Due to some circumstances, I was transferred to Osaka in January this year. I decided to take a trip to the Kyoto Tango region, a place that would be difficult to visit if I were still in Tokyo. I chose a hot spring inn where I could enjoy both hot springs and crab, as it was the season for Matsuba crab (winter). 1. Exterior, atmosphere, interior of the shop I traveled by train instead of car. I got off at the Yuhigaura Kizugawa Onsen Station and was picked up by the inn's car from there. It is located overlooking the winter Japan Sea, in a slightly lonely location. It is not too big, so it has a quiet and calm atmosphere. The room had a small garden, and when I opened the window, the scent of plum blossoms drifted in. It has a quaint atmosphere. 2. About the food Both breakfast and dinner were served in the room, which was much appreciated. For dinner, as requested in advance, it was "all about Matsuba crab"! There were crab sashimi, crab hot pot, boiled crab, steamed crab, crab tempura, crab shell grill (with miso on magnolia leaves), and crab porridge (using the soup from the crab hot pot)… and so on. Oh, I ate so much crab! I couldn't compare the taste between male and female crabs, but I was very satisfied. Matsuba crab has an elegant umami taste. The "hair crab" I had in Hokkaido had a more intense and wild flavor. There was a strong umami taste in the miso part and the head. In comparison, Matsuba crab is light and has a subtle sweetness. The texture of the meat is also one of its characteristics. For breakfast, there was sashimi, tamagoyaki, grilled yellowtail, octopus vinegar tofu, and more. There were plenty of dishes, including warm dishes, and I was very pleased. The basics like rice and miso soup were also well-prepared, and the portions for both breakfast and dinner were generous. 3. About the staff We tend to spend a long time having dinner, leisurely drinking alcohol, so we may have caused some inconvenience. However, the attendant who took care of our room was a foreigner, but she greeted us with a smile, which was very appreciated. 4. About the cost Considering that we could have Matsuba crab, with one night and two meals included, for just under 30,000 yen per person, I think it's a reasonable price. I researched various inns in the area, and considering the level of the rooms and overall experience, I believe this inn is quite reasonable. 5. Other things noticed In the morning, I went for a walk by the sea near the inn with my companion, and on that day, the cold north wind was blowing fiercely, making it feel like the final scene of a drama. In summer, you can also enjoy swimming in the sea.
