I came to Karasuma Marutamachi, and found that there were few places serving lunch on Sundays. I considered having steak or hamburger on Gokosho Street, but I decided to go to "Kikakutei" because I had been curious about their chicken salt udon since my last visit. I ordered the "Chicken Salt Udon for 660 yen with a Mini Seafood Bowl Set for 660 yen," while my wife ordered the "Sashimi Set for 1200 yen." One thing I like about Kikakutei is that they offer a variety of side dishes. I really enjoyed changing the flavor of the chicken salt udon with yuzu pepper. The mini seafood bowl also had three types of sashimi, so you can enjoy different flavors each time. Additionally, the seafood bowl on weekends comes with five types of sashimi. I was able to try the chicken salt udon that I wanted to eat, so it was a satisfying lunch.

Whenever you go, you won't be disappointed by the deliciousness. If you want to eat fresh fish, this is the place to go. They also have a wide selection of alcohol. The recommended Caesar salad is amazing. On this day, I had chicken salt udon as the finishing touch. It's delicious when you add yuzu pepper. I will definitely go again.

Today's lunch was with my wife and eldest daughter, the three of us visited "Kira Raku Tei" in Karasuma Marutamachi. To avoid ordering the same thing, we always wait to order last. Even so, either the first or second choice is usually still available. On this day, my wife ordered the "Seafood Bowl for 1,000 yen" and my daughter ordered the "Black Pork Braised Pork Set for 1,100 yen". I decided to go with the daily special set meal which came with minced cutlet and fried chicken. After a 10-minute wait, the set meals arrived. The seafood bowl was delicious, with a generous amount of seafood which is said to be increased during the Bon Festival period. The black pork braised pork was tender and had a perfect balance of tenderness and chewiness. The seasoning on the fried chicken was also just right. One of the highlights was the side dishes that come with the set meal, always a surprise. We enjoyed sharing and tasting each other's dishes. It was a delightful meal. Thank you.

Arrived in Kyoto for a meeting and had a drink at a nearby izakaya. I was drawn to the fatty tuna sashimi platter and decided to give it a try. Along with a bottle of beer, I enjoyed the spicy marinated fish appetizer. The sashimi, including bream, was fresh and delicious, with five varieties for 1460 yen. Not bad, right? But then the bill came to 2,460 yen, with the marinated fish appetizer costing 400 yen per slice. Quite disappointing. Won't be returning to Marutamachi.

I visited for lunch♪ The famous seafood bowl changes daily and includes about 4 types of ingredients for 1000 yen including tax, with seafood bowl, red miso soup, and pickles, so the cost performance is quite good♪ My friend who came with me had the daily special, which that day was grilled tuna collar as the main dish, with a lot of side dishes in a set meal. Definitely recommend the sashimi!! Otherwise, the daily special might be even more cost-effective! (lol)

I went to a izakaya near Marutamachi Station for lunch today.
Kurakutei seems to be an izakaya where you can enjoy freshly ground Tanba Jidori chicken and fresh seafood dishes. They also offer lunch, so I decided to dine there. The interior was creatively designed with wooden Japanese-style tables lined up.
As I was choosing my lunch, the staff recommended the seafood bowl.
Seafood Bowl:
A popular lunch menu that comes with miso soup and pickles. It was served in a wooden bucket-like container with Thai, mebachi tuna, and yellowtail. The slices of fish were thick and meaty, promising a satisfying meal. I drizzled some soy sauce with wasabi and enjoyed the flavorful tuna. The yellowtail had a nice texture. The generous portion of rice also added to the satisfying meal. Fresh fish is always delicious. I was able to enjoy plenty of seafood for lunch. It was a lovely lunch experience.

The prices are not too high, there is a wide variety of alcohol, and it was delicious! The menu has a lot of options, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice! However, the entrance is unusually low, so it's important to be careful as drunk people might hit their heads.

After visiting the Goshin Shrine, I stopped by the Mikane Shrine on the way. I ordered the Mini Seafood Bowl Set for 1,200 yen. The sashimi was fresh and the seared squid sashimi was sweet and delicious. The udon noodles were chewy and had a good texture, and the sesame flavor was special and delicious. However, the seating was a bit cramped and not very relaxing, which was a shame.

This is a blog post from February 2016. Things may have changed since then. I used to pass by this place often, as it is located near the Kyoto Imperial Palace, along Karasuma Street. I was always curious about it. The sign that says "Direct delivery from Maizuru Port" caught my attention! I had mentioned wanting to go there before, but never got around to it... At that time, I used to stay at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shijo near Karasuma Oike, so it was a bit out of the way to visit. The area around the hotel had plenty of dining options as well... However, I decided to make the effort this time! I made my way to the first floor of the building. The entrance was low, giving it a hidden gem feel. It was early, so there were no customers yet. The interior was dimly lit but had a cozy atmosphere. It seemed to be inspired by a traditional Japanese bathhouse. I took a seat at the counter. Since it was cold, I opted for shochu with hot water instead of beer. I started with a sashimi platter. Everything was fresh. There was also Fugu (blowfish) karaage made with Fugu directly from Ise, Hokke (Okhotsk atka mackerel) from Hokkaido, and Kyoto-style Kamo eggplant miso. It was a winter weekday, so there were no tourists around. Only a few locals were dining. With the small number of customers, I was able to have a leisurely chat with the owner. I ordered a few more dishes and had a couple more drinks, totaling just over 7000 yen. It was very reasonable. It was a bit of a walk from the hotel, but it was worth the effort to come here. Thank you for the delicious meal!

The chicken liver from Kyoto Jidori is delicious, even though it's unrelated to winter. ✨

Sunken kotatsu seating. The atmosphere of the restaurant is purely Japanese style. I was told that today's seafood bowl has Kyoto Spanish mackerel as the main ingredient.

After a stroll down Horikawa Street for Tanabata, three of us, including mom and Mayu. Not bad, but just average for the price.
