In front of Mineyama Station in Kyotango City, there is a traditional diner with an old-fashioned sign. The atmosphere inside is very warm and welcoming, with the staff providing excellent service. The interior is clean and has a high-class feel, almost like a fancy restaurant disguised as a diner. I ordered the Taimeshi Ramen, which was delicious with a rich soup made from sea bream broth and topped with sea bream scraps. The soup was flavorful and satisfying, and the sea bream scraps were incredibly sweet. The wakame seaweed was also fresh and added to the overall deliciousness of the dish. I also tried the assorted sashimi, which was beautifully presented and included a variety of fish like tuna and sea bream. The sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. My husband ordered the Sashimi and Tempura Set, which came with a generous portion of tempura, including some unique mountain vegetables. The restroom had a nostalgic pistol-style flush, but was very clean. Overall, I had a great dining experience and would love to visit again on my next trip.

I used it for lunch on my first business trip to Kyotango. It is located in a good location in front of the station, and the inside of the restaurant was moderately crowded even before noon. I ordered the daily recommendation and what came out was this... There is nothing to say, but it was a delicious set meal.

Long time no see! It's a holiday lunch. I planned a meal that my wife likes. This place seems to have good reviews from everyone. It's a bit far from our home, but we decided to visit based on the good reviews. We arrived around 11:15 am, but it was quite busy with takeout orders, so we were asked to wait until 11:30 am. We placed our order - I ordered the sashimi set and my wife ordered the tempura set. As more and more customers arrived, my wife, knowing my impatience, started to get nervous. I was a bit frustrated by the slow pace. Finally, my wife's tempura set was served. It looked delicious, and I urged her to eat it while it was hot. However, there was a long wait for my meal. My wife was clearly worried about my reaction. After more than 5 minutes, my meal was finally served. The sashimi set used gurnard, mackerel, and saba, which I appreciated, but the portion of rice was small. Even my wife found it unsatisfying. We were both disappointed and decided to leave and go to another restaurant. It felt like the portion size did not match the price. Perhaps the cost of living is high in this area? It ended up being a lackluster lunch for us. We bought some bread at a convenience store on the way home. That's all.

This is a shop in front of Mineyama Station. There is a parking lot, making it easy to visit. They offer a wide variety of menu items such as rice bowls and set meals, so I think people of all ages can enjoy dining here. When looking at the menu, they seem to specialize in tempura, so I ordered the tempura set meal while my partner ordered the Ginja tempura set meal. The tempura was crispy and delicious, with the flavors of the ingredients coming through well. The shrimp was also firm and tasty. There are also side dishes, so you won't feel like you didn't get enough rice. Ginja serves a marinated bowl. The combination of fish, marinated broth, and rice is delicious. I would like to try a different menu item next time.

10th business trip to Kyotango City!! The final dinner is here! The rain that had been falling for a long time has stopped, so I walk from the hotel to this place. I've been curious about this place since my last business trip. I greet the staff as I enter, "Hello~". There are no counter seats, so I sit at a table and look at the menu. Established 105 years ago! Wow! I'm glad I came here! The food must be delicious! I order "large draft beer, chilled tofu, and edamame" from the waiter. The large draft beer and chilled tofu come quickly, so I raise a toast to the last night in Kyotango City! Delicious! I try the chilled tofu with soy sauce on the side. The soy sauce is really tasty! There are bonito flakes, chopped green onions, and ginger on top, very luxurious! Next, the edamame arrives. I had high expectations since Tanba Sasayama is nearby, but it was a common type (^^;). Oh well! But the portion is huge, so I'll do my best to finish it. Since the draft beer is gone, I order a highball. It arrives quickly, and when I take a sip, I can taste the cinnamon that I'm not a fan of. It's a Jim Beam highball. But since I ordered it, I'll drink it. My stomach is feeling good, but since I've been eating ramen every day, I end up ordering a pork cutlet bowl. The menu says they use domestic pork and red egg, so I was curious. It arrives without much wait. It looks good and has a good portion size. When I take a bite of the cutlet, I realize it's thin duck meat. The broth tastes like bonito flakes, and the egg is delicious. The miso soup is tasty, and the pickles are very delicious. I manage to finish it all. Thank you for the meal! Maybe I had too high expectations for a place that has been around for 105 years.

