The sweet and savory hot pot at Isshin Honten in Kitayama, Kyoto is amazing! The unique hot pot is filled with ingredients like beef, bean sprouts, cabbage, leeks, etc. Adding rice makes it even more delicious! You can also order extras like hormone for an even tastier experience. Despite serving such delicious hot pot, the customer service from the staff is quite disappointing... It's a shame, but the hot pot is really delicious!

Arrived at the shop after walking from Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto. The shop has a strong presence and a nice atmosphere. Started off with a highball to quench my thirst. The appetizer was beef tendon, rich and perfect with drinks. Ordered the fresh tongue sashimi. For the main dish, had the Isshin hot pot, a special thin pot surrounded by pork and vegetables like bean sprouts, with dashi broth in the middle that you boil. The staff taught me how to eat it, so I started by cooking the amount I wanted in the middle and enjoying the pork first. It's like sukiyaki, and the way the bean sprouts surround it reminds me a bit of Genghis Khan. The sweet and savory rich broth might become addictive. Went from meat to vegetables, tofu, and finished with udon. Had a valuable experience while enjoying the hot pot. Thank you for the meal.

Located just a short walk from Ginkakuji-michi Station on the Kyoto City Bus, this restaurant has been a longstanding favorite for 40 years. There is no parking available. The unique dish you can enjoy here is the "Isshin Nabe." The exterior has a charming atmosphere, and once you step inside, it feels like a mix between an izakaya and a yakiniku restaurant. There are table seats, tatami seats, and small private rooms available. When I visited on a weekday evening, there was only one group of customers before me and one after me. I didn't make a reservation and was seated at a table. I ordered the Isshin Nabe Course for 3,300 yen including tax. It included a beef tendon stew appetizer, Isshin Nabe with tofu and mochi, Korean ramen (can be substituted with udon), and zousui. The Isshin Nabe is cooked in a flat pot with three types of vegetables and thinly sliced beef belly around the edges, which you dip into the sweet and savory broth in the center. It's similar to a chiri-tori nabe. The flat rice cakes, firm tofu, and instant noodles reminded me of similar dishes I had in Korea. The flavors were decent, with good quality beef, but the portion was a bit small. However, with the tofu, mochi, noodles, and zousui, I ended up feeling full. I especially enjoyed the zousui. Be careful not to overcook the dish, as it can become too salty. The proprietress came by occasionally to adjust the seasoning, which was much appreciated. I would like to visit again with my family.

In Kyoto, there is a well-known long-established restaurant that has been around for 48 years. Inside the restaurant, there are autographed photos of celebrities, showing its popularity. I visited the main branch of Isshin in Kitashirakawa to try the famous Isshin hot pot. The dish reminded me of Sukiyaki from Kagoshima or Ebisu in Tokyo, with a visually striking presentation. The seasoning is a slightly sweet and savory soup that is refreshing, and the dipping sauce is unexpectedly light, similar to a sauce for grilled meat, keeping the flavors interesting and making it hard to stop eating. It's no wonder this restaurant has been around for 48 years. *Although it looks similar, the taste is different from Sukiyaki.

I heard about an interesting dustpan pot at Isshin Honten, which is known for its "yakiniku" and teppanyaki. Their specialty is the Isshin pot. I ordered it right away! It's like a unique iron plate pot where vegetables are arranged around the edges and there is broth in the middle, simmering. (It's like monjayaki) You pour the vegetables into the middle, cook them, dip them in the sauce, and enjoy. The sauce is a light soy sauce-based flavor, not as strong as yakiniku sauce. The broth is similar to sukiyaki. Cooking the vegetables in the pot leaves them with a slightly crunchy texture, which I found delicious. Once the ingredients are gone, you can order more vegetables and hormone (small intestines). Personally, I prefer hormone with a bit more fat. It's a fresh and enjoyable dish that offers a change from traditional Kyoto cuisine!

Today I had a meal in Kyoto. After pondering where to go, my companion ordered something "spicy" and "Kyoto-like" for some reason, so we decided to go to Isshin Honten. The traditional exterior of the restaurant was comforting as we entered. The inside of the restaurant was calm with few customers. We ordered beer and the famous chiritonabe without hesitation. Before the hot pot arrived, we enjoyed some beef sashimi. When the hot pot arrived, a student part-time worker kindly explained the steps to us. We followed the instructions and enjoyed the delicious meal. The hot pot was amazing! For the finale, we had the classic zosui. It was rich and satisfying. The bill came out to be a little over 6,000 yen, which was a bit pricey. Overall, it was a great meal. Thank you.

