I felt like eating soba noodles, so I had the Shin Soba at "Wakakouan" after a long time. The aroma of the broth was excellent. The herring was cooked lightly, not overpowering the taste of the broth. I would like to try the limited edition Wakabayashi Soba with new tea next year. Please continue your good work, dear owner.

I had tea soba. It had a great texture but lacked the aroma of tea. The dipping sauce was spicy and might not be appreciated by people from Kanto region. It was a bit disappointing.

Seven years ago today, I visited the traditional soba noodle restaurant "Wakakouan" in Uji City. It is located next to the Western-style restaurant Swan. Despite the heat, I tried the "Kamo Nanba" dish. I wonder if I should have ordered the cold soba noodles instead? I will definitely visit again in the future.

It was so hot that I was looking for something cold for lunch. I found a large lantern with "Udon/Soba" written on it, so I pushed aside the curtain to escape from the heat. The inside of the restaurant was small with table seating and a raised tatami area. I sat at a table and ordered the "Zaru Soba" for 650 yen. While waiting for the food to arrive, I looked around the restaurant. There were three locals occupying the raised tatami area and one person at a table. Enka music was playing in the background, which made me feel a bit uneasy. The food arrived about 2 minutes after ordering. The soba noodles were thick and topped with thickly cut seaweed, served in a bamboo basket. Since there was no catch basin underneath, some noodles fell directly onto the table due to the strong drip back from the sauce. I dipped the noodles slightly in the sauce and tried them. It was around 1 pm when I visited, and this restaurant is a quick and convenient option when you're short on time.
