On the second night, a visit to this charming restaurant for a late-night snack is a must. While oden is a popular choice, the simmered dishes are truly delicious and go well with drinks. A highly recommended way to enjoy them is to pour the oden broth over rice, creating a rich and satisfying flavor that will leave you wanting more! This restaurant is sure to become your go-to spot. Thank you for the meal!

I'm full after eating sukiyaki, but I have to go here. I went to Yamaguchi Nishi store! It's been a while~! I used to go here every day when I was in Kyoto. The oden and tulip here are the best! The taste hasn't changed, it's still reliable. It was delicious ⭐︎ I will go again♪

Before going to the club, I had a drink here. It's been a while since I visited "Yamaguchi Nishiten" - such a nostalgic place. It's a relaxing spot. Right now, this place is so calming. The oden is delicious and reasonably priced. Everything here is tasty and affordable, the best. I love the tulip fried chicken. Thanks for the great meal today! (^人^)

A famous restaurant known for its chicken broth oden and tulip dishes! The side dishes are also amazing and the prices are very reasonable! The food is really delicious, and the chicken broth oden soup after drinking is the best!! If you go to Kyoto, you must visit this restaurant!

I have visited this restaurant several times, but I went there again after a long time! The restaurant is located in Gion and has a traditional Japanese atmosphere. I love their oden, and even after not having it for a while, it still tasted delicious *\(^o^)/* Also, their tulip dish is very tasty and highly recommended! It goes well with alcohol. Thank you for the meal!

A friend took me to this restaurant, "Yamaguchi Nishi-ten." It seems like there may be other branches, but I'm not sure. We were seated in a tatami room at the back and toasted with highballs. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, with a wide variety of dishes that left us feeling satisfied both in our stomachs and hearts. The dishes had a unique twist on traditional favorites, making for a fun meal that flowed smoothly with the drinks and conversation. We ate until we were stuffed and enjoyed every bite. Thank you for the feast!

I felt like having oden for the third time, so I visited this place. I sat in a tatami room instead of at the counter. The hot carpet was laid out, warm and comfortable. I had daikon and tofu oden. It was lightly seasoned and delicious. The lettuce with meat miso salad was different from what I expected - you dip the lettuce in the meat miso before eating. The taste was so-so. The simmered sardine was so tender that it made me crave rice. It's a popular dish here. The kaya rice was sold out, so I ordered the tekka don. The marinated tuna was flavorful and satisfying. The miso soup was a bit salty. I also ordered the simmered dried radish and spinach, but overall, everything except the oden seemed a bit too strong in flavor.

I had dried baby sardines for 440 yen, inari-yaki for 500 yen, and two hot sakes for 430 yen each. The total was 1,510 yen. It's been about 25 years since I last visited this place in Gion. There are more places now where you can drink without worrying too much about the price, but back then, there were only a few. It's a rare place where you can drink slowly and quietly, and it really calms your heart.

[Overall Review] Located about a 7-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station in Kyoto, this restaurant is a hidden gem that truly embodies the essence of Kyoto. It's tucked away in the back of a building, in a rather peculiar location that might be hard to find. The area is filled with narrow winding streets, but this restaurant is even further hidden in an odd spot (^_^;) It's like a corner of the building's property, yet there's this cool izakaya just standing there mysteriously.-----------------------------------------It's a bit north from Shijo Street, down a small alley. The restaurant is located in a somewhat obscure spot within the building's premises. It's a regular building, but with a deep layout and several eateries facing the corridor. You might not notice it at first glance (^_^;) The large indigo noren curtain and folk-style facade add to its hidden gem charm. Inside, there are 9 counter seats and 3 raised tatami seating areas. There seems to be a second-floor seating area as well, judging by the shoe rack. The interior has a cool, slightly weathered look, but the background music includes upbeat songs like those by Lindberg, Onyanko Club, and Pink Lady. ...They might want to reconsider the song selection a bit (^_^;)The menu offers a variety of typical izakaya dishes, with an English menu available indicating they likely get foreign visitors. The drink selection is a bit limited, but they have a decent range of beers and sake. The place feels more like a dining hall than an izakaya. I started with a lemon shochu highball (480 yen) and later switched to a draft sake (750 yen). For food, I decided to try a few dishes that caught my eye. I love dishes that go well with drinks (^_^)・Oden Assortment 550 yen? The contents are chef's choice. On this day, it included boiled eggs, fried tofu, konjac, and tofu. The broth is flavorful and seeps into each ingredient. The boiled eggs are cooked until firm. The tofu is firm and the konjac has a good texture. Simple flavors but all delicious (^_^)・Kizushi 650 yen It has a slightly strong vinegar flavor but the fatty tuna is well-marbled without any dryness. When you chew, the fat spreads in your mouth (^_^) Kizushi can be found in various restaurants in Kyoto, and it's always delicious.・Homemade Minchikorokke 550 yen The coating is thick and crunchy. The ground meat has a subtle curry flavor. It has a homely taste that could be found in a bento box. A side dish that goes well with rice and drinks. It's quite filling and satisfying (^_^)-----------------------------------------[In Conclusion] The food here is more like home-cooked dishes than typical izakaya fare. They serve a variety of clever dishes. It's surprising to find such a modest restaurant quietly operating in the glamorous Gion area (^_^) The total bill for today came to 3,110 yen. Thank you for the meal. A place where you can enjoy a simple meal ===========