One Heart Restaurant Review Located in Kitashirakawa, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, this restaurant was established in 1975. I saw it on TV recently and wanted to go. I was particularly interested in trying the unique dish called "One Heart Nabe". The restaurant is adorned with many celebrity signatures. The appetizer simmered dish was spicy and made me crave beer. Unfortunately, I had to drive that day so I had to pass on it. The One Heart Nabe was served in a handmade original pot with beef, fresh vegetables, and hormone. Once the ingredients in the pot started simmering in the deep center, it was time to eat. The ingredients around the pot were added gradually to the broth for individual servings, dipped in homemade sauce, and eaten quickly. It was sweet, tasty, and spicy, perfect for two people. We finished with "ojya" porridge, skillfully prepared by the restaurant staff. The rich flavor might become addictive, and I could easily have more. Finally got to try the long-awaited One Heart Nabe and it warmed me up. There are also branch stores in Higashiyama and Saiin. Thank you for the meal.

This is my second visit. I couldn't forget the amazing taste from my previous visit, so I came back. The shop seemed cleaner than before (or maybe it's just my imagination). I arrived earlier than the opening time and was wandering in front of the shop when they kindly invited me in. They said I could go ahead and place my order even though it was before opening time. Such great service! I ordered the Ishin Nabe that I had before, but I was also curious about the Hormone Nabe. I was hesitating between the two when they suggested mixing both, which turned out to be delicious. It's like a Chiritori Nabe where you cook ingredients like bulgogi in a bubbling pot. I can't really explain what makes it so delicious, but it's just great! I was full after eating the Ojya. Lastly, I think the ramen or udon would also be delicious. The only downside is that it's only accessible by car, so if someone can't drink, they might have to go alone. However, it's a restaurant that makes you want to go back multiple times! Highly recommended ☆

Once you come to this restaurant, you almost can't help but order the Ishin Nabe, despite it being advertised as a yakiniku place. It's a unique style where a square iron plate has a hollow center where sauce is poured, while meat and vegetables are cooked around the edges. You gradually mix the ingredients into the center to enjoy it like a hot pot. The sauce on the pot is similar to a light sukiyaki flavor. You can also add a dipping sauce and chopped jalapenos for spice. The ¥3000 course includes udon, mochi, and zosui as a carb-filled finish. You can order a la carte as well, with the option for meat and vegetable refills. It's possible that one serving of the pot alone may not be enough for some people. The main store seems to be connected to the family's living space, with children running around and voices heard, giving it a homey atmosphere. There are also tatami seating options, making it great for lively gatherings, but maybe not ideal for a quiet date or relaxed hangout with friends.

It's cold season, so I went to "Isshin" again to warm up with some hot pot dishes. The sign with "Isshin" written in big letters made it easy to find. We started with Yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and raw liver, then ordered the Isshin hot pot course for two. The pot was large and octagonal with a hollow center, filled with bean sprouts, cabbage, green onions, tofu, and pork around the edges. It looked like a lot, but as we cooked it in the dashi broth in the center, everything softened quickly and we finished it in no time. The secret to the flavor was the sweet and savory soy sauce-based dashi, which wasn't too strong, allowing the ingredients to release their own flavors and moisture for a light taste. The staff added tteok (Korean rice cake) and udon at the right times, making it easy to enjoy. Finally, we added rice, egg, chopped seaweed, and green onions for a delicious porridge to finish. Overall, it was tasty but with the various toppings and side dishes, the total cost felt a bit high.

The restaurant in Sapporo that I was taken to a few times for beef hot pot. I had always wanted to go since I heard the main branch is in Kyoto, and finally got the chance this time. The meat is thinly sliced but has a strong presence, and the price is around 4000 yen per person, about a third of the price in Sapporo. The hot pot, somewhat similar to Korean cuisine, is easy to eat, and the porridge is excellent. I heard they have been in business for 40 years, and I hope they continue to thrive for many more years to come!

I visited this restaurant for the first time in about 10 years, at the invitation of a friend who loves the hot pot here. The place still had photos of celebrities on the walls, and I remember being impressed by how popular it was despite its inconspicuous location. My friends were raving about the hot pot, and while I found the meat portions to be a bit lacking, I enjoyed the fun of picking ingredients and cooking them in the pot. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it wasn't disappointing either (just a matter of personal taste), and the porridge at the end was delicious. I think this is a great place for people who enjoy drinking. If you're in Kyoto, I recommend checking this place out. Eating this hot pot with close friends is really enjoyable.

