We arrived at our home later than planned and decided to have dinner in Kyoto before heading home. We found a tonkatsu restaurant inside Kyoto Porta. It was still before 6 pm, so it wasn't crowded yet. My wife and I had the fillet cutlets, while our son had the loin cutlet and our daughter had the kids' set. The food was delicious, and we even got refills of cabbage and miso soup using the tablet provided at our table. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience.

I always find this place crowded whenever I try to eat here, so this time I lined up a little before they opened. I ordered the mixed black pork set, and my favorite was the fillet cutlet. It was my first time trying asparagus cutlet, and it was really delicious. The quality of the taste was so good that it didn't feel like a chain restaurant. I was very satisfied.

I arrived at the restaurant around the same time it opened at 11 AM. On weekends in Kyoto, there is already a line forming outside the underground dining area about 30 minutes before opening. I ordered the pork cutlet set meal using the tablet on the table. It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive due to the high volume of orders coming in at once. When the meal arrived, I was delighted to find out that rice, miso soup, and cabbage were all refillable for free. Being able to order through the tablet was also a nice touch! I decided to start with the cabbage first, following a veggie-first approach. Then, I moved on to the pork cutlet, which had a crispy coating and tender meat, providing a truly blissful dining experience. I enjoyed dipping it in the provided sauce and mustard, enhancing the flavors even more.

The staff were quick to respond to my request for extra cabbage, and their customer service was excellent. However, the tonkatsu in the side dish was not very tasty. The meat was dry and lacked flavor, which was disappointing for someone who enjoys fatty cuts of meat like myself. The price was also on the higher side.

I arrived at the restaurant for dinner around 7:00 PM. There were 4 groups waiting, but I was able to get a table after a short wait. The staff were very polite and attentive, giving detailed explanations and behaving very courteously. I ordered the Kyoto-style miso-marinated pork loin tonkatsu set meal for 1400 yen. Unfortunately, they had run out of the dish I wanted, so I tried the miso-marinated pork loin tonkatsu instead, which came with a side of yuzu miso. The miso flavor was not very strong on its own, but when eaten with green onions, it tasted even better. The yuzu miso was delicious as well, offering a different taste experience compared to Nagoya-style miso katsu. The rice, miso soup, and cabbage were all refillable and extremely tasty. The side pickles were also surprisingly delicious. As it is a Kansai chain restaurant, you can feel the Kyoto vibe without it being overly expensive. With the option for refills and two side dishes, it felt like a great deal. I highly recommend this place for dinner in Kyoto station area when you're unsure of where to eat.

The crispy texture of the tonkatsu is not satisfying enough! One step further. Free refills for cabbage, rice, and miso soup. Being able to order refills easily with the touch panel is great. It is less crowded compared to other restaurants in Porta, making it easy to get in. Please improve the crispiness!

I visited around 8:30 pm the day before my day off. I waited for about 3 minutes before being seated. I ordered the Kyoto-style miso-marinated pork loin cutlet set for 1380 yen. The English description mentioned "marinated," so I thought the pork loin would be marinated in miso and have a seasoned flavor, but I didn't taste any miso in the meat itself. Yuzu miso was served on the side. It was delicious and of high quality, typical of this restaurant.

I had dinner at the KYK Kyoto Porta branch in Kyoto Station. I ordered the Kyoto limited edition Kyoto-style miso-marinated tonkatsu set meal. I had three helpings of rice and cabbage, and I was able to eat until I was full.

Porta has gradually but steadily changed. Kyoto, where there are hardly any foreigners. In the past, there were many popular shops among this group of people, but the souvenir section has changed so much that it feels like a full renewal! Now it seems like they are targeting Japanese tourists with the shops. And next, it seems like the restaurant zone will change all at once. I don't come to Kyoto Station often, but I'm really curious about what kind of shops will be coming in. Before the changes, I visited KYK. Lately, I've been buying takeout more often, so it was refreshing to order lunch after a long time. I don't usually make tonkatsu at home, so having it at a restaurant feels like a luxurious menu. On this day, I had the 200g hire katsu. Thick cuts make you feel like you're really eating meat! It was also very filling, and I enjoyed it freshly fried.

I visited around 19:10 on a regular day. The Porta West area on the east side is closed for construction until the end of March 2022. KYK also has a takeout store in the East area, so maybe they won't reopen in the West area? There were two groups waiting, but we were seated in about 3 minutes.
- Hand-rolled plum and shiso, cheese tonkatsu set for 1410 yen
You might want to eat it all in one bite, but when you take a bite, the juicy texture is really good♪ If it cools down, the juiciness disappears. The cheese had a nice presence, which was great.

Lunch Record in Kyoto: I was in the mood for tonkatsu, so I visited Tonkatsu KYK at Porta. They fry the thick cut tonkatsu after you order, so it arrives fresh in about 10-15 minutes. I recommend eating it with herb salt. The white rice, miso soup, and cabbage are all-you-can-eat, which is great. I left feeling full and satisfied.

