The window is small so you don't have to worry about outside views. You can read manga calmly. The ham sandwich with fresh vegetables was delicious. It is sandwiched between soft and chewy bread. The taste is light. They open at 8 o'clock, but it may vary slightly.

The size inside was unexpected from the entrance. I hope you visit and be surprised! The morning toast was cut and arranged with the master's aesthetic sense. It was nice to have a green salad and egg salad. There were many manga books inside the restaurant! If you have time, it would be nice to relax with a drink and read some manga.

午後の憂鬱

When I planned to go for lunch at a restaurant near the Keihan train line, I encountered a temporary closure. So, I decided to visit this place in the underground of the station instead. The daily special seemed a bit expensive at over 900 yen, so I opted for the hamburger lunch which was priced at 700 or 750 yen. The hamburger had a normal taste but I could smell the nutmeg in it. It was tender. The interior of the restaurant was surprisingly spacious, and I sat in the non-smoking section. There were many manga books lined up, which reminded me of the Showa era. It seemed like a 40-year-old establishment with a lot of customers enjoying their coffee.

I visited the restaurant for a slightly late lunch. The long lunch hours from 11:00 to 16:00 are quite convenient. The lighting on the floor, along with its color, creates a twilight-like atmosphere. The vintage cigarette vending machine placed next to the restroom adds to the mood of the place, making you forget that it's the Reiwa era. The daily lunch special seems to have increased by 20 yen, but everything else appears to be the same. I was intrigued by the "Libre Lunch," but the menu looked faded and the GIF image in 256 colors made it hard to understand. When I asked the staff, they explained that the Libre Lunch allows you to choose between a handmade hamburger and either chicken tenderloin cutlet, cream croquette, white fish fry, or fried chicken (tax included 780 yen, with drink 1000 yen). What arrived was a simple meal of rice, side dishes, and salad. There was no soup included. The chicken tenderloin was fried in fine bread crumbs, making it crispy on the outside and tender inside. But the standout was the demi-glace sauce. It had just the right acidity and concentrated umami flavor, rivaling that of a Western cuisine specialty restaurant. The hamburger was a slightly small, rectangular shape, made with a mix of ground meat. The patty itself seemed average in flavor, but the excellent demi-glace sauce elevated the taste. When I asked if I could take photos around the cash register counter, the staff warmly agreed, even offering to take pictures at the table. The ambiance and comfort of the restaurant are excellent. I look forward to visiting occasionally in the future.

Danbashi Station's east exit, halfway up the hill in front of you, used to be the location of a rental record store called "Reikodo." I used to pass by this place almost every day after school when I was in junior high. Now, the spot where the store used to be has been demolished and turned into stairs, with only two shops remaining from that time - a barbershop and this café. I used to visit the barbershop as well, but stopped going because of the rough atmosphere. I've only been to this café once or twice. Inside, there is a counter and tables, with a separate table area behind a partition. Next to the entrance to the restroom in the back of the table area, there is a vintage cigarette vending machine. The slightly dirty walls and furnishings also give off a sense of the past. The food menu is extensive, with items like "boiled pasta" and "homemade hamburger" visible. There is also a takeout window. This place could be categorized as a Western-style café (not a dining café!). While looking at the menu, I drank water and the staff kindly replaced my glass. I ended up not being very hungry, so I ordered a ginger ale. I spent time here that made me want to describe it as sepia-colored rather than amber-colored. This café has a history of around 37-38 years.

- Atmosphere: It's a retro Showa-era style restaurant. There were some young customers, but mostly older ones. - Food: The portion sizes seemed small for the price. It would be nice if it came with soup or something. The croquettes were probably frozen. - Staff: The staff had a good attitude. - Other: Smoking and non-smoking areas are not separated. It's a place you could visit once and be okay with.

Located just a minute away from Keihan's "Tanbabashi" station, "Libre" is a cozy little cafe that caught my eye as I was passing by. I decided to stop by for lunch since it was just before noon. Walking under the tent that advertised homemade hamburgers, I entered the cafe and was greeted by a charming atmosphere reminiscent of a cafe perfect for a casual meeting. As I tried to make my way further inside, I stumbled on a step, but the owner kindly asked if I was okay. I settled at a table in the back where manga books were neatly displayed, and ordered the "Daily Lunch Special for ¥850," which came with a complimentary drink. The cafe was playing Paul Mauriat music, creating a slightly dim but cozy ambiance, with some customers quietly reading manga. The cafe was run by a friendly lady serving customers and a man in the kitchen, creating a calm and welcoming environment. The cafe seemed to have quite a few tables, maybe around 20 or so. About 10 minutes later, my meal arrived. It consisted of a main dish, rice, and unfortunately no soup. Today's main dish was chicken tenderloin cutlet and mixed vegetables, which I started with. While the portion size could have been a bit more generous, the taste was decent. The chicken tenderloin lacked juiciness, but overall, it was a satisfactory lunch option. The mixed vegetables were more like a stir-fry with a good balance of flavors. The side dish resembling tofu in broth was also decent. The rice surprisingly tasted good, ranking above average. I ended the meal with a cup of coffee before leaving the cafe. Overall, despite the lack of soup, the meal was reasonably priced and the taste, service, and atmosphere were all average. I would rate it 3.5 stars out of 5 (68/100). Being conveniently located near the station, it's a good spot for a quick meal.