I'm curious about this "gold cat" dish inspired by the guardian cat statue, not the guardian dog statue. I also find the sea bream soup ramen intriguing, as well as the omurice supervised by director Itami Juzo. On this day, I ordered the gold cat and sea bream soup ramen with tempura. The gold cat dish was not as voluminous as I expected, it was actually quite small. Many seafood bowl places are known for their large portions, so maybe I set my expectations too high. The taste was good, but things like grated yam and simmered baby sardines were unnecessary. On the other hand, the sea bream soup ramen was very delicious. It had thin noodles that were unexpectedly firm, paired with a pork bone ramen-like topping in a Japanese-style sea bream soup. The miso soup also had a bonito dashi base and was very tasty. The sea bream soup ramen was also excellent. The first-floor seats were all full, and it seemed like they were turning people away. It looked like a popular local spot!

I visited a restaurant that I had not posted about before. I went there during a trip to Tango Peninsula. The food was delicious, and they had local sake which was satisfying. Thank you for the meal.

I had lunch in Mineyama Town for two days for work. Local people kept coming in one after another. It's delicious. No doubt about it. The rice is also delicious, I ended up getting seconds and now my stomach is full.

I went to visit Kyotango for sightseeing. The restaurant is right in front of Mineyama Station. I ordered the deluxe cat rice dish called Kinneko, but it was sold out so I had the Ginneko for 880 yen instead. My companion, while saying it seemed healthy, ordered the sashimi set meal for 1380 yen. It was helpful to have the calorie information on the menu. The deluxe cat rice dish was delicious, so I thought about trying to make it myself. I was thirsty in the hot weather and called for service, but it took a while for them to notice, so I wished they had self-service water available.

Gold Cat 1280 yen ☆ Surfing to Tango. This time, I extended my trip to Miineyama Station to have lunch at this restaurant where I wanted to eat chirashi sushi. The restaurant seemed quite popular, with about 80% of the seats filled on a Sunday. I was able to be seated in a tatami room without having to wait. The main attraction was the signature menu item, the luxurious cat rice, Gold Cat! The name comes from the rare Koma cat at Miineyama Konpira Shrine. The menu states, "The original chirashi sushi delivered by Kikuno-ya, the pioneer of chirashi sushi, in a new style." Whether it's the original, chirashi sushi style, or new chirashi sushi, the explanation is a bit unclear haha. But I came here to try this, so I confidently placed my order. By the way, there was also a more affordable version called Silver Cat. They also offer set meals, noodles, and rice bowls. After a wait of about 10 minutes, the awaited Gold Cat arrived. It was beautifully arranged in a round sushi tub with a variety of seafood, yam, and egg, looking very appetizing♡ The main seafood ingredients are said to be marinated in soy sauce using the seafood from Tango's sea. Now, let's dig in! Indeed, being near the sea, the fish is incredibly fresh! The delicious sashimi is thickly sliced and has a nice texture. The thickly sliced yam and the crunchy kazunoko are a great accent, providing a satisfying eating experience! With a variety of sashimi types, you can truly enjoy the delicious seafood from Tango! Considering the portion size, the price is quite reasonable!\̏(º̻∇º̻)/̋

I visited for lunch. After paying respects at a grave in Miyazu, I stayed overnight in my car at Ine Fishing Port. Then, I drove around the Tango Peninsula in reverse order with Mr. Kado and his wife, about two people in total. (Visited on June 1, 2016) Mr. Kado ordered the Matsunomakunouchi with sashimi and tempura for 1500 yen. It looks very luxurious! I wonder if I can finish it all. This is the sashimi set. Mrs. Kado ordered it. It also comes with tempura, but she says the sashimi is exquisite. Actually, this restaurant has a wide variety of menu items, like a department store of food. Both orders have arrived. This is the lunch on June 1, 2016. This is what Mr. Mura ordered, the Matsunomakunouchi. It's really a lot of food, and of course, delicious. The restaurant is called Kikunoya, written like that. It's right in front of Mineyama Station. It's a lovely place.

This is a diner right in front of Mineyama Station. It looked bright, so even though it was night, I went in alone. The menu had options like tempura set meal, sashimi set meal, and a set meal where you can have both tempura and sashimi. But there was a menu with a big photo that caught my eye, so I decided to go with that. It was called "Kinneko," a chirashi sushi with plenty of Tango fish. While waiting and watching TV, it was served. Along with miso soup, the Kinneko was served in a traditional box filled with various seafood. Each piece of seafood was delicious, and it made me appreciate the high quality of Tango fish once again. Despite the variety and careful presentation, it was only 1280 yen, which is quite affordable. By the way, when I asked the young waiter for his top recommendation, I was surprised by his answer: "Omelette rice." I was expecting him to recommend Kinneko, tempura, sashimi, soba, or oyakodon, but he suggested omelette rice with diced beef steak inside, which was quite unique. If I come back next time, I think I'll try the tempura or sashimi instead.

