On Friday, March 24, 2023, I went flower viewing at Heian Shrine and then headed west. I walked along the Biwako Sosui canal on Reisen Street, where the cherry blossom trees were amazing. I arrived at Kamogawa River and continued south along Kawabata Street, where the cherry blossom trees were stunning. I then headed south on a narrow road on the east bank of the river. I crossed the Nijo Ohashi Bridge and walked along Kiyamachi Street, known for its many cabaret clubs. As I walked south on Kiyamachi Street, I started to feel tired. The cherry blossom trees along Takase River were incredible, and I saw some excited foreigners (Caucasian men) taking photos. I decided to take a break as I had walked all the way from Heian Shrine. After some wandering, I decided to eat at a curry restaurant. I ordered the tonkatsu curry and found it to be sweet at first but then spicy. It was an interesting curry experience. The restaurant was run by a woman, possibly the owner. There were two other customers, a young woman dining alone and a man dining alone. It was around 3 pm on a weekday, and seeing a young woman dining alone at that time was surreal. I left the restaurant after a satisfying meal and restroom break. I then planned to continue walking south along Takase River, but decided to take a taxi from Oike Street to Nijo Castle for another sightseeing stop. Nijo Castle was vast, with a 3-kilometer perimeter. That day, I visited several cherry blossom spots: Maruyama Park, Honen-in Temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace, the site of the Konoefu, Heian Shrine, and finally Nijo Castle. In the evening, I dined at Mino Yoshi Karasuma Shijo branch, enjoying dishes like abalone, eel, wagyu beef, softshell turtle, lobster, and fatty tuna in a large private room. Kyoto sightseeing was a blast!
