Today's lunch was at "Cafeteria Noka" in Minami Ward, Kyoto City, located west of the Kujyo Bus Station. It's a cafe with a historic tiled exterior and retro food samples. The place was packed with office workers. They offer a variety of set meals, including a popular Indian curry. I decided to try the "Katsu Toji Set Meal" for 850 yen. The atmosphere is nostalgic with cloth hand towels and ashtrays. The restaurant has been around since 1967 and is known for its beloved mother figure. The Katsu Toji was delicious, served in a hot pot with flavorful broth-soaked cutlet. The miso soup was light with fish cake slices. After finishing the meal, the motherly figure brought me a complimentary iced coffee. When I paid, she handed me the change in a unique way, making sure I didn't drop it. Truly a place cherished by many.

I visited for lunch and it was crowded with customers coming in one after another around noon on a weekday. It was the day of the WBC finals and the cafe owner talked a lot about it. I had the pork ginger set meal for 800 yen, which came with ice coffee after the meal. It was originally slightly sweet, but the owner said she grinds the beans herself. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

I entered this restaurant with the intention of having lunch on a regular day, a long-established coffee shop called "Noka" located in a building facing Kujo Street in Minami Ward, Kyoto City. Inside, the retro atmosphere was just as expected, making me feel nostalgic for those of the Showa era. The shop has been in business for over 50 years since its establishment in 1967, and the sign that has been revolving since its founding serves as a landmark for Noka. The friendly mama warmly welcomed us. She is 89 years old, born in 1932, and still actively engaging with customers. I ordered the tonkatsu set, while my wife ordered the hamburger set. The set includes rice, salad, pickles, miso soup, and the main dish. There is also a raw egg provided, which can be used for tamago kake gohan. The tonkatsu was crispy and delicious, with a homey and stable flavor. The hamburger was tender and came with a sunny-side-up egg, making it very tasty. The portions are generous, making it particularly popular with male customers! After the meal, mama kindly served us coffee. Although it started as a pure coffee shop, it now feels more like a set meal restaurant. I hope this heartwarming and nostalgic coffee shop will remain for a long time.

I sometimes visit this Showa-era coffee shop for lunch. The main attraction is the energetic Mama, who is well over 80 but full of life and always ready to chat. The lunch menu offers a variety of options such as curry, cutlets, grilled meat, bento boxes, and more. The omurice is a bit small, so I recommend ordering the "large" size. The prices are probably the same. Coffee is included. The food tastes average. The salad that comes with the set meal is quite generous. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch with a retro vibe. They also have karaoke discs and lighting equipment available.
