During a visit to my hometown, I heard about a restaurant called "Omomaimai Store" in the neighboring town and decided to go there with my sister. Despite being near Ryukoku University, the place was not crowded on a Sunday afternoon, with only one middle-aged man there. The menu stated that each person must order at least one dish, which was a bit confusing for us at the time. We had never heard of "Omomaimai Store" before, so we felt like we were about to experience something unexpected.
We ordered an omelette rice, fried rice, and stir-fried vegetables, but when the waitress asked if we could finish it, we naively said, "Sure." Little did we know what we were getting into. The omelette rice was served like a whole cake, and I immediately regretted my decision. I struggled to finish it, sweating profusely, and feeling like I was in a "stuffed elephant" situation. The waitress mentioned the price, around 700-800 yen, casually.
I tried my best to eat without stopping for water, and finally managed to finish it. My sister, who had ordered the same "whole size" fried rice, only ate about 30% and pushed it towards me, apologizing. I felt like I was going to explode but continued to fight through the second round. Just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore, the waitress brought out the stir-fried vegetables, saying, "It comes with rice as well." I politely declined the rice and reluctantly started the third round with the vegetables.
Meanwhile, the man sitting next to us, who looked like a construction worker, was offered a second serving of curry rice, which he declined with a half-dead expression. It turned out that this place offered unlimited free refills. Exhausted, I made a mental note to avoid the omelette rice, fried rice, and stir-fried vegetables for a while. As I sat there unable to move, I watched two sparrows playing outside the entrance of the restaurant, which was actually a regular house. I vowed to never underestimate the portion sizes at "Omomaimai Store" again.
