This time, I went on a curry tour in Kyoto. The place I visited was "Namaste Taj Mahal Alok," an Indian-Nepalese restaurant. It seems to be a chain restaurant. It is located near Shijo-Karasuma in the bustling area of Kyoto. I decided to stop by while exploring the neighborhood. The restaurant is on the 4th floor of a building, so I took the elevator up. Inside, the space was unexpectedly spacious and luxurious! However, the menu was typical, and the staff, who seemed to be Nepalese, were warm and friendly, just like at a regular naan curry restaurant. As I was chatting with them, I found out that for an additional 200 yen, you can change the curry to your liking even with a set menu. So, I decided to change the simple "A dish" set (1,200 yen including tax) to a different curry. The contents were:
- Choice of curry changed to Vegetable Korma for an additional 200 yen
- Naan or Rice (with the option for an extra naan)
- Salad
- Drink
The total payment was 1,400 yen.
Food:
- Taste: The Indian-Nepalese cuisine was tasty and enjoyable, although not particularly unique.
- Vegetable Korma: A creamy curry with eggplant, broccoli, mixed vegetables, and a milky texture. It was very mild and easy to eat, complementing the naan well.
- Plain Naan: Soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet, a typical naan that goes well with the curry.
- Salad: A standard orange dressing mixed with mayonnaise, which may please mayonnaise lovers.
Service:
- The menu mainly focuses on Indian cuisine, with Nepalese dishes as a secondary option. It's better suited for those looking for naan and curry. The staff were friendly and left a good impression.
Cost Performance:
- For a dinner set, 1,200 yen is reasonable. There's also a 10% discount available with a flyer, making it even more cost-effective.
Overall:
- The restaurant offers easy-to-eat dishes with a friendly Nepalese staff, providing a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience without any pretentiousness.