Today, I enjoyed beer in the sauna. Now onto the second place. Even though I warmed up in the sauna and hydrated with beer, it's freezing outside. So, I decided on oden! I asked Mr. Yamaguchi for his recommendation. The assorted oden and mackerel to finish were perfect. I use these at home too. Thank you for the heartwarming meal.

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant. Sorry for the blurry photos, it's our second stop for drinks. Located in a neighborhood known for high-end establishments, this place stands out for its affordable prices. No complimentary appetizers, but the food is delicious. Definitely worth seeking out. The restroom is even located in a courtyard. A true traditional townhouse experience. Thank you for the meal. Today we had one beer, two plates of assorted oden, kizushi, simmered rice, and it came to 4100 yen for three people.

From Gion Shijo, head towards Yasaka Shrine and enter the alley. I visited this restaurant with my boss, and I would definitely get lost if I went alone! (ToT) This place was one of the restaurants I had been looking forward to. I looked at the menu, but I decided to leave it to my boss. We had oden, shime saba, geso, and kayaku meshi, among others! Among them, the shime saba was really delicious! ^ - ^ It was perfectly seasoned and went well with 4 cups of hot sake, haha. The oden also had a good flavor and went well with the alcohol! As a finisher, we had kayaku meshi, and even though I was quite full, it was so delicious that I finished it all in one go. I definitely want to visit again! Thank you for the meal ♫

Just a 5-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, there is a quaint alley lined with traditional Kyoto-style shops with Kyoto bamboo blinds hanging. At the entrance of a building in the back, there is a lantern that reads "Gion no Okazuya Meshi-dokoro Yamaguchi Nishi-ten", but there doesn't seem to be any such shop around. However, there is a narrow alley called Mame Roku Alley next to a building called Mame Roku, and I was drawn to walk further inside. As I continued down the alley, I found a weathered izakaya called "Yamaguchi Nishi-ten" waiting for me. It's a hidden alley that you wouldn't enter if you didn't know about it, so you won't see many tourists around. The noren curtain at the entrance is dyed with "Yamaguchi", and there are antique bronze shaved ice machines and wooden ship wheels placed at the entrance for some reason. Inside the shop, there are about 10 counter seats, a raised tatami seating area, and even a second-floor seating area. The staircase leading to the second floor is a beautifully worn staircase chest of drawers. The atmosphere is quite charming. I wanted to go upstairs, but since I was alone, I sat at the counter. The ceiling is decorated with wheels, and there is a large fish tank at the counter. The shop is not particularly spacious or crowded, yet there are five staff members, seeming a bit idle. The BGM playing is modern music that doesn't quite match the ambiance of the shop. The handwritten menu is unusually long, and it is placed in a long hard card case. I didn't know such cases existed! A large bottle of beer is 690 yen. The luxurious simmered taro is 420 yen, and the cucumber vinegar with dried baby sardines is 450 yen. The homemade croquettes are 550 yen and are freshly fried, warm, and slightly sweet with a curry flavor. They seem like they would go well with rice. As time passed, a group of reserved customers went upstairs. I wonder what the second floor is like?

First, start with kizushi, then have a glass of man'nenji, followed by jacok and hamo tofu to finish off. It's a great combination.

There is a hidden gem of an izakaya in Gion with a cozy atmosphere. The food is delicious, affordable, and the vinegar mackerel sushi is especially tasty.
