I visited a traditional soba restaurant for the first time. In addition to the regular soba dipping sauce, they also serve raw egg and grated yam with the soba. Although not shown in the photo, the conger eel tempura was light and delicious. The portion of soba was a bit small. The yuba sashimi was also fresh and tasty.

Today was a lunch outing. There are many interesting lunch spots near Kyoto City Hall. I was in the mood for light soba noodles, so I decided to go to "Izushi-an". This restaurant offers Izushi soba from Hyogo, which is rare in Kyoto, and the fact that they make the noodles in-house adds to the appeal. I ordered the Small Katsu Donburi Soba for 1750 yen. The plate of "soba on a dish" was so photogenic that I couldn't resist taking a picture. First, dip the noodles in the broth, then enjoy them with condiments for a refreshing taste, and finally, mix in the raw egg for a rich flavor. Each dish offers a different experience. And of course, I couldn't resist ordering the Katsu Donburi. There's just something about Katsu Donburi at a soba restaurant that you have to try! I finished the meal with soba-yu (soba water). The Akiha Set for 1780 yen, which includes oyster fry and mixed rice, also looked tempting. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Ishi from Ishi offers direct delivery of Ishi soba seeds, a long-established store. This street is crowded during the day because the city hall is nearby. I was able to eat 5 plates of Ishi plate soba without any problem. The condiments such as green onions and wasabi enhance the taste of the soba. The grated yam is also delicious. In the evening, the store transforms into a place for drinking with a variety of dishes to accompany alcohol, creating a lively atmosphere.

I visited for lunch on Monday, December 12, 2022. The restaurant was almost full, but luckily there was a seat available at the end of the counter and I was seated there. I feel like the measures against COVID-19 have been getting lax, but maybe it's because there are many elderly staff members here who strictly check temperature and ask for disinfection. I ordered the set meal with soba, choosing the warm option. It took about 10 minutes to arrive, which is understandable considering how busy it was. The soba had a soft texture, probably because it was made with less binder in the new soba. The fried dashi tofu was delicious. I could tell that this is a place where people enjoy drinking alcohol.

I visited "Izushi-an" for the first time, a restaurant located in front of the city hall. Although it is known for serving Izushi soba, they also offer a variety of soba dishes. I ordered the "Sara Soba" for 900 yen, which came with 5 plates of soba along with condiments, grated yam, and egg. The soba had a slightly darker color compared to Izushi soba. It tasted lighter, allowing me to eat more. I first tried it plain, then added condiments for a few plates, followed by the egg. I really enjoyed this way of eating. I decided to add 5 more plates for an additional 600 yen, and after enjoying more egg, I added grated yam. This completed the Izushi soba experience. After enjoying 10 plates, I drank the soba broth. It's rare to find a place in Kyoto where you can enjoy Izushi soba, making this restaurant quite special.

I ordered three servings of dish soba for 740 yen and unexpectedly got full from the sukiyaki, so I decided to stop at three servings. Looking at my full stomach after eating, I probably could have managed five servings. Well, it's probably better to stop at this nice feeling. Yeah, I had a satisfying meal. Thank you very much.

Soba Restaurant No. 54, located on Teramachi Street near Oike, I wonder how many times I've passed by here since I was young. The restaurant is a bit hidden from Teramachi Street, but you can see the sign for their plate soba hanging outside. Despite being a fan of soba, it was my first time visiting on this day. I opted for warm soba since it was a cold day. Although it was delicious, I ended up regretting not trying their plate soba. I also indulged in some mixed rice after finishing my meal. It was a satisfying visit to a place that had caught my interest for a while.

I went for lunch on a regular day. The place is near Kyoto City Hall, and the subway is close by. When I entered the restaurant, they checked my temperature and provided hand sanitizer. I was seated at a table and given a menu. Since they serve Izushi soba, I was trying to figure out which option would be the most cost-effective. I learned that for the weekday lunch special, ordering a large serving on a sieve is the best deal. By ordering a large serving on a sieve, you get about 7 plates worth of soba. The menu also provides instructions on how to enjoy the soba - whether to savor the soba alone, drink the dipping broth, dip and eat, or add green onions and wasabi, yam, egg for different flavors. It's a unique way to enjoy Izushi soba. I wanted to order three more servings of soba water at the end, but I resisted the temptation.

From Kyoto City Hall, heading north on Teramachi Street and turning left at the first corner, you will find a shop called Izushi Saraso Soba. I had known about it before but never had the chance to go in. When I peeked inside, there were no customers. Perfect social distancing. So I decided to enter. The portion of soba served in a small dish was not very filling, but I suppose that's the way Izushi soba is. You can also order additional servings. It's nice to enjoy it with a beer, but I wasn't in the mood to drink during the day. The dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette) was delicious. It's Hyogo soba enjoyed in Kyoto.

I visited Izushi-an in Nijo-tera-machi. I have been coming here occasionally since my student days. The slightly coarse soba here, when eaten with the accompanying raw egg and grated yam, creates a smooth and satisfying texture, making it a complete dish. While it may be considered unconventional for soba enthusiasts, I personally love it. The tempura here varies in crispiness, but the dipping sauce is a bit mild. However, this can be complemented by dipping it in the raw egg and grated yam sauce. Overall, I think this restaurant in the center of Kyoto offers a high level of satisfaction in terms of taste and value.

A rare restaurant in Kyoto that serves Izushi-style plate noodles. They offer a menu starting from 3 plates of noodles and are open for continuous service from lunchtime, making it possible to enjoy drinking during the day. It might be a good idea to stop by when the hot summer colors start to fade.

May daily special for ¥800: Cold soba noodles with mini katsudon, simmered beans, and pickles. The soba dipping sauce and dashi soup are on the salty side. Lunchtime is non-smoking.

As I was strolling around until the meeting time, I saw a sign for Izushi soba. I couldn't resist going in, and it turned out to be a great decision. It was getting a little chilly, so I had some warm soba, and it was delicious. It had been a while since I had such tasty soba and broth. They also offer drinks and have various payment methods. I'm definitely going to come back again.

This is a good place to eat delicious soba at a low price. However, it is only available for lunch on weekdays. You can get a double portion for under 1,000 yen on weekdays. If you want to eat a satisfying amount on other days, it will cost over 1,500 yen. I think it was about 120 yen to add an extra plate. The downside is that there is no parking lot, so you have to park at a relatively expensive nearby place for 300 yen for 20 minutes. The soba itself is delicious. The tempura and dashimaki are also tasty.
