Visited Sawa, a small dish restaurant for the first time. Located about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station along Takakura Street, very close to Yamamoto Manbo. The restaurant has around 8 counter seats and 3 tables (total of 10 seats). Fresh seafood is the main focus, with a reasonable price range. The assorted sashimi is highly recommended, with 2 pieces each of 7 types for only 1600 yen, which is a great deal. On this day, the assortment included tuna, swordtip squid, grilled conger eel, Noto blackthroat, scallop, sea bream, saury, and octopus. Turns out it's actually 8 types. Very fresh and delicious. They also have a wide selection of Japanese sake, with over 30 types available. I tried mainly unfamiliar brands and enjoyed them. The combination of delicious food and sake made me want to come back again. It's convenient that you can make reservations online. Having a good restaurant near Kyoto Station is a delight. I definitely want to visit again. Dishes tried: - Assorted sashimi (7 types) for 1600 yen - Simmered anglerfish liver for 800 yen - Live mackerel sushi for 800 yen - Cod milt with ponzu sauce for 800 yen Sake tried: - Tomi no Saku (Junmai Daiginjo) - Tenpu (Junmai Ginjo) - Miyaizumi (Junmai Ginjo) - Wakana (Junmai Ginjo) Ochacho

I visited the restaurant looking forward to enjoying sake and delicious dishes. I didn't make a reservation, but luckily it wasn't crowded when I arrived. The clean and bright interior of the restaurant is very comfortable. Since it was hot, I started with a beer and enjoyed the refreshing shrimp with ponzu sauce as an appetizer. For dishes, I ordered a sashimi platter with three types of fish (1000 yen) and a dish with conger eel and matsutake mushrooms (1100 yen). Sashimi definitely goes well with sake. I had a small glass of sake with it. I also ordered a dish of snow crab (1000 yen) which came with a ginger miso sauce for flavor variation. This dish paired perfectly with sake. The restaurant seems to offer seasonal delicious dishes and sake. It was a bit disappointing that some items on the menu for both food and drinks were sold out, perhaps because they only open during the day.

- Assorted sashimi - Assorted tempura - Grilled salted sardines The assorted nigiri sushi was fresh and delicious, and the sardines were fatty and amazing. We finished with nigiri sushi, which had large pieces of fish and was reasonably priced. The restaurant is more like a small izakaya, so the menu isn't too extensive. It's a great place for a casual first round of drinks.

I came here looking for a place close to Kyoto Station with a wide selection of sake, and I was not disappointed. While the food menu is not extensive, the flavors were quite delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. It may not be the best choice for a hearty meal, but it's a great spot to relax and enjoy some sake.

During a business trip, I found this restaurant nearby. The food was delicious, although it took a bit of time to prepare. The dishes were well-presented and I enjoyed the variety of small plates. The drinks were also tasty, and I wish I could have tried the Junmai Daiginjo sake. I will definitely visit this restaurant again when I return to Kyoto!

This is a repeat visit. Every time I go to Kyoto, I will definitely go to eat... This time it was the grilled white eel... (Just imagining it now leaves a lingering feeling...) It's probably a relatively low-key shop that isn't advertised much, but I sincerely recommend it! The sushi I forgot to take a picture of was also delicious... It's probably a shop with strong sourcing.

The restaurant was clean and had a wide variety of drinks, especially a great selection of sake from all over Japan. The draft beer, Master's Dream, was incredibly delicious. While the food options were not extensive, the dishes were well-seasoned and tasty. It's easy to visit alone as the portion sizes are perfect for one person, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality, like the delicious grilled blackthroat seaperch at this price!? Sushi is priced per piece, so if you go with two people, it's better to order two pieces each. The simmered yellowtail was particularly delicious.

I made a last-minute reservation the day before! The interior of the restaurant is very beautiful. There were only two guests before us, so I thought it would be relaxed, but soon after it became full! The appetizer was incredibly delicious from the start (;∀;)! Everything I ate was really delicious. There were so many different types of Japanese sake, which added to the enjoyment of choosing a drink (*ˊᵕˋ*). I definitely want to visit again!

This was my first visit to the restaurant. I love sake and fish dishes, so I had high expectations. Although it's described as a small plate restaurant, the portions were actually quite generous. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. Many customers were seated at the counter, so I would like to try sitting there next time! It was a bit disappointing that the staff seemed inexperienced and made several mistakes, but I would still like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

Small Plate Cuisine 38! How many times have I been to Sawa-san's place? Every time the menu changes, so there's always something new to discover and enjoy! First, we were served Moroko as an appetizer. It's similar to Nanban-zuke, right? It's fried and then marinated in a vinegar-based seasoning. The marination is just right, so even people who don't like sour flavors can enjoy it. It was my first time trying Moroko, and the aroma was amazing! It's a unique aroma that only this fish has! I can't explain it, but being a fish from Lake Biwa, it's similar to river fish like Ayu! Well, the aroma makes it perfect for drinking sake! The duck roast looks delicious just by looking at it. It's a pale pink color! The cooking is perfect, and the shine and juiciness on the cut surface are amazing! Once you taste it, the umami flavor is incredible! It has a good amount of fat, but since it's duck, it's not overpowering. This is definitely a dish to have with sake!! The sashimi platter is always delicious! The freshness is always surprising. I'm also impressed by the meticulous handling of the fish. Each fish is cut and presented in a way that enhances its characteristics, and visually, it's mesmerizing. The tempura platter was delightful, especially the fragrant shrimp! I personally loved the tempura water eggplant!! I always end up ordering the sashimi and tempura platters at 38! I had the Nihonshu "Niwano Uguisu" and "Hidakami" as well! Hidakami has a slight bitterness and acidity with a strong sweetness, so it might be preferred by women! I personally loved the fragrance and acidity of Niwano Uguisu! It was very refreshing! All the sake paired perfectly with the dishes, it was the best!! And now, the main event! Crab hot pot!! I haven't eaten crab in a long time, so when I saw it on the menu, I had to order it! The freshness of the crab was unbelievable! I struggled to get the meat out haha! The crab broth was unbelievably delicious! I was moved to tears! I had the best meal ever! And then, I had udon and porridge! It was so delicious!! Small Plate Cuisine 38! No doubt about it!!! P/S: I forgot to order the sushi set of mackerel, conger eel, and eel... I will definitely try it next time. No guarantees though...

