This is a very reasonably priced okonomiyaki restaurant within walking distance from the Westin Hotel. Despite the area being known for its high-end establishments, this restaurant offers good value for money. There were many foreigners waiting outside, which is a testament to its popularity. I highly recommend the "tonpei" and the "beef tendon and green onion okonomiyaki" here! The tonpei is different from the Osaka style as it is eaten with ponzu sauce, but it is light and delicious. The beef tendon okonomiyaki was my favorite, with the rich flavor of the beef tendon really standing out. The cost performance is excellent, and I would definitely visit again if I have the chance to explore this area.

"Kiraku" is a restaurant located near The Westin Miyako Kyoto that I have been visiting for over 20 years and it's one of my favorite places. This time, I had dinner there and enjoyed delicious dishes. In particular, the winter limited oyster bacon grill was excellent with its plump oysters and the savory bacon. The classic tonpeiyaki was also as delicious as ever. Many foreign guests visit this restaurant, and it seems that many come to experience the Japanese taste. The menu offers a variety of Japanese-Western fusion dishes, all of which are carefully prepared. "Kiraku" is a long-standing restaurant loved by many in Kyoto, and I definitely want to continue visiting in the future.

It was delicious! I descended from the shrine towards Kiyomizu, and along the main street of Higashiyama, I saw the words "okonomiyaki". I wanted to have a rematch during my stay, so I entered the restaurant. Even before 6 pm on a weekday, it was about 80% full. There were counters and tables on the first floor of the house, and I slid into a seat at the counter. The menu was extensive! The staff's energy was not loud but pleasant. They were cooperative and friendly. Since I was in Kyoto, I chose the ☆ beef tendon x Kujonegi (I don't remember the exact name). With a bottle of beer, it was pure bliss when it arrived. The Kujonegi was delicious! It had eggs in it, making it fluffy. The seasoning was a mild sweet sauce that allowed the ingredients to shine. There was plenty of green onions, and the beef tendon was a nice touch. The meat was satisfying as well. I wanted to order more, but as a solo diner, it was a dilemma. It was around 4,000 yen, and the okonomiyaki set for two (with side dishes) seemed like a good deal. The conversations with regular customers and the attentive service made this kind of restaurant truly great. Thank you for the meal!

Higashiyama "Okonomiyaki Kiraku" Today, as always, I had some delicious okonomiyaki. With many shops closed due to the state of emergency, it's been hard to visit them all, but I'm working hard towards my goal of visiting 150 okonomiyaki shops in a year. Since the shop was closed on this day, I decided to go for a hearty meal in the area around Higashiyama Station on the Tozai Line. It's a 5-minute walk from the station to "Okonomiyaki Kiraku." This is the main branch, and there is another branch in Gojo. There are 4 table seats and counter seats. The table seats are separated by vinyl curtains for safety. The Kiraku Set costs 3300 yen, and you can also order a la carte, but the set includes four popular items. The best part is that you can order all the popular items together. You know how okonomiyaki restaurants have a lot of menu options, right? Just choosing the type of okonomiyaki can be overwhelming, whether it's with pork, squid, mix, or various toppings. And if you add yakisoba or side dishes, it becomes even more difficult to decide. When you ask the staff for recommendations, they often say, "Everything is recommended." So having the four recommended items pre-set in a set is really convenient! The tonpeiyaki is finished with ponzu instead of tonpei sauce, and the combination of ponzu and pork belly fat is great! I wish I had a beer. The crispy grated yam is cooked to perfection, with a crispy texture, a hint of burnt soy sauce, and shichimi pepper for a refreshing finish with ponzu. The Negi Kake Mix Yaki is made without mayonnaise, with a traditional sauce. The simple okonomiyaki has a contrast of textures that is top-notch. Lastly, the mixed yakisoba is a classic dish with plenty of bonito flakes. We were full after sharing these dishes for two people! I feel like having a beer now.

Near Gojozaka, along Higashioji Street... we decided to have a drink in this relatively uncrowded and relaxed atmosphere. Despite it being peak tourist season, we were able to get in easily around 5 pm. The menu includes modern-yaki, okonomiyaki, negiyaki, yakisoba, as well as various side dishes and drinks. We ordered various items like mixed tempura, mixed modern-yaki, and tonpei, along with sake like Kubota. The three of us ended up having 3-4 drinks each, and although the drinks ended up being more expensive than the food, everything we ate was warm and delicious. The staff were friendly, and it's a casual place where you can relax without worrying too much about your wallet.

Today, it is located about a 15-minute walk from Higashi-Koenji Station on the Tozai Line and is also close to Heian Jingu Shrine. This is a must-visit teppanyaki restaurant when traveling. It has counter seats, table seats, and tatami seats, and although it is small, it has a relatively large number of seats. It is a restaurant that has been featured on guide maps. However, there are many local customers and foreign visitors. I often see customers chatting friendly with the staff. Perhaps because it is near The Westin Miyako Kyoto, the staff can also speak foreign languages. I love the tonpei-yaki here! It is fluffy and creamy, with sweet pork belly that goes well with ponzu sauce. Although it is a teppanyaki restaurant, the style here is for the staff to cook inside and bring it to you. It is always lively and a fun place to visit!

