First of all, I want to mention that we eat a lot, so don't worry about the pricing. I was searching for a restaurant in Maizuru on Wednesday and found that most places were busy, but then I came across this place called "Mizu no Yobiya" where you can choose your fish and have it cooked for you. It turned out to be a great decision! The staff were very friendly and the fish was incredibly delicious with a lot of flavor. It was much better than having fish cooked from a market. For 5 dishes, rice, and clam soup, the price of 6300 yen is really worth it!

On Monday at 1:00 PM, I went to "Sakanaterasu" in Maizuru. This is a seafood shop that serves fresh fish, which they cook on the spot for you to enjoy. Since it is close to Maizuru Port, there is a wide variety of fresh fish available. After much deliberation, I ordered salt-grilled mackerel, simmered black croaker, and sashimi of swordtip squid. I also got a serving of rice and clam soup. First, I tried the simmered black croaker. It was delicious, with a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors in the simmering sauce. The flesh was tender and had a nice bounce to it. Next, I tried the sashimi of swordtip squid. It was delicious, with a strong sweetness and a fresh crunch. The tentacles and head were lightly boiled. Sashimi is definitely the best way to enjoy squid. Lastly, I tried the salt-grilled mackerel. It was delicious, and I was surprised by the size of the fish for only 390 yen (excluding cooking fee). It was satisfying on its own. You can choose from grilling, simmering, or sashimi for the cooking method. It might be a good idea to ask the staff for recommendations. It's great to have this type of restaurant in Kyoto. If there were more of these in the city center, both locals and tourists would surely enjoy it. Thank you for the meal.

When moving from Seison-ji to Shofuku-ji, I stopped for lunch. I had been here once before and remembered the delicious Grouper I had eaten. However, this time, I couldn't find any Grouper on the menu. Oh well, I wouldn't eat it if it was expensive, but it's a shame. Nonetheless, Red Seabream, Golden Eye Snapper, and Tilefish are considered premium fish, so I understand the higher prices for those. However, most other fish seemed overpriced for their quality. The sizes were small and lacked the rich flavor. I believe this restaurant used to specialize in offering such fish at lower prices, but popularity can drive up prices. It's important to stay true to the original concept without compromising on quality. I was a bit disappointed. I decided to order the Rockfish, Blowfish Milt, and Scallop. The Scallop was quite expensive, but I love it, so I chose it. I ordered four pieces for 1800 yen. The butter-grilled Scallop was fragrant and sweet, a real delicacy. The tempura Blowfish Milt cost 1550 yen and was fluffy, but I wished it had a bit more seasoning. The Rockfish sashimi, while a bit pricey, was unique and delicious. I chose the largest piece for half the price at 1400 yen. However, there was an additional charge of 350 yen for the preparation, which was unexpected. The fish was tender and flavorful, a true delicacy that one might only find in a high-end restaurant in the city. I chose the Sweet Shrimp Head miso soup, but I was disappointed that it was lukewarm. It lacked depth in flavor and warmth, which was frustrating. I spent a total of 6000 yen for this meal during my travels. I understand that it was a luxurious meal, but I still expected to be fully satisfied. However, I left feeling somewhat unsatisfied. Despite that, some dishes were delicious. I will visit again with high expectations. Thank you.

I finally got to visit Maizuru Sakanaterras, which I had been interested in for a while. They offer the enjoyment of looking, choosing, and eating. I ended up coming to Maizuru after all. There is a restaurant here that I really wanted to visit, a place I can't forget, the fish paradise... (laughs) I came back to Maizuru Port Sakana Terrace! Well, I ate until I was full last time, but this time I ate a lot again! (laughs) Sashimi, grilled fish, simmered fish, shirako tempura, hamaguri, sazae, sweet shrimp miso soup, grilled large shrimp, tempura, etc... I got full with sazae, it was a luxurious dinner! I have nothing else to say! I was completely satisfied, my stomach is full! It was delicious without complaint... Thank you for the meal, it was delicious!