Please note that I accidentally posted this at the wrong location, not at the Nishiiin branch but at the main branch. A unique hot pot restaurant called "Isshin" in Nishiiin. They also have a branch in Nishiiin. The omakase hot pot course (3000 yen) is served in a square pan with a handle in the center filled with broth surrounded by vegetables and meat, similar to monjayaki. You eat by dipping the meat and vegetables into the broth as you go, which is a unique way of enjoying hot pot. As they also serve yakiniku, the flavor is Korean-style. It's completely different from the usual kimchi hot pot. Those who like it, really like it. As others have mentioned, the default amount of meat is a bit lacking. You may need to add extras like horumon to balance it out with the vegetables. When you're tired of the standard hot pot, it might be worth going once a year. Also, there are coupons available that can significantly reduce the cost, so it's recommended to look for them online before going to save some money. Just a heads up.

I went to this restaurant because I heard that many celebrities also visit here. I tried the sweet flavored Ishinabe hot pot. When I first tasted it, I thought it was a bit too sweet, but looking back, I really want to eat it again! It has a taste that becomes addictive. It was my first time, so I ordered the course menu. After vegetables and meat, they brought out grilled mochi (there is also tteok), udon noodles, and porridge, three types of carbohydrates. When I saw the menu, I thought you could choose from three types of carbohydrates, but they all came together. When I finished eating the meat and vegetables, I initially thought the portion was small, but it turned out to be quite filling! The restaurant seemed to be on summer break, as a young boy (perhaps the owner's child?) was serving customers, while a girl was doing homework at a table in the corner. It had a cozy atmosphere. I really want to go back and eat there again.

Located a little north of Imadegawa on Shirakawa Street, if you head west down a small alley, you'll find "Isshin." The Korean dishes such as kimchi and namul are delicious, and the fresh raw fish and liver are also a must-try! We grilled the teppanyaki and pork belly, and finished with their specialty "Isshin hot pot." The special pot is filled with meat and vegetables around the edge, which you dip into the rich soup one by one. Despite being full, we couldn't resist ordering mochi and udon towards the end. The spicy flavors make you break a sweat, but it's oddly satisfying. Recently, I saw on TV that the celebrity Gakky (Aragaki) always visits here during Kyoto shoots. Maybe you'll even run into a celebrity here!

I visited after a long time. Overall, it feels a bit "down". It's disappointing... I used to enjoy it when I visited several times about ten years ago. Has my taste changed? I still like the concept of a restaurant where you can have both hot pot and yakiniku. Not just yakiniku, but things like zosui or udon to finish the hot pot are also charming. The dipping sauces are also well thought out and delicious. However, the main part, the quality of the meat and offal, was not great. And the amount of meat and offal in the hot pot was small! Especially considering the price. For example, Ishin hot pot for 2,000 yen or offal hot pot for 1,800 yen. This amount for this price? That's the issue. Of course, you can order additional items separately, but it still feels overpriced. The lady at the restaurant is kind, and as mentioned before, the sauces are tasty, and the base is not bad, so I hope for better in the future. By the way, having a parking lot is much appreciated (although it reduces the joy of drinking(^^;)).

In winter, I start to crave for "Isshin Nabe" hot pot. A slightly sweet hot pot goes well with a cold beer (but not so much with sake or Korean soju). The portion is just right, and you can enjoy adding various ingredients. Finishing with udon or porridge is also good, and you can even create your own original Isshin Nabe from the middle of the meal.

At that time, I didn't have many opportunities to go to Kyoto. I remembered an old friend and decided to have a meal together. I jokingly asked my friend to take me somewhere that I can only eat in Kyoto, and for some reason, he brought me here. He proudly said, "I don't think you've ever had this hot pot before." The hot pot, called "Isshin Nabe," arrived, and it was a shallow pot with handles on both sides, surrounded by vegetables such as cabbage and bean sprouts, and offal arranged in a donut shape. He explained that you eat it by gradually crushing the side walls while dipping it in a soy-based broth. The taste of vegetables and offal mixed with the broth made it perfect to enjoy with beer and rice. We ordered udon at the end, which was even better than post-sukiyaki udon. I was completely satisfied, and my friend was also pleased. However, I realized that this hot pot is almost the same as "Chiri-tori Nabe" in Osaka. It may be a good choice when you get tired of typical Kyoto cuisine. It's better to go with someone you know well, even if it's with a woman.
