Located about a 5-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, there is a quaint soba restaurant called Gion Kyomen that caught my eye as I was strolling around. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was nice and inviting. Despite the hustle and bustle of the festival day, there was a calm and relaxed vibe.
Menu Ordered:
- Zaru Soba set meal
- Tempura
- Bottled beer
The set meal had a generous portion and the taste was spot on. The tempura was crispy and delicious, and the soba noodles were smooth and had a great texture. The tempura looked appetizing from the get-go and was devoured quickly. When I left the restaurant, I was surprised to see a large crowd outside. The staff seemed a bit flustered, but it added to the festive atmosphere, which was nice.

The Gion area is always crowded, especially during the day. It can be quite difficult. This place is open until late at night. Today, I lined up early. The broth is made from bonito and kelp, a special and carefully crafted broth. I was planning to try the famous udon here. You can get an extra serving of udon for an additional charge. I decided on kitsune udon. The fried tofu here is local and delicious. The inari sushi comes in plates of three, but you can order just one piece. You can also order just one piece of tempura.

I was asked to drive to Kyoto and was recommended Gion Kyo Men. It is located in front of Yasaka Shrine, next to Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu. We used the coin parking in front of the restaurant. It seems that quite a few celebrities visit this place. I ordered the meat curry soba, which was light and easy to eat, and my companion had the tempura udon, which was also delicious. The portions were a bit small, so we added some inari sushi. It was a sophisticated and enjoyable meal.

During the day, we wandered around eating various foods, and in the evening we had dinner after enjoying kuzukiri. I wanted to eat herring soba, so we went to this place near the hotel. Although it wasn't prominently displayed on the menu, it was actually herring soba. The broth was a bit richer than I had imagined, but it was delicious. The udon my son had was fluffy but still had a good chew to it, and it was also tasty. The prices were slightly more affordable compared to other places in the tourist area.

On the first floor of Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu, there is Gion Kyo Men. I visited for lunch after visiting Yasaka Shrine. It was a hot day, so I ordered cold soba noodles. I had the Inaka Soba for ¥1070 (tax included). It was topped with mountain vegetables, yam, tempura crumbs, bonito flakes, green onions, and chopped seaweed, a cold soba dish. It was light, refreshing, and delicious. The restaurant was filled with signatures of comedians.

Director Shinichi Fujisaki of BODYPIT KYOTO here. Today, I only worked in the morning. In the afternoon, I was looking forward to going to Gion Kagetsu. We started from the second part, so we had lunch at Kyomen. I had zaru soba and oyakodon. She had grated soba and tempura. Both were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a long time! Today is hot, so I naturally thought of having soba for lunch. I used to come here often, but it's been a while. When I entered, there were quite a few students. I ordered the three-color soba. It was delicious as always. It's perfect for a hot day, light and refreshing. It was really good!

In a word, delicious. The location is right next to Gion Kagetsu, and there is also Yasaka Shrine nearby, so there are a lot of tourists. However, udon in Kagawa Prefecture is cheap and delicious. That's why it's a local specialty. Even though it's a tourist spot, it's too expensive. How much does it cost to make udon? What about the broth? It makes you want to question.

I went to this restaurant recommended by a friend. I had the soba with Kujo green onions, which was very delicious with a great broth. Adding grated ginger made it even better. The two people I was with had the "tempura soba" and the "nabe yaki udon," both of which were also very delicious.

I saw this Kujou Negi Udon on TV about 15 years ago and have been wanting to try it ever since. Finally, I was able to eat it. I'm not a fan of ginger being served separately, so I was grateful for that. There was a generous amount of green onions, and it was worth the price of over 1000 yen. The broth, being Kansai-style, had a strong dashi flavor and was delicious. I also tried the curry udon, which had a lot of toppings and stayed hot for a long time. Both noodles were thin and chewy.

When it comes to the taste of Kyoto, this is it. This place holds memories for families visiting Kyoto. The traditional broth used in their udon and rice bowls has a gentle and heartwarming flavor. Eating a bowl here while reminiscing about the past is a special experience. Thank you for everything.

Visited on a certain day in March 2021. Located right near Yasaka Shrine, next to Hangetsu. Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, no wait. Ordered the famous udon for 1535 yen. It's like the chain store's kettle-cooked udon. The taste is average. The tempura is delicious. 1500 yen might be a bit high. Maybe it's because of the location cost. I probably won't go again.