I asked my partner to come with me to eat fresh rock oysters and cockles, which are currently in season. We had a hard time choosing from the variety of fish available for cooking. While my partner wanted sea bream, I preferred horse mackerel. In the end, I bought half of a horse mackerel for sashimi and had the other half fried. The sashimi was delicious, but the fried fish was amazing! The seared golden eye was also great! The rock oysters were creamy and large, and the cockles were sweet and delicious. It may have been a luxurious lunch, but it was definitely worth coming all the way here to eat.

A new style fish market, restaurant, and takeout deli. It's trendy but has the lively atmosphere of a fish market, and they also offer a variety of takeout deli items!! You will be truly amazed by the prices^ ^ Today I thought I wouldn't be able to get seafood since the Toretore Center is closed, but when I googled, I found this nice shop! The interior is a stylish terrace. Fish before processing are displayed like in a fish market. Some are made into sashimi, and in the back, there are various fish deli items lined up. Customers dining in can point to their choice of deli items or unprocessed fish on a tray and request it to be cooked - boiled or grilled, for example. They mentioned that a small cooking fee is required. Order rice and miso soup and you'll have your own set meal ready! It would be even better if they wrote recommendations on cooking methods. Most people probably don't know the best way to eat it. I chose a variety of deli items and tried different kinds! By the way, despite the very low prices, the seafood is fresh! A pack of large bay scallops in stew costs around 500 yen, salmon is unusually large with great fat content for about 500 yen, premium Thai sashimi is also around 500 yen, and simmered whole rockfish is about 500 yen too... What's with these unbelievably low prices‼️ I bought a lot and it was around 2500 yen, so I was amazed! The stew was delicious, and the salmon was perfectly seasoned. It was so delicious with its thick cut! If I have the chance, I will definitely go back to buy more!

The half portions are quite large, so it's best to go with two or more people. Alternatively, you can choose cooked products. However, the highlight of this store is the fun of choosing fish from the display. You can try to finish it alone or take it home. They also have videos on YouTube, so it would be great if you could check them out.

The inside of the store is bright with a nice atmosphere, and the staff are energetic. You can choose your favorite fish to eat as is or have it cooked for you. The cooking fee is charged per fish, so the total cost is reasonable. The half-seared large bream I had was decent in taste, maybe my expectations were too high. The clams were very large and delicious. The parking lot is not very spacious, so we had to wait a bit on a Sunday afternoon. They have a wide variety of fish, so I plan to visit again.

I visited Maizuru on a trip and tried this place after not finding the fish I was looking for in Miyazu and Ine on the first day. They offer a system where you can choose from prepared sashimi, fish dishes, or select seafood from the display and have it cooked in your preferred style. I chose two types of sashimi, one side dish, and picked Kasago and Aji. The Aji was served as Tataki and the Kasago was simmered. In one word, delicious! Everything was fresh, no fishy smell, firm texture, and absolutely delicious. With rice and miso soup, it cost 5000 yen for three people, which is a much better value than fish set meals in the city!

Great lunch in Maizuru! Even the American with a big appetite was delighted! Cheap, fast, delicious - no complaints. We couldn't get such fresh sashimi and seared dishes in Yokosuka, but what we really wanted to eat was crab! It was cheap and delicious - everyone was very satisfied! Looking forward to the next business trip to Maizuru. It might become a competition to join next time... Can't wait for the next visit.

I finally got to visit a restaurant that I had been wanting to go to after watching a local travel show in the Kansai region called "Otona Tabi Aruki Tabi". At this restaurant, you pick your items and place them on a tray at the entrance, then pay at the register. For items that need to be cooked, they are brought to your table. The charm of this place is that you can have fresh whole fish cooked for you. The cooking fee ranges from 250 yen to 350 yen per fish. They also offer packed sashimi, simmered dishes, and grilled fish. During this season, they also have crab. The staff noticed it was my first time there and offered advice as I made my selections. I chose to have a half of a Kiawahata (Akou) fish as sashimi and the other half simmered, as well as a half of a Kinmedai fish seared as sashimi and the other half grilled. I enjoyed it with rice and miso soup, and self-service for tea and other drinks. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and delicious. The simmered Kiawahata was also tasty, and the seared Kinmedai had crispy skin. Even just half of a fish was quite filling. It was a great experience where you can choose items based on your budget. The casual atmosphere was also welcoming. I would like to try their takeout next time!

