It's chilly, so I feel like having a hot and hearty miso ramen. I recently tried miso ramen with butter and it was incredibly delicious, so I searched on Tabelog to see if there are any good miso butter ramen places in Kyoto. And I found one! It's a chain of miso ramen specialty shops. The nearest one is located between Daikoku Ramen and Dainaka in Fushimi-ku, a place I had passed by before but never visited. I arrived around 7 PM and sat at the counter to look at the menu. They had Shinshu miso, Hokkaido miso, Kyushu barley miso, and even (maybe limited) Hiroshima miso ramen. Each miso ramen came with vegetables, meat, green onions, miso-marinated seared chashu, and set menus. I was torn between choices, but since it was my first time, I went with Hokkaido miso ramen with a generous portion of miso-marinated chashu and added butter on top. While waiting, I checked the table condiments - shichimi, chili oil, and vinegar. When the Hokkaido miso miso-marinated chashu ramen (large serving, with butter topping) arrived, it was bigger than I expected. Under the butter were minced meat, fried onions, bean sprouts, and wait, KFC's potato chips! Yes, there were KFC potato chips in the ramen, along with 3 slices of seared chashu in the bowl. I started by tasting the soup, which was supposed to be rich Hokkaido miso but didn't taste too strong of miso. However, when I melted the mesmerizing butter into it, the rich flavor and aroma of butter combined with the miso created a deliciously rich soup. The minced meat, bean sprouts, and surprisingly, the KFC potato chips all went well together. The noodles were curly and medium-thick, a classic choice for miso ramen. They paired perfectly with this soup. The seared chashu was fragrant from being seared, but it was a bit dry for my liking. I would have preferred a fattier chashu. I added shichimi halfway through for a spicy flavor change. I finished the hearty miso ramen with lots of toppings and felt satisfied. Next time, I want to try a different miso flavor. Miso and butter - whoever came up with this combination is a genius! Thank you for the delicious meal!