The Tango Peninsula is located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, jutting out northeast towards the Sea of Japan. It is known for its many tourist spots and scenic areas along the coastline. Places like Amanohashidate, Tsunogamisaki, Tango Matsushima, Ine no Funaya, Kotobiki Beach, and Yuhigaura are just a few examples. The peninsula also has gently sloping mountain passes, making it a great spot for cycling enthusiasts. On this day, I was cycling around the Tango Peninsula on my road bike and decided to take a break at Kikunoya in Mineyama Town, Kyoto Tango City. The restaurant is located right in front of Mineyama Station and specializes in sashimi and tempura, as indicated by the sign outside. The interior had a casual dining atmosphere, with a limited number of tables and tatami seating. The menu featured dishes like the premium "Kinneko" and its simpler version "Ginneko". I wanted to try them, but the owner was out shopping and couldn't prepare them at the time. It was close to the end of lunchtime, so I understood. I ended up ordering the "Kikunoya Hiya Men" noodles, which had a lower calorie count and tasted quite good. Although it didn't feel like a unique dish from Kikunoya, I enjoyed it nonetheless. The portion size felt a bit small to me, and I was intrigued by the photos of the "Kinneko" and "Ginneko" dishes. I plan to revisit to try the "Kinneko" in the future and update my review of Kikunoya.

I stayed at a hotel near this restaurant and found it very convenient as there were no dining options in the vicinity. The restaurant is located right by the station and has table and tatami seating. The atmosphere is relaxing, although you can't see the TV from the tatami area. It's a family-run business, with a daughter-like person serving customers. The menu is extensive with a variety of options. I tried the tempura udon, which was crispy and delicious. The udon was standard but tasty. There were inspiring words written outside the restaurant, so I hope they continue to strive for even better food. Thank you for the meal.

Kikunoya is located in front of KTR Minamiyama Station, with a brown and stained glass building. The sign in front of the store reads "Tempura and Noodles!" The building has a Western style, which may seem mismatched with the Japanese cuisine, but don't worry and enter. This was my second visit, and I ordered the tempura set meal that is featured on the sign. The tempura was indeed delicious, with a good crispy texture. The rice was also tasty, probably using local Tanba rice. The overall flavor might be a bit subtle, but it suited my taste well. For a little extra cost, you can get the Sashimi and Tempura set meal, which I recall was very fresh and delicious when I tried it before, using local fish.

We stopped by this chic and stylish restaurant in front of Mineyama Station during our crab-eating trip to Tango Peninsula. I have been a fan of the owner's blog and was touched by his sincere attitude towards cooking, so I had always wanted to visit. When we met in person, he was just as serious about his craft as I had imagined. After discussing food and travel advice, we ordered pasta as we had been eating traditional Japanese cuisine like crab dishes the day before. My wife chose her favorite carbonara, which had a light flavor with a good amount of black pepper. I opted for the peppery peperoncino, which had well-cooked pasta with a strong garlic and salt flavor. We were treated to a seafood salad by the owner's kindness, and we are grateful for that. We will definitely stop by Kikunoya again on our next crab-eating trip. Thank you! ^w^

I have been coming in and out of this area for over ten years, and I have heard good reviews from locals about this restaurant located right in front of KTR Mineyama Station. The exterior of the building is quite stylish with stained glass decorations. Since the lunch spot I was planning to go to was closed, I decided to try out this new place that I had been aware of but never visited before. I thought it was just a regular diner, but when I entered through the entrance on the second floor, I was pleasantly surprised by the calm atmosphere. I chose the daily special menu which was tempura soba and zuke-don set. They had run out of soba, so it was replaced with udon, which seemed to be a popular choice among customers. While waiting, I observed that tempura seemed to be their specialty, with a focus on quality ingredients and a variety of Japanese dishes. I wasn't expecting much from the udon as I was trying to keep it budget-friendly. The udon was decent, with a subtle flavor that is commonly found in such places. The tempura had a crispy texture, indicating that they took care in frying it. However, since it was served in a broth, I could only taste a small part of its goodness. The zuke-don consisted of sushi rice topped with lightly marinated white fish, serving as a mini bowl that typically comes with a ramen lunch menu for an additional 200 yen. The portion was modest, but the quality of the rice grains and the texture of the fish were unique and delicious. As the lunch menu ran out, the following customers seemed to enjoy dishes like zuke-don and tempura Japanese-style ramen. Overall, I was impressed by the well-managed restaurant, both in terms of its interior and exterior design, and I felt that it was worth revisiting.