Visit date and time: 09/19/2018 at 19:35, went to dinner with a companion at "Kiraku," a restaurant with a wide variety of teppanyaki dishes such as okonomiyaki. There are few casual dining options in this area, and the most promising restaurant was closed on that day. Despite choosing this restaurant by process of elimination, it turned out to be quite decent. I ordered the "Buta Modern" dish, and shared the "Tonpei" and "Yamaimo Sakusaku Yaki" with my companion. - Food & Taste: 3.3 The "Buta Modern" dish had a good balance of flavors, with a sweet sauce that I enjoyed. Additional sweet and spicy sauces were also provided on the table. The "Tonpei" was simple yet delicious, with tender eggs and pork creating a gentle and pleasant taste. It made me crave for some white rice. The "Yamaimo Sakusaku Yaki" had a crispy texture and a light mouthfeel. - Service: 3.3 The staff, particularly the lady who seemed to be the owner, provided energetic and friendly service typical of a local diner. The other staff members also appeared lively and attentive. - Atmosphere: 3.1 The interior of the restaurant had a clean and cozy feel with wooden accents, although it felt a bit cluttered with various decorations on the walls. There were about five other customers, including families. - Value for Money: 3.2 The "Buta Modern" dish was priced at 900 yen, and the "Tonpei" at 600 yen. (I forgot to note the price of the "Yamaimo Sakusaku Yaki.") - Drinks: N/A Information on drinks is unavailable. I randomly chose the "Tonpei" dish, which turned out to be the restaurant's most popular item, and indeed it was delicious. It's always nice when your intuition leads you to a great choice! 😊

On the second day of my business trip to the Kansai region, I visited Kyoto. Today, I was accompanied by a handsome man in his 20s. We both agreed on having something made with flour for lunch. However, Kyoto is crowded this time of year with not only school trips but also tourists from overseas, making it a struggle to get on and off buses. We couldn't get into the restaurant we had planned to visit, so we ended up at "Kiraku," a place I had been to last year. The counter seats were available, so we were seated quickly. It seems like a common occurrence in Kyoto these days. The other customers were mostly school students on trips. There was a high school student nearby who looked like he was about to collapse from the long wait. We ordered a dish that I forgot the name of, but it was around 3000 yen and consisted of a large okonomiyaki with a mountain of cheese on top. We shared it between the two of us. It was delicious. My companion described it as "quite junky!" The okonomiyaki was fluffy and had a strong presence of ingredients. It really stimulated the satiety center. Mayonnaise lovers, you'll be satisfied!

There are surprisingly quite a few okonomiyaki restaurants that are not delicious (laughs). This place is not only easy to go to, but the shrimp is plump, the squid is fresh, there is self-service bonito powder and dried bonito flakes, as well as nori seaweed. There are both sweet and spicy sauces available! I love their salt yakisoba and always end up ordering it! The soba itself is delicious and the surrounding menu is also great. The tatami seating makes it a comfortable place, and it might be reassuring for families with children! The friendly atmosphere inside the restaurant gives a sense of security.

When you go past Chion-in and Shoren-in from Yasaka Shrine and reach Sanjo Street, the number of tourists decreases significantly and there are fewer dining options. In such a place, I came across this restaurant. The place was clean and I happened to be with a friend from the Kanto region, so we decided to enter and ordered beer and okonomiyaki. I ordered negiyaki, while my friend ordered the regular modanyaki. The negiyaki that came out was a bit light in volume, more like a snack. Overall, it had a different feel from Osaka. It wasn't particularly outstanding in terms of taste, but considering the clean restaurant and the location, it wasn't bad.

Last month, when I stayed at a nearby hotel, I used this restaurant. In this area, it's not exactly the gateway from Shiga to Kyoto, but at night, unlike the center of Kyoto, it was difficult to find places to eat. I got the impression that there are few places where a woman can easily enter alone. There was a restaurant that I was interested in, but I was refused entry. It was only 8 o'clock! I was already hungry and tired, and before I knew it, I was in front of this restaurant. I immediately entered! There were various menu options, and because I was alone, it seemed a bit expensive, but there was a set menu that was a good deal when ordered for two people. There were Korean tourists or people working around here ordering so much for such a cheap price, and I was envious. I ordered a dish that was a combination of okonomiyaki and yakisoba, and also ordered another dish. The staff was kind, and there was someone who could speak English, which I thought was amazing.

I had dishes like tonpei, cheese yakinegi, and grilled beef tendon. This restaurant is located near The Westin Tokyo hotel and specializes in teppanyaki. The atmosphere of the restaurant is reminiscent of traditional teppanyaki places, with both counter and tatami seating available. We stumbled upon this place while strolling around the neighborhood looking for dinner options. The restaurant was bustling when we visited, with locals and tourists alike. The tonpei and okonomiyaki were delicious, as expected from classic teppanyaki dishes. The cheese yakinegi was a simple yet tasty dish with onion slices and cheese on top of the dough. Overall, the food had great texture and flavor. If you're in the area, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
