stopping by and checking out the place from the outside.

The taste is very polite. At first glance, it's just ramen and gyoza, but when you eat it, it has a comforting taste as if the kindness of the manager is being conveyed to you.