Today, the weather was nice so I visited a temple, Matsuo-ji. Then, I went to Maizuru to check out the Maritime Self-Defense Force's capabilities! Why not. On the way, I stopped by Sakana Terrace which I saw on TV. Even though it was before 11 am, there were a lot of people and we had to wait outside for a bit. Despite there being empty seats inside? We soon got in and understood why we had to wait. It was due to the ordering system and the layout of the restaurant. I saw crab and my heart started racing, wondering about the contents of my wallet. But this was lunch, I told myself, battling between good and evil. Evil usually wins, and then there's fish. They said it was cheap on TV, but I didn't think so. However, there were some unique items. Due to a certain reason, I know a lot about fish. I thought about ordering the golden eye, but the price made me reconsider. I spotted Akou next to Blue Grouper, and I decided on that! Next was the Swordfish, I've never eaten it before, it was delicious, you should try it too. Then I saw something in the back, and I also wanted to try the large prawn! And there goes my lunch budget. I also ordered rice and clam soup, which came to just under 10,000 yen. I sat down. The crab, I don't need it cooked, just bring it to me as is, I requested, so it appeared boiled in its natural form. Even though I didn't order any expensive dishes, the crab was delicious with meat inside. The evil now looked like an angel. Soon after, the large fried prawn arrived, a rapid-fire crustacean! Then came the Blue Grouper simmered and the Swordfish, it was a battle in the Sea of Japan. My wallet was empty, but my stomach was full and my heart was at peace. Was this a reward from the Kannon-sama of the Western countries or a blessing from Kobo Daishi? The waiter asked how it was, and I just gave him a thumbs up in silence. No words were needed. Thank you very much.

On October 30, 2022 (Sunday), I used a JR West Japan dice ticket to travel from Osaka to Maizuru. One of my destinations was Sakana Terrace, where I visited alone. I arrived at the store a little after 10 a.m., so the store was empty. I purchased half a body of kawahagi for sashimi and simmered, and 8 shrimp, 4 of which were served as sashimi and 4 as tempura. I felt that the freshness of the fish, the deliciousness of the dishes, and the cleanliness of the store were all of high quality. The price was as shown in the receipt photo, and the amount was more than enough for one person. It was a restaurant that fish lovers would love.

I visited this restaurant on my way back from kiss fishing in Miyazu. Despite the suspicious approach of a typhoon, the restaurant was crowded. Here, you can purchase packaged fish and they will cook it for you according to your instructions. As expected from a town with a fishing port, you can enjoy a variety of fresh seafood from different places where they are caught. The cost performance is also good, making it easy to stop by casually. If you are in the Miyazu area, be sure to check it out.

"Sakanaterasu" is a fish market right by the Japan Sea in Kyoto. You can choose fresh fish to take home or enjoy a selection of sliced fish for around 500 yen each. My wife was satisfied with the high-quality tuna block that we got. It seems like my wife, who loves strawberries, tuna, and all things red, might actually be a vampire? I, on the other hand, am not a fan of the red meat of real tuna. I wonder why? Maybe because I find the cheaper, "fake" tuna easier to eat. No matter where we go, the more my wife praises the tuna, the less I enjoy it. Perhaps it's because when I was a child, I often had Tekkamaki from a sushi place, which became my standard for tuna. I prefer salmon myself. The grilled silver salmon was delicious. The clam soup was full of flavor with a rich taste of the sea.