I came across an amazing restaurant again. They serve small dishes, but each one brings a smile to the face of a sake drinker with its deliciousness! The standout dish was the seared nodoguro, with its melt-in-your-mouth texture and a perfect balance of smoky and creamy flavors. I definitely want to visit this place again each season.

I went out for a meal with my senior from school. The assorted tempura, salt-grilled sea bream, and three kinds of sashimi were all incredibly delicious. The sea urchin sushi, which was the most delicious, I forgot to take a picture of it (⌒-⌒; ) I will definitely go back again.

I hesitated to post honestly because this restaurant is so delicious, fresh, and offers a wide variety of Japanese sake that I want to keep it all to myself! Since discovering this place, I've declared that I don't just believe in the numbers on Tabelog anymore! It's a restaurant where you can enjoy the deliciousness of kaiseki cuisine with small dishes. The seafood here is incredibly fresh. This time, I went for a solo drink during lunchtime: ✔️ Sashimi platter with 7 varieties (1,600 yen per serving) - I was pleasantly surprised to find one extra variety on my platter. The seared conger eel is my favorite! ✔️ Wagyu beef sushi with sea urchin on top (500 yen) - The beef was incredibly tender, and the fresh sea urchin on top was sweet! ✔️ Mackerel sushi (400 yen) - Look at that color! It was delicious and had a firm texture. ✔️ Wide variety of Japanese sake (starting from 580 yen) - The menu mentioned over 20 types, but in reality, there were more than 30 types available, including rare and delicious ones like Tatsuriki and Juyondai. ✔️ Other dishes like tempura, simmered dishes, grilled dishes, and side dishes - The variety of dishes is extensive, making it a perfect place to enjoy small dishes with your drinks! The chef is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. The best time to visit is during lunch hours on weekends when it's not crowded. The service might be a bit slow during busy times, but the delicious food makes the wait worth it. I'm planning to visit again for a day drink with friends. This place is a hidden gem and perfect for a second stop after a day drink at another location. The last order is at 9 pm, so it's great for a day drink followed by a fantastic bar-hopping experience. Today, I had a drinking party with my company colleagues at this restaurant. It is located north of Kyoto Station. We arrived a little before 7 pm, and there were no other customers at that time. It seems like it's not crowded on weekdays, so it's a good time to visit. We ordered several dishes, but unfortunately, I couldn't take many photos because I wasn't alone. The standout dish was the shirasu (whitebait) and sweet pepper salad. Handmade dishes like this always make me look forward to the meal. We had a sashimi platter for one person for 1,200 yen (the photo shows two servings), as well as scallops with their innards for 800 yen. The scallop innards here have a mild flavor, so even beginners can enjoy them. The basic dishes are all priced under 1,000 yen, so you can enjoy a variety of food while drinking. I would like to visit this restaurant again in the future. Thank you for the meal.

I discovered this restaurant on Instagram and decided to visit for the first time. It is located a little away from Kyoto Station and while it may not be luxurious, it seems to be a popular place with almost full seating. They offer rare shochu and sake at reasonable prices. The dishes are prepared by skilled chefs and the presentation is beautiful. The only downside is that they serve Asahi Super Dry as their draft beer.

On the first day of my Kyoto trip in August, I had dinner at Kozararyori 38, a restaurant known for its small plate dishes. I booked in advance and checked the daily updated menu. The dishes I tried included simmered clams, white shrimp, sea urchin, grilled conger eel, and button shrimp, tempura ayu fish, wagyu beef tartare, and grilled conger eel. The conger eel was delicious, but the bamboo shoots and tofu were exceptionally tasty. I was able to eat two bowls of rice. They even had a flamingo orange drink, which was a pleasant surprise. The onigiri in front of me looked incredibly delicious, and I definitely want to try it next time.

The seafood was delicious! The service was great and I had a fun time. The swordtip squid, shijimi clams, and turban shells were all delicious. The Nara sake was so tasty. Even though it's hard to come to Kyoto, I want to come back again. I had shochu and sake.

The restaurant mainly focuses on fish dishes. We ordered a sashimi platter with 3 types of fish, salt-grilled blackthroat seaperch, grilled pike conger, seared wagyu beef, tempura white shrimp, and grilled shishito peppers. Everything was delicious, but the portion size for each dish was small. It might be just right for women, but men may find it a bit lacking. I initially thought the blackthroat seaperch would be a whole fish, but it turned out to be half. It would be even better if they had a few more meal options on the menu.