I went to KYK Kyoto Porta store. I arrived before the weekend opening at 11 o'clock, but there was already a line of people waiting. It seems to be quite popular. I entered the store quickly and it was my first time there, but it was a nice atmosphere. I ordered the "Kagoshima Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin Cutlet Set for 1940 yen (tax included) with pickles / two small side dishes / cabbage / special pork soup or miso soup / rice. The black pork tenderloin cutlet was juicy and very delicious. My wife ordered the "Seasonal Vegetable Hand-Rolled Pork Cutlet Set for 1410 yen (tax included) with pickles / rice / miso soup / cabbage / one small side dish. It was delicious with fresh loin meat rolled carefully one by one and a shrimp fry on the side. I often get takeout from KYK, but eating in the store is fresh and delicious.

Around 6:00 PM, I visited "Tonkatsu KYK" with another person. It is a long-established tonkatsu chain restaurant founded in the Showa era. They carefully select pork from hundreds of domestic breeds and use a blend of soybean salad oil and rapeseed salad oil with zero cholesterol for frying. They offer free refills of rice, cabbage, and miso soup. They use fresh breadcrumbs for their tonkatsu, which gives it a crispy texture and a voluminous appearance. The skilled craftsmen with a first-class qualification in breadcrumb production bake their own special mountain-shaped bread to create the perfect texture for their tonkatsu. We tried the Kagoshima black pork tenderloin tonkatsu set (110g/¥1,940 tax included) and compared it with the regular tenderloin tonkatsu set (130g/¥1,260 tax included). The black pork has a finer texture and richer flavor compared to regular pork, making it more satisfying despite the higher price. Overall, we were highly satisfied with the meal and impressed by the deliciousness of the black pork. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I was looking forward to having a solo dinner in Kyoto during my business trip, but many places were closing early due to the pandemic. So, I wandered around the underground shopping area "Porta" at Kyoto Station. When I saw a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) sign, I suddenly felt like eating it, so I decided to stop by. It was around 6:45 pm, and the restaurant was almost empty with only about 4 other customers. I ordered the domestic black pork loin tonkatsu (110g) for 1,940 yen and added a natural jumbo shrimp fry for 390 yen. I also ordered a draft beer and a sweet potato shochu on the rocks. To be honest, the food was just okay, leaning towards mediocre. But, considering the current situation, it was understandable. I enjoyed the meal as I was quite hungry.

In the kitchen, all three chefs are wearing chef hats. The restaurant reminds me of a place featured on a TV station in Nagoya. Is the tonkatsu really delicious here? The atmosphere inside the restaurant is elegant with a Japanese touch. There are 7 seats at the marble counter, as well as table and sofa seats. The chopstick covers serve as simple chopstick holders. It would be better if they had ceramic chopstick holders. I ordered the Kaki Hirazen (tonkatsu and fried oysters) with burdock salad and pickles. The tonkatsu is made by frying a ball of pork fillet. Once fried, it is cut in half to reveal the inside meat, a nice touch. The fried oysters are large and expertly fried, just like the tonkatsu. The recommended sauce is a sesame dressing. The miso soup with sliced bamboo shoots and seaweed, along with the shiny rice, has a delicious taste. The cabbage is refillable, a nice service. At 1430 yen including tax, it is a great value and a satisfying menu.

I had to grab a quick lunch, so I went to this restaurant. I ordered the Rosukatsu set with a smaller portion (110g) for 1100 yen. Even though it was a smaller portion, it was still quite filling. I wasn't very hungry, so this menu option was perfect for me. The katsu was fried just right, with a light and slightly sweet taste. The salad and pickles were delicious as well. The service was quick, and I was able to enjoy my meal promptly. Overall, I was satisfied with the taste and portion size.

When I visited Kyoto for sightseeing in October 2020, I stayed near Kyoto Station and decided to dine at this restaurant that evening. It wasn't very crowded, possibly due to the impact of the coronavirus. I ordered the pork cutlet set meal. I thought the taste was decent for the price. Also, considering the generally high prices in Kyoto, I found the prices here to be quite reasonable.

I had been craving tonkatsu since yesterday, so I decided to go for it. However, they were out of the special pork I wanted. I ended up choosing black pork and enjoyed a hearty meal of tonkatsu. It was delicious as always. It's not something I can easily make at home, but it was worth it.

I visited around 20:20 on a regular day. There were two groups of customers before me. They provided paper pockets for temporarily storing masks. I had the refreshing Plum Grated Pork Cutlet Set for 1330 yen. It was delicious. The separate plum sauce was a bit sour if you put too much, but if you put too little, the flavor would be lacking. I adjusted by adding a little bit here and there. I ended up getting a second serving of rice.

This is a tonkatsu restaurant located in Porta Kitadori, the underground shopping street of Kyoto Station. I used to frequent this place a lot during my student days, but it has been a quarter of a century since I last visited. I didn't expect it to still be in business, but there it was. The Porta itself seems to have been renovated and has become quite a stylish and sophisticated underground mall. If my memory serves me right, the restaurant is in the same spot. It has also transformed into a clean and elegant establishment with piano music playing in the background. It used to be a bit dimly lit back in the day. I ordered the loin tonkatsu set that I used to enjoy so much as a poor student. Every bite of the crispy cutlet with its crunchy coating released a juicy sweetness. Delicious. I realized that my memories were not embellished; this place really is good. They have a good selection of drinks, so you can even enjoy a drink during lunch. I thought I might visit their shop in Sakae when I return to Nagoya. Thank you for the meal.