Sakanaterasu in Maizuru is a restaurant where you can choose your favorite fresh fish caught that day at the fishing port and have it cooked for you. I had a large fried shrimp, salt-grilled and tempura Aori squid, and sashimi of Tsuwas. You only need to pay for the cooking in addition to the price of the products, so it's quite a bargain! The freshness is excellent, making the dishes incredibly delicious. The shrimp tempura was plump, the salt-grilled and tempura squid had a great texture, and the Tsuwas was firm and fantastic. The portions were so generous that I left feeling completely satisfied. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again. It was incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Recommended by Mairebi-san, we visited this restaurant for lunch on a weekday as a couple for the first time. It took us about 2 and a half hours to get there from Kyoto city by JR Limited Express and on foot. We arrived at 10:35 AM with only one other customer already there. Customers who order for takeout use shopping baskets, while those who dine in use trays. They also offer small packs of sashimi, simmered dishes, and grilled items, but you can also purchase whole fresh seafood. If you choose to buy the whole seafood, you can have it prepared in your favorite way for an additional cost. This unique system is quite appealing. We wanted to try some seafood that we don't often encounter. They had a variety of seasonal seafood such as swordfish, cutlassfish, horse mackerel, black croaker, rockfish, sea bass, golden threadfin bream, blackthroat seaperch, snow crab, sardines, turban shells, scallops, red snapper, firefly squid, etc. We ordered the following dishes: Fugu sashimi and tempura, Ishimochi seared and simmered, Sea tiger salt-grilled, and Kawahagi sashimi and simmered. Unfortunately, they were not serving alcohol due to the ongoing Mambou period in Kyoto. However, the seafood dishes were all incredibly delicious and left us feeling ecstatic until the end. This time, I had a business trip to Maizuru City and visited "Maizuru Port Sakanaterrace" for lunch. When I entered the restaurant, there were fresh seafood lined up, and you can choose what you want to eat and have it cooked for you. I ordered Suzuki sashimi, grilled sea bream, rice, and clam miso soup. The sashimi was delicious with the freshness of the fish, especially the Suzuki was surprisingly tasty. The only downside was that the rice (330 yen) was a bit dry and not very good. I also thought the price of the rice was a bit high. They accept PayPay for payment, which was convenient. Every year, I go to Maizuru and Retore Center to eat rock oysters with the summer Seishun 18 ticket. This year, I found a different restaurant so I changed it up. It's about a 20-minute walk from Nishi-Maizuru Station, closer than Retore Center. It's called Sakana Terrace along Route 27. When you enter, you grab a tray and browse through the fresh fish, sushi, and pre-made side dishes. Sashimi and grilled dishes are ordered verbally. However, the space is quite narrow so it's better to place your backpack at your seat first. I ordered the following: Rock oysters for ¥800 without cooking fee, satisfying freshness and size. Kasago (scorpionfish) tempura for ¥320 (pre-made), small but a good side dish. Sazae (horned turban) sashimi for ¥190 with a cooking fee of ¥100, firm texture and boiled liver. Domestic eel shiroyaki (grilled with salt) for ¥2300 with a cooking fee of ¥350, good balance of fat and a whole eel at a reasonable price. Sapporo bottled beer (small) for ¥500 each, the food was good but the small bottle for ¥500 was a bit sad (laughs).

I took my favorite small dishes myself♪ There are various dishes such as simmered fish, grilled fish, sashimi, and non-fish dishes. I warm them up in the microwave after choosing them on a tray. The taste is really delicious. The restaurant has a glass window with a view outside, giving a sense of openness and cleanliness. It would be nice if they served warm dishes from the beginning. I visited the restaurant again on July 14, 2021. Unlike a year ago, there were many customers enjoying their meals. This time, I had shrimp mayonnaise, lemon-grilled saury, butter-grilled scallops, miso soup, and rice. The food is indeed delicious, but not necessarily cheap. I probably won't go there again. The flavors are rich and the rice goes down smoothly. I bought the scallops and had them cooked into butter-grilled scallops for 150 yen.

A friend recommended a restaurant on Instagram, and I just had to go. They serve seasonal seafood at a reasonable price. You can choose from a selection of sashimi and cooked dishes on display, or have fresh ingredients cooked to your liking on the spot. The sashimi packs come in small portions, so even women can enjoy a variety of types. Every ingredient was fresh and delicious. The interior of the restaurant is stylish and cozy. However, as I had seen in other reviews, the rice and miso soup were really disappointing. The rice was dry and the way it was scooped into the bowl was sloppy. I wish they could improve the miso soup as well. I still want to visit again, so I wanted to leave this review in hopes of improvement.
