Kyoto Station, located in the Kintetsu Meiten-gai Miyakomichi, there is a Harves Kyoto store. It has a decent size and a variety of souvenirs available. There is another Harves store in a slightly different location, and the items they have are also different which is interesting. Here are the main items I bought for myself from the two stores:
- Mosaic Rusks 388 yen
- Roasted Chestnut 388 yen
- Handmade Onigiri (Spicy) 108 yen
- Handmade Onigiri (Mentaiko) 108 yen
- Yatsuhashi Chocolate (10 pieces) 540 yen
In addition to these, I also purchased some snacks for gifts, easily spending over 10,000 yen... The line at the register was really long, with dozens of people waiting in line. After paying, I tried one of the onigiri on the way. They are small-sized onigiri but the way they are packed is just right, not too tight, and easy to eat. The rice is of average quality, but since they make a lot at once, it tastes good. Overall, it was quite satisfying.
These were actually recommended by an acquaintance. They preferred the handmade onigiri over the more common pre-packaged film-wrapped onigiri available at the same store. Now, onto the snacks...
The Mosaic Rusks are cute looking cakes made from castella. They are a bit too sweet for my liking, and the texture is a bit powdery, so not the best.
The Roasted Chestnut is a chestnut-shaped steamed bun with a sweet chestnut filling and the dough goes well with it. It has a simple and nice taste, perfect with tea.
I chose the Yatsuhashi Chocolate flavor. The Yatsuhashi lady looks quite realistic and a bit scary (laughs). The combination of soft chocolate and Yatsuhashi is quite nice. There are many varieties of Yatsuhashi available nowadays, and I bought several different ones. Yatsuhashi, like Momiji Manju, has many variations and derivative products, so there's a lot to choose from (laughs). Among these, I think the Yatsuhashi is the best. There are many different types of Yatsuhashi available, and I bought several different ones. These kinds of snacks have a wide variety of products, just like Momiji Manju, so I ended up buying a lot more than just these.