It's been a while since my last update (^_^;) When I visited Kyoto for sightseeing, I went to eat at this place! It's located near Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple, so I've been here a few times. When it comes to soba in Kyoto, you have to try the Nishin Soba! The appearance of this Nishin Soba is simple, but the savory aroma of the herring and the elegant aroma of the broth go really well together. The herring has a nice crispy texture and is delicious! The soba noodles also have a good chewiness, which is another plus. If you want a bit more kick, you can sprinkle some sansho pepper or shichimi togarashi on top for a nice touch. This restaurant also has a wide variety of menu items, including udon. Currently, they are offering a winter limited miso stewed udon. It's the season for autumn leaves in Kyoto, so if you're planning to visit, give it a try! It's located next to the Yoshimoto Theater, right in front of Gion Station for city buses (*^ω^*) Instagram▶︎https://www.instagram.com/f.t_s.gourmet

After going to a trial with Sayo-chan, we had lunch near Yasaka Shrine. We decided to eat at a place called "Kyomen" that caught our eye. The restaurant was filled with autographs of comedians from Yoshimoto agency. The neighboring place was the Yoshimoto Gion Theater. I ordered the cold soba set for lunch, which was quite filling. The fresh fu (wheat gluten) gave it a Kyoto touch. The mixed rice was subtly flavored and the dish had plenty of vegetables. Nana-chan had the cold noodles, which she enjoyed especially the sesame flavor despite being curious about the red pickled ginger. Oton ordered a mini rice bowl set, but there is no picture of it. The restaurant had good COVID-19 prevention measures with alcohol sprays at the entrance. Thank you for the meal.

After seeing Gion Kageki, I got hungry and went into this place right next to it. There were a lot of comedians' signatures inside the restaurant. The restaurant is quite spacious in the back, so we were able to enter smoothly without waiting. The taste was so-so, but it was nice that it wasn't crowded.

The shop I visited in Kyoto the other day is here. On that day, dinner time was delayed due to my companion's schedule, and I had reserved a slightly heavy meal for the next day's dinner, so I wanted to keep it light. However, even though I wanted something light, I still wanted to enjoy a little alcohol. I was worried that this type of shop might have alcohol but not the kind of dishes that go well with it. But when I opened the menu, I was happy to see oden and Kansai specialty dotenabe waiting for me. Although the season had been generally warm, the nights in Kyoto were very cold, so the hot oden warmed me up. They only had the regular Matsukuraume sake that I like in a small bottle, but strangely enough, I enjoyed it without feeling out of place. The main dish, Kyoto udon (or soba), ranged from simple to voluminous set menus. The set menu was really hearty, so it turned out not to be light at all, but I want to consider this a happy mistake. I ordered a simple curry udon with only green onions and aburaage as toppings, and it was surprisingly delicious and I liked it. The taste of the set menu my companion ordered was decent, so I was relieved. The walls of the shop were covered with signatures of famous comedians, and I thought it was a shop frequented by comedians, but there is a Yoshimoto Gion theater nearby, so they must have a close relationship. The shop itself is just an ordinary shop without any particularly noteworthy features. However, I find this ordinary feeling quite comfortable. Also, I think it's worth using that this type of shop is open late at night. Having a bowl of udon as a finish after having some drinks might be nice.

After a night of drinking in Kyoto, we ended with some udon noodles. The gentle flavor of the noodles was soothing for my body after drinking. Even late at night, the restaurant was crowded with customers. I couldn't finish my beer, but the udon was delicious. It's great that they stay open late. Thank you for the meal! ♡

On the second day of our sister trip to Kyoto, we visited Yasaka Shrine and before that, we had lunch at the main store Gion Kyo Men right nearby. It was a scorching hot August day, so we quickly decided on the zaru soba from the menu at the entrance and headed inside. Of course, we couldn't resist ordering tempura too! Luckily, despite it being lunchtime, we were seated right away in a cozy tatami room. Just as we were taking selfies at our table, our food hadn't arrived yet, but as soon as it did, we dug in. My sister suddenly changed her mind and opted for hot udon instead because of the air-conditioned comfort inside the restaurant. I also decided to try some, and it was delicious! The refined broth was a highlight. The meal came with tempura, simmered dish, mixed rice, and noodles, providing a satisfying dining experience. The restaurant was surprisingly spacious, and there were many foreign tourists. Although we ordered a full set this time, I was intrigued by the Kujyo Negi soba on the menu. I would recommend this place for a visit!

After enjoying the exhibition of Turkish treasures, despite the rainy weather, I decided to walk towards Yasaka Shrine to see the Gion Festival. As I was starting to think about dinner, I stumbled upon this restaurant next to Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu. I was in the mood for soba or udon today, so I decided to give this place a try. The entrance was narrow, so I was worried about finding a seat, but luckily the restaurant had depth like many traditional Kyoto establishments, and I was able to find a seat easily. They had table seating and tatami seating available. I ordered the shrimp cutlet bowl set. The set came with a choice of kake udon, kake soba, zaru udon, or zaru soba, but since the shrimp cutlet bowl set didn't come with zaru soba, I chose kake soba. Instead of cold water, they served warm tea, which was nice for this season. The shrimp in the shrimp cutlet bowl was a bit small but easy to eat since the tails were removed. The kake soba was light and I ended up drinking all the dipping sauce. The set was a bit over 1000 yen, but considering the location in Gion, I think it's still reasonably priced. The walls were filled with autographs of Yoshimoto comedians since it's located next to Kagetsu. It's also close to Yasaka Shrine and Gion tea houses, so it's a good place to stop by when exploring Gion.
